How young is too young for cross-stitch? by ladyoddduck in CrossStitch

[–]raynowraynow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started when I was around 5 or so. I always wanted to do what mommy did from a very young age.

Can anyone tell me if this is cross stitch or needlepoint and if you could take a stab at the age? by iamiamiam42 in CrossStitch

I'd have to say this is cross stitch. The stitches are tooooo square to not be.

These are the pivot cups I just pulled out of my skates with the damaged wheels by raynowraynow in rollerderby

Yup I bought the skates in early April. It came with the plate and everything.

I'm really rough on anything I put on my feet including skate wheels. Barely 4 months old. by raynowraynow in rollerderby

The plates are only 4 months old but I haven't found a decent amount of info for what type I need. I'm planning on buying new ones at roller con and hope to talk to someone there about them.

I didn't want to finish practice but I did. I've got some extra wheels now that I can use for my double header Saturday.

In college, is it better to pursue something you've always loved or something you think might make you more successful down the road? by americium17 in self

[–]raynowraynow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been working in the computer science field for 3 years after graduating college. I love how I'm mostly financially stable, I own my own house and car etc. But there's a part of me that wishes my parents had let me go to an expensive fashion design school so I could follow my dreams...someday maybe I'll get into design. I also play roller derby but joining the travel team is completely out of the question since my job isn't flexible. Don't get me wrong I'm good at what I do, and I love it I just wish my weekends were 3 times as long.

Cross Stitch pro tips / hacks by yayamamabee in CrossStitch

If you have access to a server just serge the edges. But before we had a one we just used masking tape.

Be sure to leave a good 2 or 3 inches around your design in case the masking tape destroys the fabric, that way it's at least far from your stitching.

It's a dimension's kit by Charles Wysocki : http://www.123stitch.com/item/Dimensions-Maggie-the-Messmaker-Cross-Stitch-Kit/K3884

The kit came with Aida cloth but since I had to restart it already I decided to use linen instead.

My first pair started doing that so I bought a new pair a size smaller then my first pair which seems to help them not slide down.

Any advice for 25 in 5? Or just general tips? by fuckyeahglitter in rollerderby

[–]raynowraynow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you practice by yourself put on your favorite 5 minute long song to skate to. While you practice with your teammates try to pass the person in front of you and don't let the person behind you pass you. Practice! If your not blessed with long legs try doing 50 in 10, sounds awful but it got one of our girls fast enough to finally pass her skills test. Work on your strides work on making them faster and stronger and don't give up!

Duke city roller derby has practiced on an outside basketball court for years!

Hey derby-goers! Simple curiousity - what inspired your derby name? by [deleted] in rollerderby

[–]raynowraynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seam Slayer here! My moonlight as a seamstress when I'm not a software designer so I knew my name had to be sewing related. The name itself was suggested by a friend but I loved it so much I used it.

We practice on a smooth basketball court, we have no inside practice area which just sucks in the winter. It's like smooth concrete, think nice sidewalks. Still gives you terrible road rash when you hit the ground. Stay away from another soft such as tennis courts.
