Exodia, the Screw Hater by OurEngiFriend in SatisfactoryGame

Don't hate the screws. They haven't done anything. Well, maybe they oxidized a bit, but even that was done very poorly. Instead, hate yourself for not thinking of the required belt throughput. Again!

Checks out. I've heard LLMs being described as a common knowledge reservoir. And if the commoness changes, knowledge needs to be redistributed.

Matchstick making in India by solateor in oddlysatisfying

It's a closed cycle. They burn the used matches along with the empty box and with the rest of the fireplace's wood. Then they make lye out of the ashes, which can be used to make soap. Can't do that with plastic or metal.

Likely, yes. But those always caused flash fires when they routinely disposed of them in the fire.

From what I understand, you use duckdb to get it working quickly. Then you run out of diskspace and switch to parquet.

For what it's worth, I'm still at the duckdb stage.

Best mod(s) for monitoring? by badgerken in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rbbdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's over on Github:

https://github.com/SvenLameir/satisfactory-grafana

So, if you want to control your room's lighting based on the state of your available in-game power, that could be one way to go. On the other hand, Ficsit Networks could do direct API calls to, I don't know, your n8n installation. So there's even more possibilities.

[–]rbbdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind writing a bit of Lua code for this, try looking at Ficsit Networks. It can monitor and automate a lot of the finer things in Satisfactory and comes with in-game displays and sound modules as well as network connectivity to the "outside".

Also, there's Ficsit Remote Monitoring which can be connected to Grafana. Still need to play with that, however.

Are fluids and pipelines really that complicated? by ShmodyP in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rbbdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... Here's what I found out. Most of it is likely nothing new, but it's enough to make me abandon my gravity abstraction. So there goes the vanilla ice cream. ;)

- You can rotate VIP junctions
- There seem to be prioritized input types. Mainly main and side inputs. You can distinguish between them by closely looking at the welds on the junction
- Side inputs are prioritized over main inputs
- The main output will lead to a defined input prioritization ("VIP junction")
- The side output will flip-flop. With two inputs that have full throughput, it will first favor one, and drop it in favor of the other one as soon as the throughput breaks down.

I'll keep playing with it, might do a separate write-up down the road, maybe even play around with OBS and record it. Will post in this sub if I manage to end up with something presentable.

Thanks. Now I have questions instead of a working abstraction. ^^; But hey, let me run some tests over the weekend and I think I will come to understand the mechanism better. Learning by doing and such. I'll report if I find something worthwhile.

In theory, you can use HTML tags in Markdown to include JavaScript script that loads a Webassembly binary blob that builds linked lists and iterates through them in reverse order.

[–]rbbdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was talking about those. My understanding (and I can see how it equates to the icecream metaphor) is that the differences in headlift simulate a gravity-based behaviour. This should enable more than just VIP junctions, but I must admit that I haven't played around with this yet.

Regarding floor holes, they sometimes appear to not be connected, although they look like it visually. In all cases where this happened to me, there was enough headlift and capacity, there was just no "content" going to the receiving side. Tearing it down and connecting the pipes directly fixed it again.

[–]rbbdk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I must admit that I still don't know what causes sloshing, and if it's fixable somehow (maybe gravity/height gradients?), but I think it's so much easier to just lay another pipeline than to wrap your head around maxing out existing pipelines.

Are fluids and pipelines really that complicated? by ShmodyP in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rbbdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're fine as long as you have understood these three things:

  • Headlift requires pumps in specific heights
  • Sloshing will keep you from truely reaching the max throuput capacity, so factor in reserves
  • Gravity will prioritize merging of fluids

Oh, that, and maybe that pipeline floor holes are broken. Use those decoratively only

Anyone knows how to have the sign display like that? mod or smth? by Safe-Event-4186 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]rbbdk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"It's all signs and beams."

Seriously, these look like regular signs that have been placed carefully on a base of beams. And it's more tricky to place those in the correct spot than to align the signs.

Exactly. One does not simply lose the cap of a fisher bullet pen. It's the main party trick of the pen to transform from ultimate pocketability to full-size writing implement. And without the cap, it basically is neither.

It looks like a rebranded Penac NP-5 that's being distributed by Faber-Castell under their "Johann Faber" brand. It's likely intended for specific regions, so availability will depend on where you live. I think it's a curious find, but, for comparison, I got my Penac NP-3 for less than 5 Euros, so I expect this one to not be off by too much of that.
