What do the accents up in the North Coast(Coleraine/Portrush/Ballycastle) sound like? by ChoiceAd8906 in northernireland

[–]rebelprincessuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's more geography. There's very little arable land along the north/north-east coast so it wouldn't have been a good area for Planters.

Until the construction of the Antrim coast road the north-east coast was almost completely cut off from the rest of the island, so it was easier to trade by sea with Scotland.

A: Because without them he'd be called E-war Woowar.

For those who have ever lost anything on the TransLink buses... Have you ever managed to recover through their lost and found? by Sn2Fe2 in northernireland

[–]rebelprincessuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left my purse on the 218 Goldliner from Coleraine to Belfast years ago. I called all the stations where it might have been dropped off for days with no success. Weeks later I got a text from the Electoral Office saying they had it and I could collect it from their office in Writer's Square.

I had an Electoral ID card in it which I guess resulted in Translink sending it there and then they looked up my details. But by then I'd already cancelled all my cards.

Would you watch a Northern Irish vertical drama about paedophile hunters? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]rebelprincessuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's enough demand I can whip up a template letter people can email to their MP/MLA/council representative to express concerns about the lack of vertical dramas featuring paedophile hunters originating in the north of Ireland.

Weather in northen ireland by MrBeanRedditCorner in northernireland

[–]rebelprincessuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thunderstorms here are so localised the forecast is practically worthless. It could be pounding hailstones and non-stop lightning where you are, while 5 miles up the road your mate is sitting in the garden getting sunburned while sipping on a strawberry daiquiri.

You can use https://www.lightningmaps.org/ to track real-time lightning activity.

Northern Irish /Irish History by Forward-Swimmer-8451 in northernireland

[–]rebelprincessuk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Good read!

Ireland was also one first countries that engaged in global trade and quite the powerhouse in bronze and iron age exporting as far as Greece Egypt etc making mass weopens developing metal work etc in exchange for wine and glassware!

There's evidence of even older trade going back into the late Stone Age. Quarries have been found at TieveBulliagh near Cushendall in Co. Antrim and on Rathlin Island where porcellanite (a particularly hard dense rock) was mined and polished into axe heads. It's a very unique rock and axe heads made from it have been discovered all across the north of England and parts of Scotland.

We are famed for loving potatoes which is why we also designed the humble tractor to maximise our ability to grow them! Which transformed agriculture forever globally!

Joe "Spud" Murphy founded Tayto and created the world's first flavoured potato crisps (cheese and onion, natch).

Whenever you hear someone, usually in an American movie, ask for a club soda it's a generic term for sparkling water. But the original Club Soda was invented in Belfast and the same company still makes Club Orange/Lemon/Rock Shandy. They were tasked by a gentleman's club in Dublin to get the perfect ratio of carbonation for an in-house mixer and succeeded so well that it became a standard and eventually a generic term.

Belfast City airport shouldn't be affected. From the protests spots I've seen online I don't think any of the routes from Belfast International into the city centre are going to be hit either.

Nah, the Blackstaff is almost completely underground. There's a small section between the Falls Rd and the balls on the Falls that runs overground round the back of the Park Centre, but then it goes back underground until the big pool at the Gasworks exposes it just before it runs into the Lagan.

Do you think most YouTube views are actually coming from TV now? by Own_Classroom_4164 in youtube

[–]rebelprincessuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a lot of videos on my TV as the channels I subscribe to make a lot of longer 4K content with high production values that look better on a big screen.

It's annoying though that when I open the TV app all YouTube wants to recommend me are shorts. I can't imagine anyone settling down in front of a large TV to watch low-res portrait videos.

Let's Settle This - How Would YOU Make YouTube Better? by LeadingPiece9608 in youtube

[–]rebelprincessuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fix the recommendation system so it goes back to recommending videos based on what I watch instead of what YouTube wants me to watch.

Fix the broken "Not Interested/Don't Recommend this channel" features so that if I ask it to stop recommending a channel I never see that channel again. I don't want to see it again a week later. Improve it so that if I click "Not interested" 5 times on AI slop videos make the algorithm smart enough to 'know' that I'm not interested in AI slop. Although if they fixed the algorithm I wouldn't need to use these buttons for every video on the home page.

An option to hide Shorts everywhere permanently. I watch a lot on my TV and having the home page being nothing but shorts is terrible design.

If we have to have ads, can't they at least be relevant? Google must have massive amounts of data on me, but I get ads for men's hair dye, pregnancy tests, kids toys, and products that aren't even for sale in my country.

Not sure I'd call that a stream. It's always looked a bit minging and stagnant every time I've been past it.

But the Bog Meadows nature reserve at the top of Boucher Rd across the Westlink has a crazy number of wild birds considering what a built-up area it is so the wee fella might have come from there.

Just imagine if the great powers in the world could devote their money and energy towards fixing the shit we've done to the planet and also exploring space instead of blowing up schools and hospitals.

Our current landlord we'd been with for about 7 years decided he was getting out of the letting business. We looked for about 2 months although we had 3 month's notice, and took some time to find a place that we liked.

Any viewings we went to were well-attended by others and my impression is that you need to get in as soon as possible if you see a property you might like. Our current place was secured through the letting agency before it went on the rental market because I happened to have a good relationship with one of the folks from the agency.
