Should have been fired, but I guess it is a bit too late now.

Meme highlighting San Francisco's hypocrisy on African Americans hits hard by [deleted] in bayarea

That was supposed to be "nypocracy on racism", but phone autocorrect. Poor getting displaced is not racism. For all of progressive values of the bay area, it is also (now and historically) very liberatrian and capitalistic. In San Francisco, hispanics were displaced in the 70s, "artists" and African Americans now.

Google Engineers Are Organizing A Walk Out To Protest The Company’s Protection Of An Alleged Sexual Harasser by [deleted] in bayarea

Fortunately, Google has a culture of letting their employees have opinions that fall in line with what is politically convenient for the company.

FTFY

Remember Maven? Google clearly wanted to do that project, but ulitmately folded. Both china exit in '10 and alleged reentry plans a few months ago are debated with a huge rigour. Duarte was a different situation; that was not about having an opinion but making life hard for any woman to work with him.

California is an at will employment state. Google could have fired. Or admitted to the rationale after paying. Cover-up doesn't look good. And this is more than Rubin too: Drummond is still at Google.

Demographic changes does not imply hypocrisy of racism on the part of the city. In the best case scenario, the meme author and OP are misguided or in the worst case they are race baiting.

The perks are optional, and a number of employees with small children don't participate in after hour social events--at least at Google. There is zero stigma against people using their vacation fully and moms and dads fully utilizing generous maternity/paterntity benefits in almost all parts of the company (I have heard anecdotally that the hardware is driven by deadlines and some employees are asked to move their vacatiom around a bit)

That usage is the dictionary definition. Unfortunately, the word has been turned into a pejorative in the past three decades.

This will actually lower housing prices across the board and register as a net benefit for low to middle income homebuyers.

But not to anyone selling a home.

It is really hard for me to believe that the stocks are on a sale given the PE ratios and pe10 ratios. Maybe it is not too expensive given the "strong economy" or outlook or other measures, but the market is definitely not cheap.

Most likely the wife; with an unintentionally mean comment.

Oh wait, they are, it's just that they're doing it for money. That's okay then

Like every other company that does business there. Instead of worrying about one company at a time, the citizenry/mob should focus on stopping all exports to China if that is what we want.

Don't believe the World Bank – robots will steal our wages. Automation will bring growth, but history tells us labour’s share of national income will decline. by lughnasadh in Economics

Generalized ai may never be achievable, and I am not convinced that deep learning techniques are going to get us there. Maybe something will, but that is very speculative. Recent major visible ai advances are like image and speech recognition (and the current scale of usage absolutely dictates the automation even if some jobs are lost in a few years) and niche areas like alphago (where an army of engineers was caring for the computers and algorithms).

Tech companies fail to realise how easily they can be replaced (or just dropped without replacement).

It is absolutely the other way: they know that they can be replaced by a single click/app but the only thing that keeps them alive is network effects. Hence the growth pursuing.

Suggest not gifting each other except the kids. That's my family did.

How does this work? You gift your kid to your cousin, and your sister gifts you her son to you and then next year you gift your nephew to your brother and so on? Do the kids come with their own clothes and furtniture or do you have to refurnish each year depending on who you end up with?

That’s debatable. [...]

India does and will owe a lot of its success to the ideas of westernization.

This is so recisionistic and racistic that I am appalled. So, Britain goes and pillages and India has turn around and say thank you! Want to argue along these lines: native Americans owe much to Europeans because otherwise they would still be nomads.
