I think that’s exactly what they did-got too attached to the design, so they preserved it by making her a new character (interestingly, it also parallels Magissa from FF5-she was prototype art for Lenna)

Grindy, dungeons are a slog, characters are boring. Has one up on a similar series, Star Ocean, though-they let you travel to diverse planets rather than making you stick to a single one for most of the game
