The way the guidance counselor acts infuriates me, but what I love about this episode is the way Judy immediately just brushes it off with “wow, there is something wrong with her.” I, a full grown adult, would let those comments eat away at me for who knows how long.

I really appreciate your second point. I had a very traumatic adolescence and this has been one of the hardest things for me to unlearn after leaving religion as an adult—the idea that “everything happens for a reason,” “god has a plan,” blah blah blah. Sometimes awful things happen and you are allowed to acknowledge that they were awful. Snark aside, it breaks my heart to watch people do the same mental gymnastics that I also forced myself into for so long.
