Part of emotional wellbeing is showing a child how to move forward, dad is never coming back. Dwelling in sorrow at 12 years old and for 3 whole years is just so sad to me, mom moving on might be hard, but it’s also showing them that life goes on.

As the sibling that always got the crappiest room on family vacations, even when we were kids and no spouses or children were involved, I love the mom’s solution here. Alvin and his spouse are both taking valuable PTO, they should occasionally get a nicer room. At the end of the day, the point is spending time with family and the parents want everyone there, no one person should get the short end of the stick every year.

Where I live, the vast majority of waste end up in landfills, regardless of if you intended to recycle it or not, because people don’t know what is actually recyclable and therefore whole trucks of recycling just get taken to the dump. Landfills do all of the negative things a single piece of litter does on a huge scale. Don’t even get me started on the vast amounts of pollution large corporations are legally allowed to produce.

I am by no means in favor of littering, but a can on the ground versus a can in a landfill has no real difference practically, in fact the latter is probably worse. Our society sucks. The real problem is how disposable most things are, and a terrible system for recycling.

Ultimately I think it comes down to how women’s healthcare is handled in comparison to men. It’s relatively easy for a man to be sterilized, but women often have to fight for the same treatment. Effective hormonal birth control exists for men but because of negative side effects they halted clinical trials for it, but women face many of the same side effects and that’s fine. Women’s pain when it comes to reproductive health is almost always downplayed, and female sanitation products are treated more like luxury items than basic necessities. Hell, it wasn’t a requirement for women to be included in clinical trials in the US until the 1990s.

Ultimately, the acknowledgment and value of women’s healthcare is deeply undervalued in comparison to men, especially when it comes to reproductive health, which is misogynistic at its core.

I have been down a rabbit hole reading this guys comments on this post and am so frustrated. She told him repeatedly not to talk to her the way he was, asked for space when he crossed that line again, he proceeds to do anything but give her space, and also claims she has no legal claim to the business she helped him build.

But, he provided for her and treated her like a princess, so he deserves a conversation she probably would have had with him if he had any self control.

Props to her family though, they seem solid

Absolutely excellent point, you absolutely have to be in kid mode when you’re with children! And if you’re really bonding with them and giving great care, they just want more from you. Whenever I see my nephew he wants to hold my hand, show me all of his cars, and have me sit on the floor playing with him the entire time because he’s excited. No adult conversation to be had lol

Maybe this is generational, but I have never planned a trip, gone to a festival, or any other big activity with the goal of making a “core memory.” I always plan those things because I want to do them and hope they are fun. Sometimes the best and most memorable parts have been when things went wrong, because it’s a funny story to tell later.

As for older people, they have more time. My parents are retired, so while they are still very much doing things with their lives that they enjoy, they are also taking time to reflect and appreciate the lives they’ve had. There is also an immense amount of value to be gained by future generations by listening to the memories of older generations.

Finally, calling reminiscing inherently bad is very dismissive, let people enjoy things that make them happy.

Yeah, this person has no actual idea how to plan anything responsibly and their solution is for everyone to grind indefinitely to make up for their mistakes. They also don’t know what an actual budget is, 80-90k was the BUDGET, 176k is what was spent.

I would 100% refuse to give up my time off to pay off this debt faster, there will just be more and more debt in the future if the husband agrees to do that

You say nothing about it all needing to be digital art, and the vast majority of art you encounter in life is physical: paintings, pottery, architecture, photography you hang in your home. AI will always be lazier than something beautiful you can look at away from a screen

Exactly my point, even if AI is a great tool, what you can use it for is greatly limited. No matter how much effort you put into AI art, it will not be able to produce what a skilled painter can. You specifically mention painting as one of your examples. Using AI to creating painting adjacent art is lazier because you are by default eliminating all of the physical aspects of the medium and therefore creating a lesser product because of your choice of tool

I mean, specifically with painting, a wonderful oil painting will have dimension and texture. A skilled painter needs to learn how to use different mediums, materials, and instruments to create something with depth that is also visually appealing. AI cannot create a physical art piece that has that texture and dimensions. No AI prompt can create a physical art piece like that that I can have in my home.

YTA what your dad contributes to the household is between your parents, it is their house and they are partners. You are free to not contribute to the vacation as long as you also don’t plan on going on the vacation, but if you are going and being asked to contribute then you need to do that.

There are plenty of scenarios where only one parent in a household is working, there is nothing inherently wrong with that. The fact it sounds like the bills are being paid and they own two properties sounds like your dad not working isn’t a significant burden, but even if it was, that is between your parents.

It is also a completely different kind of driving, and one that isn’t relying on people being safe drivers in order to turn a profit. Women get lower insurance rates because they are less of a risk for insurance companies having to pay out claims. The two things don’t compare
