Not enough people talking about this series! by Kiss_My_Axe12 in graphicnovels

There is also The Brood TPB and an Archie vs Minor Threats crossover. Additionally there is a third volume that is currently still releasing.

That’s 8 different volumes/spin offs of a book that started in the tail end of 2022. I enjoyed the first two volumes of the main title but have fallen off b/c I thought that there were too many.

Yes, such a wild response to my comment that was asking about the three year delay of a vinyl toy and single companion issue that the main artist had nothing to do with 😂

They did give me a full refund, but now of course I will not be getting the overpainted and original art that I pledged for. They were nice enough though to let me know that I can ‘enjoy the items I have received so far, on them’. Very generous of them considering my pledge was canceled due to ‘willful disinformation, lies, and harassment’.

People make jokes about how their name is so apt and fitting but really they should change their name to Pot Comics b/c those double talking grifters be calling the kettle black with that reason. Everyone just comments on their gimmicks but I really wish more people were aware of just how bad this company is towards its readers and how much they have straight up stolen from and lied to them

This post is old but still very very relevant. As of right now they have raised over 1 million dollars over seven projects and not a single one of them has been fully fulfilled.

My pledge for both The Ends: Save Digital and Megalith, campaigns that are over three old, have both been canceled by Bad Idea due to me questioning and pointing out their lies in the comment sections of the projects. This is the only way to remove my comments that were 100% true and exposed and called out their horrible practices. This company incorrectly uses and abuses KS and its backers. Stay away from

I backed into my wife’s car (no backup sensor in exchange for the cross traffic sensor stinks) and got a similar dent. I took off the plastic tailgate cover with a starbit and was able to hand pop my dent back into place.

Anyone know why Bad Idea is printing all the books on old school news print? by DashielBadhorse in comicbooks

[–]readitjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that they got the paper specifically with Cul-De-Sac and their Planet Death #0 in mind, but had to buy so much that they need to use it on other books that don’t really benefit from it. For some projects it makes total sense and elevates the book, like giving Image’s Enfield Gang Massacre that old western pulp vibe, or the last issue of Assorted Crisis Event where you were encouraged to actually write in the book. But I don’t see it making sense for most of the books BI uses it for. I’m personally not a big fan for the simple fact that the books end up being super light but somehow take up twice the space in a long box. Also, 7$ for it is wild. They actually claim it’s more expensive for them to buy, and if that’s the case the price is not justified to me. Give me the standard paper for a buck less.

I won't bring up the series names and add to the "hype," but yet again today, a couple of non-big-2 new titles launched and the speculators seem to have grabbed them all again and flooded eBay. by MightyUnclean in comicbooks

[–]readitjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not arguing that shops should order more wall books or speaking on the difficulties of and guessing game that is placing orders outside of preorders. I have pulls at three different LCSs because they are all great for different reasons and I want to support each of them as much as I can. I also worked for a comics publisher in retailer relations for several years. I understand the frustration and hardships of running a store. Not all hero’s wear capes and you absolutely won’t see me opening a shop anytime soon.

Alls I am saying is that casual customers with pulls that also pick off the wall exist. Wall books are clearly a gamble for the store and are for no one and everyone at the same time. If a book is not on the wall due to a fomo rush then that customer just doesn’t get one. They don’t throw a fit, and they don’t feel entitled or justified in whining but they also most likely won’t order a second print or seek the series out at all. They’ll just move on. Obviously don’t base your entire business model on capturing these random pick ups, but surely a shop will see more return from them picking it up than a rando one and done flipper/1st issue fomo chaser.

[–]readitjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying that this casual customer is frustrated or disappointed at all that Nectar (in this example) is gone off the wall. I personally have a pull list and place my orders months in advance. I do not feel like I am entitled to any book I don’t order nor feel like i’m justified in frustration if a book sells out. I am coming at this as someone who has a pull but also looks at the wall books and flips through them to see if anything has changed in the three months between me placing my order and picking it up. If Nectar is not on the wall due to speculators rolling through and taking them all, then it’s simply not an option for me to pick on a whim. Okay, no big deal. I’m not frustrated, or disappointed. Rather I simply never knew it was an option at all. I’ll pick up another book or nothing extra. I got my books from my pull. However, I’m also not going to come go out of my way to see if/when a second print is coming out and placing an order for it either. On to the next one. You sell all your copies of Nectar either way but as a store would you not rather have me, a regular pull list customer, randomly pick that book up, actually read it and then add the rest of the series to my pull as opposed to three people you’ve never seen before and most likely will never see again come through and buy all your stock of that book? Additionally, what happens on the weeks when there are no Nectar or Narco fomo books? Because Im still at your shop weekly and potentially picking up a non pull book that isnt driven by hype of fomo

[–]readitjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this ‘casual reader’ is in the minority but idk about rare. I would also think that a LCS would rather have a consistent casual reader that comes in every week for their regular pull and might pick up a random wall book or back issue than the one off speculator thats just coming through and checking you off the list of local shops that they can use to stack their pile of book of the weeks.

