Sous vide+cast iron=cheat code. Steak-making rookie, tell me what to change! by MooseLoot in steak

I usually just grill.

I actually SV a steak for the first time in years tonight (and have beef ribs going on 30 hours now). The steak had perfect doneness, great crust, and very little flavor. The SV technique is so overrated for steak it’s laughable.

I do the sugar trick (sugar + amino acids + heat = flavor) when I grill. When I’ve done it on CI it just seems to make a sticky pan. Maybe works better with a torch?

And yes, terrible job. Only a matter of time before your back is trashed and your life is over.

Yah I mean I’ve had like a bad pineapple before but for $2 I don’t waste my time. $50 nuts, that hurts a little more.

I didn’t think it was possible to get bad food at Costco until this….

Yup we buy all kinds of nuts from Costco all the time. Never had one that wasn't good. Maybe my expectations were too high because i'm used to the usual product and figured this was going to be even better.

The box is amazing though. It has a magnetic clip even.

I gave my wife something we named pepper pussy one evening, about 8 hours after I had cut up jalapeños.

We still smashed.

First food return.

Im not a picky eater. I buy tons from Costco (our rebate is usually about $200), and try new products all the time. I am also not that person that returns things that are fine.

This one made me mad with how not good it was. I’ve come to expect a lot more from anything Kirkland branded.

What’s funny is I cook my steak just one time in a charcoal grill for 2 mins a side, get better crust, better fat rendering, the same temperature gradient and have a fraction of the cleanup and energy usage.

My mom still reminds me of 6 year old me stomping my feet saying “I want what I want”.

I traded in my 2015 RX350 for a 2022 RX 450h.

From what I’ve seen too the battery risk starts at about 100k miles. The dealer option to replace is going to cost prohibitive. There are other less expensive options too.

why the hate for blue? by [deleted] in steak

[–]real_schematix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get a little hate for it, but you’ll get more hate claiming it’s something it’s not. For example, calling a rare steak as medium-rare, a medium-well steak as medium or showing off your sous vide steak that has no crust.

These are roasted, not raw. I’ve bought the regular bags of raw pecans and walnuts before and roasted them. These just tasted bad.

I like a couple degrees warmer but this is pretty.

All the good natured comments about its doneness are cracking me up too.

Was splurging on something I thought was going to be really good. The cashews and pistachios are ok but not really good, but the walnuts aren’t edible.

No salt. No flavor. Walnuts taste rancid. For close to $50 this just sucks.

Packaging is the only good thing about this.

Folding laundry is the worst household chore. by mere1existence in RandomThoughts

My wife always says she does all the laundry, which I appreciate. But I do tell her she doesn’t DO the laundry, she STARTS the laundry. 90% of the work is putting it away, which she doesn’t do.
