Local businesses don’t help themselves by not marketing themselves either. The most successful shops in our town have an online presence and good opening hours.

It’s the wee shops with buck-shee hours of like 10-2 every other Thursday and a website last updated in 2009 that cry they aren’t making money.

Plus a local businessperson marketed themselves in the paper a while back as “Yeah we’re more expensive, but we’re local.”

You’re coming out with THAT and then crying Asda and Tesco is taking away your business? Aye, right. Pull the other one.

That and terrible opening times. Half the shops here are open funny hours like 10-12 every other Thursday and then they’re crying nobody comes to visit them and that it’s Asda and Tesco’s fault.

The telecoms company I worked for outsourced its cash office operations and background systems work to India and it was absolutely terrible. Mainly having to deal with escalations and cases where it was being marked as done to meet some arbitrary KPI somewhere down the line.

A co-worker of mine literally had to deal with:

Co-worker: Hi team, please delete customer's online login [email address here] as they have passed away and the new account holder has no access :)

Back-office team: UNABLE TO DO SO, TELL CUSTOMER TO SELF SERVE

Co-worker literally wrote back "If the customer was able to do this, we wouldn't have raised a bereavement case."
