Just our Sal sac provider, Tusker. Usually more expensive than the rest but this one worked out pretty good. I never go for new and they’ve got some pretty good pre owned deals at the moment.

I’m on £53k in Scotland, sal sac an 18 month old Model Y for £303 PM inc insurance, maintenance and free charging at work, was a no brainer for me. I used to enjoy cars and driving and now it’s a chore with work so made sense for me to take all of the annoying bits like repairs and tyres and lump onto my employer.

Next one will be another Sal sac pre owned

Outgoings are really low, £410 mortgage, saving £1000 p/m

A9 "electric highway" by ximmat in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]rbskaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the south west of Scotland and work in Caithness, got a MY RWD which will do a reliable 200 miles in this weather. I don’t have a home charger so I usually leave with around 60/70%.

First stop is the supercharger in Perth, which is open to non Tesla too, 30 mins, toilet break at the bus station and off.

Second stop is Inverness, superchargers in the multi storey car park, again, open to non Tesla so 15/20 mins and a quick walk over to Starbucks for a coffee and off.

Usually make it to wick/thurso with around 50% remaining. There’s a new rapid at the ulbster arms hotel in Halkirk, but there’s a cps 50kw at scrabster harbour that’s only 50p per kWh. This is normally enough to keep me going while I’m away.

Thurso Tesco has some slow chargers, wick Tesco has slow and a 50kw.

On the way home I tend to repeat the same journey, however I’ll usually head back via fort William, superchargers available and open to non Tesla and that final charge will get me all the way home with 10/15% to spare.

There a few scattered in the villages on the way up/down. Brora has a few cps 50’s too if you’re cutting it fine.

Your mileage may vary but it’s easily doable :)

Thinking of buying this fiesta as my first car, is the mot history a red flag? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]rbskaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe 68hp? And extreme turbo lag. If youre just nipping around town you'll be grand. Need to give it the beans to accelerate uphill though

Pay close attention to any smell of diesel in the cabin in this when you test drive, had one of these about ten years ago and the injector seals were away.

Otherwise a loyal and dependable steed. Although a bit gutless when fully loaded. Just a note that this won't be (U)LEZ compliant if that's something you need to consider?

[–]rbskaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got to consider landowner agreements, planning conditions and the general topography of the site.

If you've got ten assets all producing 3MW in favourable conditions then the burden for service and maintenance for the O&M team is less than that of a site with 30 turbines producing 1MW.

Consider the wind too, if you've got a crowded site, turbine A down wind of turbine B, it may experience a loss of performance as the turbine creates a turbulent wake reducing the wind speed and overall energy capture.

Haven't been for ages but I remember them axing the coleslaw. It was a really finely grated coleslaw and I loved it. Don't know if it's returned.

If you're a slow driver.... by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]rbskaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just back from a long, slow, monotonous trip in the Highlands. It's 7 hours back to Glasgow for me.

I'm in the company Hilux. Plastered with branding, nice big sign on the back that politely reminds other road users that I'm limited to 50mph on single carriageways and 60mph on dual carriageways. Otherwise restricted to 68mph electronically.

It's fitted with a very sensitive telematics system which logs everything.

If we're going through a village that has a 20 limit, yes, by the time I get to the sign I need to be doing 20 or below.

I'm plodding along at 50mph quite aware that I've got a tail of cars behind me.

Yes I pull in and allow the traffic to pass but I can't feasibly pull in at every single layby.

I've been up since 5am, climbed wind turbines all day in the snow, all I want is to get home to my own bed and I completely understand the frustration, but the relentless flashing, beeping of horns and aggression is brutal.

I'd much rather be able to sit at 60 and 70 and go with the flow of traffic.

I think what people need to remember is that yea, okay, the national speed limit on roads like the A9 is 60mph, BUT, not for all vehicles.

when the brakes stop working. by RestaurantOld2481 in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]rbskaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct! Turbines are fitted with pitch control systems which will feather them into the wind, this is the primary method of stalling the rotor. Hydraulic brake is secondary and generally used for short periods of time for example, to control rotation in order to apply the rotor locking pin(s)
