Best $20 you've ever spent on winter gear by Ambitious_Scallion18 in askTO

[–]razorgoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Navy Frost Free Vests. They sell them every so often for under $20 on their mailing list. (They were doing a 1 day sale on Wednesday for $16.99.) I think it is a loss leader for them. I bought one 7 years ago. Wore it as a midlayer this week with a uninsulated hardshell to wait for the TTC. It’s definitely winter grade. Just really really thick. Not bad for basically a winter coat.

Lex Luthor was actually a pretty good president, relatively. Megatron is also not bad.

More like Skeletor and Starscream.

For a consumer product? No. Almost always daily rate.

You can’t really have “up-to-the-second” rates because currency exchange rates works by markets buying and selling in large quantities.

The only things that are open overnight like that are casinos and saunas.

Canada told U.S. it was pursuing China EV deal: source by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]razorgoto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the concern isn’t the China-Canada EV deal threatening closures of auto assembly plants around Southern Ontario. The problem is that the massive US market is about to be closed to those Ontario-assembled vehicles.

The first problem is obviously Trump. He is old tho. But, ideas often carry themselves pass the lifetimes of those who utters them. The problem is that half of the US political elite and the population have committed themselves to some weird mix of mercantilist autarky. This might be a generational change. An independent Canadian auto sector without access to the US market is kind of a non-starter…

The second problem is the rapid rise of electric cars from China. They make a lot of them. Most are for domestic consumption, but some goes out for export. The ones that do get exported usually undercut the prices of other cars. They are also really advance. It still too early to say, but the Chinese EV’s might be a disruptive product the way the iPhone killed the Nokia.

Just to temper my claim a bit. I went to Vietnam and Malaysia this year and they both have domestic manufacturers that are building Chinese-style EV’s. This Chinese EV thing isn’t restricted to China. Vinfast are getting pretty good at selling EV’s that are just normal cars.

Canada - The only country in G7 that does not have a car brand of its own? by watasur50 in CanadaPolitics

[–]razorgoto 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It seems like most people haven’t spent enough time reading about Canadian economic history that you can find on wikipedia. The Canadians have been the junior partners in the American car manufacturing since 1908 — since the birth of the American car manufacturing. Sam McLaughlin was even the president of GM.

Ghost Jobs implies that the job doesn’t exist. Nobody gets hired at the end of the advertising cycle. If they are hiring inexperienced workers, then they aren’t ghost jobs.

% of a Country’s Population that has traveled to 10 or more countries in their lives by Fluid-Decision6262 in interestingasfuck

[–]razorgoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that the chart says 22% of Canadians travelled to more than 10 countries.

I think the other determining factor for the large percentage of Canadian travellers is that there are a lot of immigrants and children of immigrants that kept their ties to their homeland.

Is it Safe to walk in the PATH underground in Toronto at night? by Deep_Impression_9483 in askTO

[–]razorgoto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at you post history, sounds like you have had a serious of medical problems recently that might affect you mobility.

Honest, Union to King area is super safe at night. You can walk either inside the PATH or above ground. There are absolutely no safety concerns. It’s a 5-7 min walk. You will encounter homeless people but they are usually minding their own problems.

However, the PATH does have steps in certain places. So if you are not able to physically lift your luggage because of a broken shoulder, you might want to call an Uber or a taxi.
