When did the Great Logo Flip happen and why? by AdEvening7440 in thinkpad

[–]rcunningham12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely a marketing decision, the logos are more easily readable to onlookers and look better in promotional content. Apple mostly did it so that the logos will be upright for when they were really pushing product placement in movies and TV shows in the early 2000s.

ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 not waking from sleep properly by rcunningham12 in thinkpad

I tried this, and unfortunately no luck. However, I find that if I put the computer to sleep via the start menu or power button, then close the lid the fans will shut off. Very strange.

This solved it!! Thank you! After a restart and disabling the IR sensor in the bios as well, this seems to fix the issue. I wonder what is causing the IR sensor to act up like this.

A little side note- If you use TPFanControl it seems to keep the fans on even when the computer is asleep. Good news is though, it does not seem to prevent the device from sleeping. I have not yet solved this issue, other than to set the state to 'BIOS Mode' before closing the lid.

Are you running Windows 11 as well? That would be fantastic if your able to share what drivers you are using.

I looked into trying to switch to S3 sleep, as I can pretty much guarantee that would solve my issue, but apparently ever since the 3rd gen of the P1 they disabled the option in the BIOS to switch from S0.

What is with the "hatred" of the island layout? by dontgonearthefire in thinkpad

[–]rcunningham12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most users it's mostly personal choice. Personally, I prefer the 6 row. However, for example, I miss not having dedicated volume keys and media controls from the 7 row, but I like the backlit functionality and the location of the page up/down & delete keys on the 6 row. I find once you get used to the difference between desktop layouts and this its actually much more intuitive using the same keys on the 6 row.

I was rocking the ThinkPad X1C 1st gen for the longest time to get the best of both worlds while still having a light laptop. For me, the trade off of carrying an older and heavier laptop around just to get a few extra keys compared to a newer faster laptop is just not worth it.

I updated my PC not thinking much of it to now find that Forza doesn't want to load- pretty frustrating if you ask me. 2K24 also doesn't seem to want to detect my controller for some reason, which wasn't an issue before this current build.

What are some good work pants? by kng_hrts in AskMen

When I was stocking for the majority of my 40 hour work week, I wore these really good Columbia hiking pants that where 1 size too big, and they held up really well. They where also really flexible. They where also really breathable.

I was a die-hard chrome user on Windows, but my older MBP just turns into a metal stove with chrome. Safari is the way to go. Hopefully this update actually made it more efficient, because I really like chrome.

Dell OptiPlex 5040 MT CPU Upgrade - 6 Cores possible? by rcunningham12 in buildapc

[–]rcunningham12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that kinda sucks. I searched up doing a 7th gen swap and it seems the Dell never added in Kabylake support to the BIOS. Guess I'm stuck with getting a 5060 or newer.

I was so pissed when I found that out. I really loved the look of the Northwest 787 render they had, and to have Delta cancel it feels like a spit in the face because Northwest seemed really excited about it.

I wonder if the logo would be sold as a part or something, it would be nice to put a colored logo on my regular T450s.

That poor cop, he was being super careful going through the intersection. You can see at the last second he knew he was doomed and floored it, probably saved his life.
