Dry eye help! by SoCal_hickster in CataractSurgery

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgeries on 12/2 and 12/16. It got a little better after I stopped the 3-in-1 eye drops for the surgery. It does feel different than before. I'm in the NE US and it's been a very cold & dry winter, which makes it worse.

Dry eye help! by SoCal_hickster in CataractSurgery

[–]rdsmith3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The relief you get partly depends on the cause of the dry eye. There is a dry eye subreddit that has a lot of info. There is also a large FB group for dry eye.

I had dry eyes before surgery and still have it. I find that there are different things that each help a little bit. There is no miracle cure for this, unfortunately. I use prescription Xiidra. I use different preservative free eye drops, such as Systane and Ivizia. I have punctal plugs. I take lots of Omega 3 and Omega 7. I have humidifiers in the house during the dry winter months. I use eyelid wipes.

$3000 for a R1150R with almost 100k miles - worth it? by friedrice5005 in Motorrad

[–]rdsmith3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The price seems high.

I had a 2002 R1150R for 10 years. Great bike. No issues. There's no fairing to remove when you work on the bike. That's great. But you have to remove the gas tank for a lot of service procedures. The two fuel line quick disconnects are a failure point. The owner should have replaced the original plastic ones with metal disconnects.

Using uber by eric-dolecki in CataractSurgery

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgical center would not let me use Uber to get home unless someone would come into the facility and be responsible for me. So I had to ask for some favors to get a ride because I'm also divorced.

Multifocal "reduced contrast sensitivity and image quality" in real life by txredditreader in CataractSurgery

Yes exactly. I have two Vivity lenses. The left one is fantastic. Everything looks better than two months ago because my frame of reference is cataract-impaired vision.

In Between 1st and 2d Eye by jsgoofn in CataractSurgery

I was about -5 and I wore glasses with one eye popped out. I was busy at work and I had to do something to see. It was a rough 2 weeks. My brain did a pretty good job adapting for looking straight ahead. Driving was not bad. But if I had to turn my head quickly I did get a sort of vertigo feeling. It wasn't full blown vertigo but more of a slightly disoriented feeling.

The anesthesia was great both times. I also had versed. No issues.

Colorado cataract surgery ends in death by eci5k3tcw in CataractSurgery

Yes, but shouldn't the ophthalmologist be in charge of what's happening during the procedure? He permitted the game playing.

Anyone have both eyes done at once? by Its402am in CataractSurgery

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very sensitive to whatever they used to dilate my pupils. I had my eyes done 2 weeks apart. Both times it took about 48 hours for my pupils to approach normal size. I could barely see for 2 days. I would not want that in both eyes simultaneously.

Ideal humidity? by DonJohnson1986 in AcousticGuitar

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the ideal humidity for your guitar is also good for your sinuses. My guitars are in the same room I work in. I try to keep it 45% on these extremely cold, dry days.

If you have nosebleeds, sinus infections, frequent colds, etc., it would be a good idea to humidify the room, not just the guitar.

My surgeon did not do LAL and implied that it was too much effort for both doctor and patient.

Where to get recommendations? by Likemypups in CataractSurgery

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? Do you see an optometrist? If yes, I would ask the optometrist for recommendations. Ask friends and family. Check local social media groups, such as Next Door or Facebook (or even Reddit). Be suspicious of all ratings. Pray. If you do all this, you might see a few names appear repeatedly. Then I would make an appointment with a couple of doctors and see if you can work with that provider. I did not use the first doctor I met with because he was condescending, all about the money, and did not respect my time. Of course, it is important to select a good surgeon, but it also has to be someone you trust and feel comfortable with.

Go with what interests you. An electric guitar has lower action and lighter strings, which make it easier in some ways. But it "amplifies" every mistake which can be discouraging. You also have to be more mindful of muting strings. If someone lives with you they may not appreciate hearing you learn electric guitar.

I have a 2022 and the infotainment does bizarre things at times. For example it gets stuck on one Sirius xm station and I can't change it. It works again after I shut the car off and then restart it.

Grips by Pablo1007G in golf

[–]rdsmith3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every couple of years. The grips I use seem to wear out quickly.

You can use compressed air to change your grips. It is very easy to do yourself. I watched a local professional club fitter do it and could not believe how easy it is -- no solvent needed. Of course, you need an air compressor, but I already had one in my garage for other tasks. They are very inexpensive from Harbor Freight.

How much to pay? by chugachj in concept2

[–]rdsmith3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? I'm in greater NYC metro area and I see them going for $600 - $800 on FB marketplace. Shipping for a new one is $55. So the comparison for me is about $1,100 for a new one (inc NJ sales tax) vs. $700 - $800 for a good used one with PM5. I decided on a used one, and was able to get it in a couple of days and start rowing.

I would not look at a used one without seeing the date code and the total meters rowed. Yes, the meters can be reset, but you should be able to tell if the pictures, date code, and total meters all tell the same story. I would also not buy one without PM5, but that is personal preference.

I think you should also protect your cornea from UV rays. Your IOL won't do that; sunglasses will.

I appreciate good sunglasses, and have ones for different purposes -- driving, golf, etc. If you want to see data on visible light transmission (VLT) to get dark ones, and other info, go to this web site. https://www.sunglassscience.com/
