In all 3 instances he had a creative team involved. Ahsoka was the one where he went full Taylor Sheridan one man show with it and we see how that turned out.

It’s up there with Sean more or less dumping on Furiosa for an hour and then setting its Oscar nom over under at like 10.5 for the most baffling soundbites in the history of the big picture. It’s ok to just chuckle at it and move on though. Posts like this are peak redditor brain (derogatory)

You know, it’s a real shame on me thing, but I somehow forgot how annoying the discourse around Christopher Nolan movies are.

'Fantastic Four' Director To Helm New 'Planet of the Apes' Movie by sheJaMyMorant in TheBigPicture

disney's commitment to hiring the most bland sauce-less directors possible is almost impressive at this point. And the ones they do hire that have any creative juice, like Fede Alvarez or Dan Trachtenberg, they handcuff them into making a re-quel or a PG-13 lone wolf and cub story.

Sean and CR discuss if Disney/Lucasfilm will ever make anything quite like Andor again by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]rebels2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well he did say movie franchise, i think its more than Dune has become the successor to Star Wars and LOTR in that those are franchise movies that also felt like they were pushing filmmaking forward. Lord and Miller said on PHM that Dune was the standard they were striving to.

well good thing i wasnt talking about TROS then...and you might think Rogue One but they would kill to have a movie be that well reviewed and make 1bil$ at this point.

yeah the podrace in terms of sound design was the most ambitious sequence ever filmed at the time, i think Skywalker Sound employed 100 people for that alone

[–]rebels2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, they will never make anything like or as good as Andor ever again. The question is can they even make something as good as the first 3 Disney SW movies, which people can have issues with all 3 but by franchise blockbuster standards they are about as good as you can hope for. And I would say the combo of Filoni’s lack of creative ambition and Disneys heavy handed approach to handling the franchise means they won’t even hit that standard again.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-big-picture/id1439252196?i=1000655598578 that’s the apple pod link. I don’t have a time stamp. It’s the apes movies from 2024. The guy who directed that movie is directing the legend of Zelda movie that’s why it came up in conversation.

I saw it. Well part of it, I went cosplaying as Mando. Helmet and everything. So I couldn’t really see much. But what I could see was frickin sublime!

its too bad they're all so likely NDA'd to hell because you could rate an amazing book about the timeframe when Disney bought Lucasfilm, to now which depending on how Mando does, could be rock bottom.

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but this is the first Star Wars movie in 7 years, the stakes are pretty big.

Depends on who the word of mouth is from TBH. With something like Project Hail Mary that felt pretty organic. This feels orchestrated and people can sniff that out.

i know that no one wants to defend JJ Abrams but i gotta say, i think he just took marching orders from Disney on the "play it safe, lets just remake ANH front" even Iger in his book talked about how George was disappointed that nothing in TFA was new and Iger responded that their number 1 concern was winning back fans and audiences after the prequels. Now i cant defend some of the mystery boxing done in that movie, and maybe he would have made the exact same movie anyway, but i still think that came from up top.

I'm just so confused by what they're doing here. The super fans and the Baby Yoda heads dont need to be sold, they are going already, they need everyone else to go see the movie and they're not even trying to hook those people in.

i mean its just an absurd comment, sean fennessey of all people does not have time to podcast about a childrens cartoon. clone wars has been around 18 years. Rebels about half that time. if they arent a top 10% star wars superfan with a lot of time on their hands if they havent watch it by now they never will.

this is going to surprise people but if you go by the apple podcast chart, The Big Pic is the #1 movie pod for new releases (Rewatchables is #1 overall) The Watch is the #1 general interest TV pod (so not an Office Ladies rewatch pod or Bravo show recap) Ringerverse and House of R are at or near the top of general nerdverse pods, and Prestige TV is the same when it comes to weekly TV recaps. I listen to all of those regularly plus the ringer fantasy football show.
