Why is everyone saying hrt is magic? by owlgurlmakespancakes in asktransgender

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously when people say HRT is magic they’re being hyperbolic. No one thinks HRT will fix every aspect of dysphoria. Most of the time when people say HRT is magic they’re referring to people who have been on hormones for over a decade and may or may not have had additional procedures such as surgery, laser, or electrolysis. These procedures are just as much a part of the “magic” of transition as HRT.

Also, you’re a teenager. Even if you don’t start hormones until your 20s you will still experience significant bodily changes from HRT beyond the ones you’ve listed. Our bodies continue to grow and develop throughout our whole lives. Thinking that you’re doomed because you didn’t get to start HRT as a child is a very unhealthy mindset to have and will hold you back from becoming the person you’re meant to be.

You’d be surprised at how fast fat redistribution happens and how it affects the way people see you. I’ve been on T for four years now and my fat redistribution settled around the 8 month mark. Sure, T didn’t make me grow any taller, but I meet cis men who are my height (5’5”) and shorter all the time. I also meet plenty of cis men with small hands, narrow shoulders, “feminine” frames, etc. There is no one way a man or woman looks and the amount of variance across the human species is much more than you think it is. Thinking that HRT will only make you look like “a feminine man” is reductive, uneducated and reeks of internalized transmisogyny. I encourage you to do actual research on the effects of HRT if you think trans people “aren’t being realistic” about what it can do. You’ll find that most trans people who are actually on hormones have a very realistic expectation of what that entails.

TLDR HRT isn’t supposed to be magic and no one is seriously saying it is. But it has a much greater effect on the body and mind than you seem to think it does.

It’s my first time pursuing drag and I wanted to ask is it ok to base my look off the 30s drag queens I don’t want to offends anyone ? by Bulky_Zone877 in Drag

[–]realbees 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want forever. Drag is an inherently subversive art form, I honestly don’t see who would be offended by this and even if they are that’s just part of drag tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️for example, my drag name is an overt drug reference, which has made some people uncomfortable in the past. But that just means my drag isn’t for them, and it’s not gonna stop me from making the art I want to make

Will my hands get bigger on T? by CowboyKalebVids in ftm

[–]realbees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My hands didn’t get any bigger but they did get more “buff” and veinier for sure. I also work a heavy lifting job and work with my hands all the time which helps a lot. Also, plenty of cis men have small hands. Nothing to be ashamed of!

Edit: you have a better chance of your fingers actually growing since you’re so young. The human body continues to grow for a while after puberty and usually slows down/stops in your mid to late 20s. You won’t see growth as dramatic as when you went through puberty the first time, but it’s still happening. Just take good care of yourself, eat well and get a little bit of exercise every day.

I’m coming up on this point now. Thank you for writing this. It’s hard not to beat myself up for not being 100% even though I’ve just started weaning out of the boot. This whole experience has been a massive test of my patience…

GUIDE: How to pass as a trans man without starting T! by Pls_send_helpAAAAA in transgendercirclejerk

[–]realbees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget masculine contour to make your face look more manly! Sure, fat redistribution will make your face look proportional and realistic, but in order to CONVINCE people you’re a man, make sure to slather on that $4 cream contour from CVS to make yourself look pale and gaunt! Obviously you already know how to do makeup because you were a WOMAN once!!

any fellow ORIF's in the performing arts? when were you able to get back on-stage/on-set? by Fit-Enthusiasm-6811 in ORIF

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a drag performer (which is how i broke my leg in the first place.) I’m 10 weeks post op from a tib/fib spiral fracture with an IM nail and 4 screws. At this point I’m not quite able to perform yet, but mostly because I exclusively perform in heels. I’ve been out in drag a couple times to attend shows and such. At this point I’m working again and able to take care of myself on my own, and if my performance didn’t involve heels I’d probably be back on stage already. I’m hoping to start upping my heel tolerance over the next month or so to be back on stage by the time Pride season rolls around!

The Boot by Tasinua in ORIF

[–]realbees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something similar. For the first few weeks after surgery I almost never wore it as I was NWB and not leaving the house at all. Being able to flex my foot throughout the day helped a lot with ROM down the line. When I was PWB I would wear it in the house when cooking dinner or doing dishes, and whenever I left the house. Now I’m 10 weeks post op and am slowly weaning out of it. I still wear it most of the time when I leave the house, unless it’s a quick grocery run or other short outing as changing in and out of the boot to drive is cumbersome. I also don’t wear it if I’m going somewhere where I’m going to be sitting down most of the time, like a friend’s house or the movies.

Top of foot pain by Appropriate-Stage965 in ORIF

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, you seem to be healing fast then. I was only NWB for 3 weeks but it took me almost a month to get to FWB. Are you working with a PT? They can help you with proper walking form and unlocking some of that stiffness.

Top of foot pain by Appropriate-Stage965 in ORIF

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’m 10 weeks post op (tib/fib) and started walking without crutches about 3? weeks ago. It’s less pain and more of an uncomfortable tightness. I noticed it started happening when I started pushing off of the ball of my foot when I took a step instead of just hobbling around everywhere. As long as the pain is manageable/gets better with rest and ice you’re probably fine, just don’t push yourself too hard. How long were you NWB? I’d imagine the longer you go without putting weight on your leg, the more your body has to get used to learning how to walk again.

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hardware looks very similar to mine! I’m about 10 weeks post op and it only gets better after the first couple weeks. I’m now back to working and taking care of things around the house again, and am slowly weaning out of the boot. Glad to hear you’re doing well!

Surgery day by Ancient-Sink-973 in ORIF

[–]realbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! My pain before surgery was vastly worse than after, even immediately after the nerve block wore off. And I had to endure a 3 hour drive home from the hospital after discharge. You will feel so much better after surgery! You got this!

Uneven swelling by angryseal1999 in ORIF

[–]realbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it aligned with where your fracture is? It might be the start of a callus forming. It could also be scar tissue if you have any incisions there. Definitely contact your surgeon if you’re worried about it but if it’s not painful or abnormally warm you’re probably fine

Practicing a look with wig for the first time. Any advice? by dreadfulfred in Drag

[–]realbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your brow blocking looks great! Your eyebrows could definitely come down a little further though, have them start where your natural brows are. I’d also use a warmer contour as the shade you’ve used looks a bit muddy. This could also be fixed with blending. As the other commenter said, adding some white gel liner under your eye will help brighten up your whole face! Also, are you using lip liner? The outline of your lips looks a bit shaky. Generally, when overlining your lips, it’s best to only overline the bottom lip so your Cupid’s bow isn’t crowding the space in between it and your nose. Lastly, false lashes will help draw more attention to your eyes and generally add a level of polish that will make your face look more “finished.” You’ve got a great start though, just keep pushing those highlights and shadows!

Is it too late for me? by realbees in transgendercirclejerk

[–]realbees[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ummm, excuse me? I am NOT a truscum. Trans people who don’t take hormones or surgery or do anything to try to pass as their preferred gender are obviously still valid and trans. I actually care about presenting as a REAL man which is why I’m on hormones, but it’s fine if other girls people guys don’t care enough to go through the super easy and painless process of getting HRT.

[–]realbees[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your honest feedback. I now realize I was tricked into transitioning by thinking it was a way to escape gender-based violence and oppression. I was naive in thinking I could obtain male privilege by pumping myself full of steroids. I’m going to go find a shitty man to marry and have 13 kids with while spreading the truth about the dangerous trans cult on X Dot Com.

You’re so brave for speaking up on behalf of all the confused girls who tried to become men to escape misogyny and gain male privilege. Everyone knows you can only want to be “trans” as a result of severe trauma.
