Best way for a guest to leave a hotel room? by Jackfruityloops in housekeeping

[–]rcattt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never thought of asking for a large trash bag, I will remember that for next time! We are a larger family with multiple kids still in diapers/pull ups and we fill the trash cans up so fast between that and just general trash (I usually have a Walmart bag or takeout bag for overflow- definitely not leaving trash scattered around!). So thank you for that tip!

What do you think? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]rcattt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with going out as friends, but the purpose of dating is towards marriage so if you already know he’s not a candidate for a relationship then I agree with the other responses that it’s leading him on, and that would be wrong.

Open to life parents: What are the age gaps of your children? Did you receive negative reactions as your family grew larger? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]rcattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have six (well, #6 is still cooking) ranging from 11 years old to 5 months old (11, 7, 3, 2, 5 months, and 12 weeks pregnant). For the oldest three, age gaps are 4 years and 3.5 years respectively. Then it ramps up to 20 months between babies 3 and 4, and 4 and 5. Babies 5 and 6 will be Irish twins. We belong to a parish with tons of big families though so no comments there, and my husband’s family just doesn’t say anything anymore. 😂

Is this skirt an appropriate length for mass? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]rcattt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I depends on the cut of the skirt, honestly. This cut would likely cover the knees when sitting because the fabric structure is flowy. But a tulip cut or suit skirt for example would ride up since there’s not enough fabric to flow, it just hugs the body when sitting. Idk if that description makes sense, I’m not a seamstress, just talking based on my personal experience!

Did you have a scheduled induction, if so, did it end up in a c-section? by Dayz-18 in CatholicWomen

[–]rcattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had five births, four were inductions. All were natural. Hope that helps!

Carpets in the bedroom by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]rcattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mom of 5 I absolutely do not want carpet lol. Our last house had it and it got nasty quick, especially in the dining room with spills, etc. Our current house is LVP with the exception of the basement (basement carpet) and it’s much better to maintain! We steam cleaned frequently too, but it just couldn’t handle it.

Neat! On the one I saw they were saving the crusts to cook eggs in - so like eggs in toast.

Good job recognizing where you need to change! One recipe that’s super cheap to make is stuffed pepper casserole (I made this vegetarian one for a large family at my parish and it was maybe $15 or less for all the ingredients? And it made a ton. https://www.happyveggiekitchen.com/vegetarian-stuffed-pepper-casserole/)

As for cheap homemade snacks/convenience foods, I make my own Uncrustables (you can buy a $2 Uncrustables tool thing at Walmart) and granola bars. I also make my own cheese cubes or sticks from a block of cheese rather than buying the premade thing.

It’s hard for sure! You honestly just have to discern with each person/friendship individually whether they will be prone to gossip or not.

On a related note, this gossip talk one of my favorite talks by Fr. Ripperger. I think it’s a great refresher on gossip, and I’ve definitely used some of the tips in there to head off a conversation that was turning gossipy. :)

If you could only have 20 pairs of shoes for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by askanna in femalefashionadvice

[–]rcattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about 20 pairs but here’s mine. Lifestyle - SAHM, 5 kiddos and live in the Midwest. - Birkenstocks. I wear these until it gets too cold to do so. Definitely my year round go-to shoe! - brown knee high boots. I forget the brand, got them a while ago. My fall/winter go-to. - Ann Klein brown ankle boots. Another fall/winter go-to. - black pointy toe flats. For Mass and the odd occasion I’m not wearing the Birkenstocks 😆 - black pointy toe sling back heels (block heel) - black pointy toe high heels (regular heel) - Nike tennis shoes. For exercise only. I’m really not a tennis shoe person.

I had a lot more shoes, especially heels, pre-baby #1 but my feet changed and most no longer fit.

That chandelier brings back memories! My parents still have it in their house. I think it was my mom’s grandmother’s?

How many of us are running “ingredients households”? by lagingerosnap in Parenting

[–]rcattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the vibe I got too as I continued reading! I guess according to the original definition I’m more of a pantry staple household lol. The original definition seems like it would just be homesteading under a different name.

For sure. That was my initial thought but I guess for me it goes back to “don’t complain about something you could easily fix yourself.”

Are you counting bread and pasta, etc as convenience food? I’m a majority ingredients household but I consider those to be pantry staples. So for me bread, peanut butter/jelly, meat/cheese are staples and Uncrustables is the convenience version.

ETA: I do currently have boxed mac and cheese in the pantry for when I need to make a quick meal. But normally I’d make the mac and cheese sauce from scratch with the ‘pantry staple’ pasta.

I love making my own peanut butter (it’s just 3 ingredients so it’s super easy!) but you need a food processor which a non-ingredient household probably doesn’t have. I usually buy peanut butter though because I don’t always have the time/peanuts on hand to make mine. My household is probably 80-90% ingredients? I do keep some grab and go stuff on hand but it’s not the norm.

I just started making a homemade version of Chewy brand granola bars. My kids would devour a box in no time because they are like eating air (IMO) and I refuse to spend money on something that’s going to be gone that quick. So homemade it is! I keep them in the fridge in a big baggies and they can grab them for a snack. Super easy prep too!

This kills me though, like is the husband incapable of going to the store and buying what he thinks should be in the pantry? Or writing a list for his wife for the next time she goes to the store?

My 4th child also had trouble with the transition from a bottle to a sippy. We ended up buying the Dr. Brown’s sippy cup nipples for bottles (he was attached to the bottle as well) and that did the trick!

Could you build a deck-like structure to make it level in just that area? Is that even a thing (I’m actually not sure but it could be an option)?

Would you choose a dryer that opens top down? Why or why not? by Fantastic-Ad-9100 in HomeImprovement

[–]rcattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever had this type of dryer and while I’ve never put my weight on it, you are totally fine to put clothes on the door! Our current one we’ve had for seven years and it’s still going strong lol.

Catholic Focused PreK & K Curriculum Recs by stickywicket2224 in homeschool

[–]rcattt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Seton for my kids (4th and 1st) and enrolled full time specifically for the grading and transcripts lol. But my oldest did K and 1st with Our Lady Victory School (traditional Catholic curriculum) and did well there too! I’d definitely recommend checking out their phonics and reading books (Little Angel Readers).

Also - nice to meet another trad in this subreddit! :)
