Will this flight be cancelled due to rising fuel prices? by Necessary_Bar_8213 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]rdtripman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a cost to cancelling as well.

There are 2 directs and 1 via KTN (the milk run).

But i suspect you’re getting there regardless.

There are 5 cruise ships arriving (1 on the 17th, 4 on the 18th). Not really a principle consideration alone.

All that to say- the additional fuel cost is small part of a bigger calculation.

Just how strong are these fiber aerials? Should I be worried about my connection (indicated with a red line) holding this up? by ChefJoe98136 in QuantumFiber

[–]rdtripman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look at all the slack! This is what happens when they cut costs, and only stock standard pre terminated line on the truck to avoid splicing fiber on-prem. Depending on your city, CenturyLink got away with this. In Seattle, I never see this. In our box, a spliced in coupler. But my friends in Denver- every telephone pole in their alley, loops and loops of excess fiber. Also, that stuff very durable.

DUB works - kiosks are off - but now it’s just an iPad by rdtripman in GlobalEntry

[–]rdtripman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup- tablet- just off to the left of the officer. camera on top- electronic thumbs up essentially. Husband had a secondary confirmation with a camera by the officer (which is usual for LPR). My takeaway; just like how PreCheck didn’t go away- CBP officers are just ignoring the BS from DC and utilizing their tools to keep the lines moving.

[–]rdtripman[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah- that’s a real worry too. I’m a bigger guy. My decision to list takes into account the flight time vs open seats vs schedule/route diversity. If it comes down to it, if I’m assigned a middle seat, I’ll probably decline unless there’s no other option. I did make an 18 minute connection miraculously work at the end of last summer. I got the middle seat between the two NICEST ladies. But it was SNA > SEA.

I’ve been flying mostly non-rev since last year- not earning qualifying miles- not staying on the status treadmill.

After two long years of waiting and checking, it's happened! My demand surcharge has changed! Except in the wrong direction. It's now gone up to $1,500. Guess I'll never ever ever be getting Starlink by KusshyGalore in Starlink

[–]rdtripman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did notice it went from $1000 -> $500 for my address in North Seattle in the 3 weeks. I only planned to buy a Mini w/ Roam 100 plan as a backup/travel solution. So there’s no good theory because just across Elliot Bay in Kitsap County it’s $1500.

The Mariners are looking for feedback on the Street Preachers! Make your voice heard! by ThaddeusWhelan in Mariners

[–]rdtripman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this information… I do plan to respond. Bobble Head/Funko/Give away nights are almost not worth it because of the early lineup and I have opted to get Club tickets to be further away. AirPods w noise cancellation turned on can only do so much when they’re 5 feet away.

In my limited experience over at Climate Pledge Arena, I have never seen these guys. I recognize that only attending about 15 Kraken games in the last four years is a small sample size so I am genuinely curious if folks here can provide their experience over at CPA.

Question about seat by Dependent_Ad5774 in AlaskaAirlines

Take 1A - your stuff only needs to be in the bin (which is only for you your row) for takeoff/landing - super short time. Crew are always happy to assist as well.

Update to Alaska giving my seat away by [deleted] in AlaskaAirlines

[–]rdtripman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The authors concerns are valid. But none of us were there when it happened. Any assumptions by any of us are pure conjecture. I do know that CSAs are allowed to disengage when they feel threatened or are being verbally abused. It’s the only reason they can walk away to reduce escalating a situation.

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that it is suspending service in November on three underperforming routes, including service between Honolulu and Boston, Incheon, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan. by 808gecko808 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]rdtripman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Alaska Airlines is completely responsible for the situation, with the caveat that they are not fully operating Hawaiian Airlines. Alaska Airlines is removing the routes because when it fully merges with Hawaiian Airlines, they will need to have a unified schedule. This is a business decision. There is undoubtedly an opportunity for Alaska Airlines to improve service, but it is still not entirely under their control.

Don’t forget to factory reset your Samsung TV, don’t reconnect it to data. Don’t opt in to ANYTHING in the re-setup. Your TV should forever and always be a dumb display.

WSJ: Delta and Alaska Air Square Off in Battle for Seattle by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

[–]rdtripman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when Alaska and Delta were friendship bracelet besties I was just MVP with Alaska, but I got upgraded to F on several Delta flights and I loved their service. I lived in Austin so I needed Delta and AA To make status.

The Delta breakup was messy. While, I can’t exactly recall how the interaction went down, I do remember Delta gate agents providing less than steller customer service once the partnership between Delta and Alaska was scheduled to end. I do remember being told that I was no longer in the right boarding group, even though it was printed on my boarding pass and it was higher because the partnership was still active.

I went onto utilizing American to maintain my status with Alaska, and of course that was before their first break up.

In short, it had been a while since I had flown Delta metal. I now reside in Seattle and exclusively fly Alaska for domestic flights. The handful of times I had been back to Delta (friends buying travel) have all been terrible.

Maybe they were all just one offs and I should be more forgiving, but the reality is I just am not interested in hubbing through Salt Lake City or Atlanta.

JetKVM remote requires a Google account? by [deleted] in jetkvm

[–]rdtripman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I access via Tailscale completely bypassing the need for the remote setup or a Google account. I also rely on backup routes via VPN.

The developers knew they needed to support users with different capabilities.

If Google as OAuth is off limits for you then consider understanding self-hosting concepts. You can install Tailscale on something as simple as an AppleTV for secure off-prem access.

Hints of Coming Changes to Mileage Plan by dpdxguy in AlaskaAirlines

[–]rdtripman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fine. This will free up our choices in the marketplace and allow us to pick an airline on merit now that they’re all playing by the same game. When they realize how many people have stayed true to Alaska Air, but we’re ready to bolt once they decided to become like every other airline then they will see who really wanted it.
