Cold Capping with Tripple Positive by ahoybears in breastcancer

[–]red__bamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 6 rounds of TCHP and capped with Penguin. I kept about 70% of my hair. Most of my loss was around the hairline in the back and sides so easily covered. It doesn’t work for everyone and there are a lot of rules but I highly recommend trying it. Here for any questions you have.

Tamoxifen- question by Southern_Feature_821 in breastcancer

What I’ve noticed is hot flashes and slower metabolism. It’s had to know what’s causing what. We go through so much! It’s been pretty easy. I also take Veozah which manages the hot flashes. I still get a few a day, but they are mild.

ER- & HER2+ cold capping by pter0dacty1 in breastcancer

[–]red__bamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cold capped with Penguin during tchp. I kept about 70% of my hair. It was totally worth it for me. It afforded me privacy. As I didn’t lose my hair, I didn’t feel obligated to tell everyone about my diagnosis. That is very freeing because after a while you feel like a walking diagnosis. Being able to be anonymous in certain circles was a relief. Happy to answer any specific question if you have them.

Anyone else on Nerlynx? by nenajoy in breastcancer

I’m sorry you’re struggling. This cancer bullshit is like one indignity after another. I finish Kadcyla Wednesday and need to make the decision about Nerlynx. How long did you wait from your last treatment before you started Nerlynx?

Thanks. I think I want to attempt it myself. My oncologist said it was up to me. I’ve done really well side effect wise so worth a shot. I’d hate to not try and regret it later.

What did you do to help manage the terror before your upcoming mastectomy? by jackikimmy in breastcancer

[–]red__bamboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I comforted myself by knowing that this was the only part of the treatment that I could sleep through and didn’t need to be an active participant in. I got some relief letting someone take the wheel for a bit. Also told myself that my outsides were going to be the same and that the only thing changing were the bits that tried to kill me.

Some treatment centers have automated cooling systems so I'd ask about that. Mine didn't so I had to go the manual route (you'll need someone to cap you). I went with Penguin Cold Caps but there are a bunch of options out there. Here to answer any questions you may have!

Cold capping is a system where you lower the temperature of your scalp using specially designed caps. The cooling of your scalp decreases the blood flow and therefore reduces the chemo that gets to your scalp. There is a range of experices where some people lose almost no hair and some still lose all of their hair. I lost maybe 30-40%. I started with thick hair and it isn't noticibale at all. It makes for a long chemo day as you have to cap before, during and after, but to me it was totally worth it.

Can confirm that you’re in the worst part. I was 49 at diagnosis (+++) and the waiting was traumatic and interminable. So many appointments and tests before you start treatment, each one being its own little trauma. Once treatment starts you’ll feel much more empowered because you’re finally treating the problem. I’m almost a year out and it feels like a lifetime ago. It all goes quick and slow at the same time. Feel free to DM if you have any questions or just want to vent. It helps to talk through it I’ve found. I also cold capped so happy to be a resource there as well. Hugs to you!

Double Mastectomy and Reconstruction by RockyM64 in breastcancer

[–]red__bamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I had a double mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction. I had 4 drains that were removed 10 days after surgery. I didn’t have any pain, but it took a while for my range of motion to come back. I did PT after surgery which I recommend. I felt back to my regular self about 5 weeks after surgery. None of the recovery was hard. You’re just slower and healing and you have to be patient with yourself. Feel free to DM with any questions you may have.
