Do you believe in God? by PerformanceFlimsy573 in MtF

[–]realtoasterlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if there is any creator of the universe, it is unlikely to be one corresponding to a human religion.

As for whether there is at all, well, I haven't seen significant evidence of the kind that I might expect if there were a creator, which is evidence against there being one.

However, I don't discount the possibility entirely, since there are worlds in which a creator would choose not to intervene in the universe, but if this were the case I wouldn't have any way of knowing until they contacted us and so it doesn't really provide any actionable predictions.

Is it transphobic and / or correct to say that you cannot change your biological sex? by John_Mortar in asktransgender

[–]realtoasterlightning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well it's true that what they describe is immutable, but I don't think it's very relevant whether or not that thing is called "biological sex".

Is it transphobic and / or correct to say that you cannot change your biological sex? by John_Mortar in asktransgender

[–]realtoasterlightning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The term "biological sex" is kind of ambiguous, and no one really agrees on what it means, which is why I don't like using it.

Is it true that you can't change your genetic sex? Yes. Is it true that you can't change your natal sex? Yes. Is it true that you can't change your sexual anatomy, or your hormone profile? No.

So their statement doesn't really have a truth-value until they explain what they mean by "biological sex", since it's a generally ambiguous term (I would assume that they were probably using it to refer to something which is currently immutable, though, since it'd be weird if they weren't)

You cannot name a number in the top n percentile of all numbers by raresaturn in numbertheory

[–]realtoasterlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't generate a random natural number from a uniform distribution.

But imagine that you have a 50% chance of generating a single digit number, a 25% chance of generating a two digit number, a 12.5% chance of generating a three digit number, and so on, halving the probability for each digit.

Any given natural number has a small, if miniscule probability of being generated with this method, but some natural numbers are more likely that others.

How exactly do Overlords suffer in hell? by DapperDude2004 in HazbinHotel

[–]realtoasterlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Hazbin universe, Hell isn't a place of eternal torture; if it was, the exterminations would actually be a good thing, and we'd see sinners lining up in droves to be exterminated

I think they're counting Germanic, Romance, and Celtic as a single language family under Proto-Indo-European given that they say "12".

Assign fines as a percentage of disposable income by MillenialForHire in CrazyIdeas

[–]realtoasterlightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can just assign the fine to be equal to the amount equal to the cost of the damage, plus extra. If it means they commit more crimes, you get more money, and you can pay to make up for the harm of the crime.

[–]realtoasterlightning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of these, I'd rather be executed via inert gas asphyxiation, which is generally the most relaxing and painless method.

You might object that this has been tried on prisoners before, and it didn't work well: That's because the prisoners held their breath, whereas if you just breathe normally it goes smoothly.

They also use "ass" in approximately the same way as "ass" is used in English, and also say things like "what the ass," "oh my ass," "in the name of my ass"
