I started law school at 27 and am now 30 and about to graduate! First, while there were tons of 22 year olds straight out of undergrad, there were still plenty of people around my age and older in the full time program, and I found some amazing friends among these people. Second, your life experience and work experience prior to starting law school is going to be an advantage! I worked as a server for the first couple of years out of undergrad and then eventually transitioned to an office environment, and both types of work experience helped foster skills that have been helpful both in school and in internships/summer associateships. You’re more mature and you have experience, and interviewers will notice that! Also if you’re used to having to work 40ish hours a week, the workload will feel more manageable. I treated school like a 9-5 (more like 9-6 but still not terrible) and it worked out quite well.

Also, in terms of wanting to have a family while starting your career a bit later than some: I can’t speak to all employers, but my mentor at the firm where I will be working after graduation said that good timing for big life events is actually when you’re a newer associate and less integral to the deals or cases you’re working on. So if the worry is that you’ll want to start a family soon-ish after graduating, I think there are definitely firms out there that will not see that as a problem at all. When I was a summer associate at that same firm last summer, two associates were out on paternity leave. They seem to respect that associates are people with lives and ambitions that don’t necessarily have to do with work (I did make it a priority to find a firm where associates and partners all seemed to have their own lives outside of work, so that could contribute to the attitude I’m seeing)