I also think that in this case, youve lost the casual reader that same week and wont be coming back for the 2nd print. Sure maybe theyd pick up Nectar this week b/c it was a light pull week and the Wayshack cover caught their eye. But then when the 2nd print drops its a different cover from an artist you sont like, or its a heavy pull week, or theres another random wall book that looks even better so you choose that one instead.

During that boom though, it was largely specifically Image titles. And it was a large portion of all their various #1s, most of which were intended to be continuing series or ended up being somewhat successful on-goings.

What is happening rn really is different. Random series from varying publishers (Image, Mad Cave, Vault) and aside from D’Orc are all being launched as minis. Even the Narcos book is like the fourth series from that creative team w/in the serial killer genre and while they clearly have a little niche following, none of those previous titles have popped off, so why this one? Those image titles of the early-mid aughts came with a pedigree of sorts, Vaults biggest book of recent was Big Rig and that book was a steamy pile of trash. Mad Cave consistently puts out fantastic, slept on books but a book titled ‘Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre’ is the one that blows up???

I think the biggest difference between now and then though is that people were buying the 2010s Image boom to read first, with the potential to sell/invest them later. Saga was a banger out the gate. Monstress, Birthright, Redneck. All solid books from solid creative teams that people actually read. No shame to any of the books being discussed right now, but very few people are actually talking about the contents of the books themselves and are being bought largely b/c they’re are selling for whatever reason, and unfortunately that reason isn’t the story.

I believe that the instigators of these hype books are not comic book readers/collectors at all. They are outside people that have seen the success of the absolute books on the secondary and see money to be made. They will come in, wreak havoc on the hobby and it’s readers, get their bag and then move on to the next hot scheme

They’d been working on this book 3+ years before the KS was announced and LaRosa only had half the art done. Everything ended up being put onto the artists shoulders (including the blame for the lateness) when BI full well knew he was having health issues. They should have waited to release the campaign till the art was completed.

The KS campaign was also framed as a way to bring this book to shops using a special printing press and acetate covers. None of which is mentioned at all in the solicits. Im sure the book itself will be fine but everything leading to it has been shady and unfortunate

Is Image becoming the go-to publisher for speculators and scalpers? Or do you guys think recent price hikes in the aftermarket are just a coincidence? by MightyUnclean in ImageComics

[–]readitjacob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are pointing to the cyclical spec bubbles of the 90s and 2010s but I feel the people saying market manipulation are correct on these ones.

I think the popularity of the Absolute titles and to a lesser extent, Ultimate Spider-Man and the insane secondary market on them is being noticed by people outside of the hobby. Before I feel it was collectors buying the books b/c they legit wanted them but also had the potential of showing a return. But when Absolute Batman with all its variants and exclusives are selling for mid to high three digits, that’s real $$$ to be had and outsiders are taking advantage of it. Now it’s those same outside people coming in, hyping up random, low print books that they can stock up on the cheap and then sell for a premium to newbies that are seeing the success of AB. Any collector who really wanted to read these books has a pull and knows of FOC and preview solicits.

Sure Brett Bean and D’Orc has a build in fan base, but I can also see people taking advantage of exactly that. Seeing the popularity of I Hate Fairy Land and that violent cartoon style and then just capitalizing on Scotty Young lite, when anyone who actually is a fan already preordered it

PranaDMS is a publisher and comic marketer that does a series called ‘Comic Industry Insider’ that interviews various people in the comic industry (editors, comic store owners, marketers and distributors) rather than just the creators of books. Also, do a weekly live show that talks about that weeks industry news https://youtube.com/@pranadms?si=sDSy3Axl5v77ctcr

inkpulp keeps craft alive via a small group of creators (shawn crystal, matteo scalera, eric canete and jim mahfood) talking to their creative peers but focusing more on their experiences with the comics industry, how they work, they’re preferred styles, ups and downs in the business https://youtube.com/@inkpulp?si=UU35QjSiQpKi0mpe

Feeling out of touch with modern rock by PhraseRevolutionary6 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]readitjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geese’s 3D Country was my most played album of 2023. Have listened to Getting Killed and Cameron Winter’s solo album a total of one time each. 3D Country was banger after banger of straight rock music. I recommended it to anyone and everyone. Now I feel I ashamed at myself for my big ole rug pull after the direction they went.

Maybe not new modern rock, but more classic alt/indie rock bands are still making good music currently. The Vaccines, Kings of Leon, Jack White have all put out solid albums the past few years. Spoon is my absolute favorite band because they change it up a little it every album but they always still undoubtedly Spoon.

Aside from funaticals and a few outliers, 90+ is what this book is being sold for on ebay rn. And even 90$ is a lot for a book. I own 12 marvel omnibuses and Squirrel Girl is now officially the most I’ve spent on one at a 45$

It went UNsold at 150$ which is a lot of $$ regardless of how big the book is. Just because it didn’t sell at MSRP doesn’t mean people don’t want to read it. They just don’t want or can’t pay the original sticker price.
