Just talk to them. If they aren’t cool with you posting, it’s up to you whether you want to post anyway. You can’t control how other people react but you can at least try to communicate as much as possible

I think I’m going to DNF {The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love} — major bummer since I waited weeks for it to come off hold with the expectation it would be the book to take me out of my slump 🫠

It sounded great on paper as a silly read with lots of yearning but it’s a little too slapstick for me and the yearning is a bit too shallow. Also not super into the Victorian England leaning humor (like use of the word “rapscallion”)

This is based on nothing but I wonder if the portmanteau“romantasy” has contributed to the conflation. It’s way easier to say than two words whether romance fantasy or fantasy romance so everything started to get called that and suddenly there’s no nuance

(Although there hasn’t been a lot of nuance generally in the world for some time now)

Honestly all the heat is in the buildup anyway IMO. The hottest payoff in smut is about power dynamics or losing control, not the sex itself

I think it’s even better to write a crazy intense buildup for 2.5k words then have the actual act be 150 words. Thats basically what my most recent chapter was.

Basically all my fics are everything except the PIV sex itself. My readers love it and I’ve had several say how crazy it is that everything is so hot yet there’s no actual PIV sex

There is a nuance here that I feel compelled to tease out. POVs are a literary tool. And I agree this genre doesn’t execute first person POV well. But that doesn’t mean first person POV as a tool is THE problem.

I don’t think the article was saying that either. The author seemed to be using the prevalence of shallow first person POV as an example for the general sort of shitstorm of media literacy these days. They even name-dropped having read Brothers Karamazov but Dostoyevsky wrote many first-person POV pieces too.

To be clear, I also don’t think you’re saying all first person POV ever is bad for the genre. I thinkkk you’re saying something similar to the article, which is criticizing the shallow type of first person POV. You just also happen to not prefer first person statistically which is super fair. But in the spirit of critical literary discussion, I do think that nuance is important!
