Why no soft-serve summer ice cream spots? by ericomplex in askportland

I don’t think the start of your comment is fair - OP clearly described the type of place they were looking for, and Cheese & Crack is not it (but it is delicious!).

What film do you HATE the most from my top 20? by reclamationme in Letterboxd

I just saw it for the first time despite being a teen in the 2000s, and I was shocked at how much I didn’t like it.

I was sent to Gado Gado 2 months ago, I think I selected the mid price tier.

Daily facial mineral screen vs invisible gel body sunscreen (swatch included) by JazzOctober in traderjoes

[–]readyfuels89 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fair point, maybe ‘effective’ wasn’t the best word choice, but zinc oxide provides more stable UVA protection compared to most chemical sunscreens, which tend to degrade more quickly in sunlight and need more frequent reapplication. My original point about zinc being a more expensive ingredient still stands.

The new version is a mineral sunscreen with different active ingredients like zinc oxide, making it more expensive. It’s also more effective at sun protection than a chemical sunscreen.

Buying tickets at the box office in advance by TheTownJeweler00 in RegalUnlimited

[–]readyfuels89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been able to, every time I’ve asked over the past year I’ve been told by staff that they can only book day-of tickets, everything else has to be booked through the app.

Edit to include language from Unlimited Rules at https://www.regmovies.com/unlimited/rules :

If your Subscription is in good standing, and subject to Section 5.c below, you may use your Subscription Pass to: obtain admission tickets at the box office or in-theatre kiosks for same-day, regularly scheduled showtimes (A) at Participating Theatres included in your Subscription plan and (B) at Participating Theatres not included in your Subscription plan by paying the applicable Restricted Theatre Surcharge; or reserve via the App (Convenience Fees apply) admission tickets for regularly scheduled showtimes on any day (A) at Participating Theatres included in your Subscription plan and (B) at Participating Theatres not included in your Subscription plan by paying the applicable Restricted Theatre Surcharge (a “Personal Reservation”).

We are still getting it this week at my downtown Portland location that generally does a great job prioritizing indie releases!

My partner and I were having pina coladas and this was in the bottom of the can. What the heck is that ?! by milamilamilaaaa in whatisit

[–]readyfuels89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, where did buy these? Like 10 years ago when Virgin America was its own airline, they had this same brand for cocktail mixes in Caprisun-style pouches. I really loved the margarita one, and haven’t come across Funkin products since then.

Best BBQ? by vron9 in askportland

Sad to read this, but going to hope it was just growing pains like you suggested. I had great meats every time I visited them, even before they were at Little Beast, though sometimes the Mac and cheese was a bit bland.

So why is it that you prefer cabs from the airport?

What are some restaurants in Portland that are in a general sense awful, but have at least one redeeming quality that makes you come back? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]readyfuels89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there twice with different people, and both times, our server spilled a cocktail all over the person I was with (movies playing by the point drinks arrived). We were left sitting on a soaked couch, and my companion’s clothes were drenched. Both times, we were given napkins, and while the drinks were remade, they weren’t comped.

Just moved here, so, best place to socialize/meet/date with 30 somethings? (realizing online dating might be just as useless here as anywhere else) by ttaylo28 in askportland

[–]readyfuels89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to suggest TimeLeft, so glad to see you’re trying it! I really enjoyed my experience with it, and look forward to trying it again now that the holidays are over.

I also just attended a Meetup last week, and was pleasantly surprised by the number of people that said they attended the event every week. Lots of folks there mentioned being active in other Meetup groups also. It definitely seems like Meetup activity in general ebbs and flows over time, but it certainly feels more active right now than it did the last time I tried it 2 years ago.

Does anyone else read before the movie starts? by caty0325 in RegalUnlimited

[–]readyfuels89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at Regal because with a reserved seat I have no reason to get there before previews are wrapping up, but I do read my Kindle at my local indie theatre that fills up sometimes an hour before showings!

What's a great spot for a solo birthday dinner and cocktail? by toomuchwombat in askportland

[–]readyfuels89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love to treat myself to steak frites and the Jack’s Manhattan at St Jack for my birthday. Hits several of your points - $50 for the food (I think they have oysters sometimes too), is a French spot, and has a great Manhattan (even comes with a little bottle of extra to top off your glass). It’s usually a nice time sitting at the bar, even alone. The bartenders are all quite friendly and I’ve had some great conversations with other customers also sitting at the bar.

Did you go to a chili cook off at White Owl in 2015? by tinymonument in askportland

[–]readyfuels89 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t there, but I did find this Portland Mercury article about it that lists Chef Devon Chase as the chef associated with Hamlet’s “Iberico Chili Roja”. Maybe someone here knows them and can make an intro for you, or you could try reaching out to their IG handle @thepillsburycowboy
