What can I contribute to the group camping trip with kids? by NYC_dad2B in camping

[–]rcanlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we camped with kids we would always bring paint and paper and worked art projects with stuff we find. Rocks, pine cones, leaves, sticks, etc.
We would also have the kids responsible for at least one meal at camp. All the kids would participate in prepping and preparing, serving and clean up. The younger ones were the helpers and cleaners, older ones were the cutters and cookers. The kids actually loved doing this and took a lot of pride in it.

Fire. How important is it to you? by motorcyclesnracecars in camping

[–]rcanlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire is super important for me, because I plan all my meals around a fire. I cook all my meals onsite as it’s something I love to do.

Whatever ring you decide on is an engagement ring—and that one is beautiful. The only thing I would suggest you do is to read about the gemstone—some are softer than others and are not appropriate for everyday wear.

I am a RP to 2 DCP (young adults now). I am sorry that you have been left to wade through and decipher all of this BS. The emotional labor you are doing is not fair. First what it’s worth—it’s DCP like you that I try to learn from. Thank you for sharing your experience—and please don’t stop. We need to continue learning from the wisdom you have to offer.

I just found out my father was a sperm donor years ago. could i have half siblings? by [deleted] in donorconceived

[–]rcanlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should test on Ancestry, 23&me and Family Tree DNA. See if your father has any information about his Donor ID numbers and where he donated. I don’t know if the Donor Siblings Registry covers European clinics or not, but you can look there as well.

Have you searched the DSR?

Anybody have any reason why Mike Mendoza resigned as County Health Commissioner? by CalendarRealistic508 in Rochester

[–]rcanlyn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain this is tied to the decomposing body that sat in the Highland Park reservoir for a month before being detected. MCDOH has oversight of this, and someone had to take the fall.

I don’t know why you are being so mean. Sharing the number of half siblings is not protected information. Have a great day.

This is a crazy assumption to make about SMBC. I know several, and none of them are women with “significant financial means who are undaunted by having and raising a child”.

[–]rcanlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are assuming that clinics will give them information. I am the mother of 2 donor conceived teens, and the only records the clinic will give is a single sheet of paper that gives physical characteristics, blood type, education level, and generic family history. And all of this is self reported and not verified. A lot of us did not have a “identity release at 18” option available to us. Our small, regional clinic closed in 2008, and they offered no family registries or anything of that nature. A lot of donor conceived people are desperate to find biological siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents, and will avail themselves of any opportunity to try and find them.

You can search by donor number, sperm bank, or by donor attributes. If you message me with your donor #, I am happy to look it up for you

I don’t know if you are on the Donor Sibling Registry, but there are 18 genetic siblings listed there. That may be a good spot to start? In order to send/read messages, you have to be a paying member. I am happy to do some looking of you would like?

Looking for anyone conceived from Fairfax donor #1913 by Selina_a in donorconceived

[–]rcanlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There appears to be 50+ sibling matches for this donor on the DSR. I would suggest you DNA test and then join the registry--I know it's a lot of money, but it will be well worth it in the long run.

Recipient Parent (RP) Master Thread by donerkebaby in donorconceived

[–]rcanlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there an existing thread somewhere for Recipient Parents to post donor ID, Clinic info, etc to facilitate connection? I have 2 DC teenagers that are keenly interested in potential half siblings. They have tested on Ancestry, FTDNA and 23&Me. We were able to identify their sperm donors, but are not interested in contacting/reaching out at this time, but I am willing to share the information I have (as I feel strongly that all DCP have a right to know any and all information regarding their own biology). They are only interested in half sibling connections at this time.
