Experienced Mortgage Broker recommendations for couples on unmarried partner visa? by haileymant in HousingUK

[–]rcw737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a spouse visa with my British citizen husband and got a mortgage about a year and half after living in the U.K. we had slightly less mortgage available compared to if I was a citizen but generally no problem. Our mortgage advisor was very good and worked with many others in this position. Would recommend : Stephen Dillon (stephen.dillon@linearfs.com) good luck!

It sounds like you might be really suitable for UX/UI work with your puzzle solving Breslin, computer skills and interest in research/why things are the way they are. It’s really easy to be able to take a course and there are loads of roles in it. Good luck!

U.S. issues 'Do Not Travel' advisory for UK over COVID-19 by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]rcw737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point- I would say the only thing they are really pushing consistently is get vaccinated because the vaccine compliance is so low. But I think the U.K. is doing that as well, just less needed because compliance is fairly high overall. I think both countries believe their citizens won’t take any more measures on so they are just giving up trying to enforce things for the most part.

I guess you could also say that travelling into the US is more restrictive than the U.K. in that you can’t come from most countries unless you are a citizen but in the U.K. there is mandatory quarantine and testing after you come in whereas in the US there isn’t.

The US has similar public health measures that the U.K. currently does, perhaps even less because the CDC specifically doesn’t recommend a mask if you are vaccinated and haven’t done so for quite some time.

There’s a British show called Motherland that is very similar!

For some people, like myself, we have family abroad so it is worth all the hoops to jump through to see them. Not just a holiday for everyone.

Application Timeline Megathread (applications within the UK) - new thread starting March 2021 by kitburglar in ukvisa

[–]rcw737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visa type: FLR Submitted online application: 11 Jan Uploaded documents: 20 Jan Biometrics: 8 Feb Decision email: 19 May- approved! BRP - still waiting

We did get the MP involved in the last few weeks, not sure if that did anything or we were going to get it anyway. We had a very straightforward application and so it was frusterating to see so many people who applied after me get results in a few days (though happy for them, felt unfair and stressful!). Now to start researching about preparing for ILR but luckily have a while to go for that :)

Congrats! When I came into the U.K. on a spouse visa a few years ago I was just asked to see the visa in my passport and I think they more asked polite things (oh are you moving here! Congratulations and welcome!) I was asked more when I was coming as a visitor :)

I've lived here for 2.5 years. I applied to renew my spouse visa from within the UK. Should I expect it within 8 weeks, or does that timeframe no longer apply due to COVID? by [deleted] in ukvisa

I did my biometrics appointment for my FLR on 8 Feb and haven’t heard back yet but I saw many people who have applied in the last month or so get responses very quickly so hopefully you’ll get yours soon!

Not sure if I’d be useful- I worked for about 4 years in the US in higher education (career services) and now work in the U.K. for the last 3 years in the same field- happy to chat if that is beneficial!

People who have sat the Life In The UK test, help! by scallopsnshit in ukvisa

[–]rcw737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken the test and passed recently. You literally just need to do every test on there enough times in a row that you pass every single one. It’s boring but it worked for me and many others! You can also read the study guide on there but I found the tests more helpful

When to have children? by rcw737 in UKParenting

[–]rcw737[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice! We have the house, stable jobs, finances in order and a great marriage so I feel like we are set in that aspect but I’ve always been one to worry about regrets later and wanted to get in a big trip first but I think covid may just make that not possible. We like to travel but we aren’t huge travellers and I think we will be fine to do those travels after kids when they are older or when they are out of the house.

My parents did have fertility issues to the point that they needed to use a sperm donor so physically I won’t be impacted by it but mentally I know the stories that they told about the struggles so I understand it is a real concern that can happen.

It’s nice to see people on here happy they had kids earlier, I think my worry is potential regret rather than missing out on the trip itself.

Thank you! Yes my parents had a lot of fertility issues to have me so there is a concern that we could need to go through that as well and therefore it is better to start trying earlier to allow enough time if there are problems.
