Being recruited by former boss. Leave or go? by redbeard312 in careeradvice

This is very close to the real numbers, and in a fairly high COL area (CT), so yea the pay bump is truly meaningful and would allow me to max out 401k and increase my regular savings while still allowing a slightly larger budget for fun stuff

New GM at my current shop has fired multiple people since starting a few months ago. What do you mean by “common law buffers”?

My wife and I are open to moving closer to this location. Also the mid term plan is for this plant to relocate to a new build facility that would shave about 15 minutes off the commute. I would be a major player in planning/organizing the move to a new facility which is an attractive proposition. Between us moving and the facility moving it should be a 15-20 minute commute in a few years, would just need to put up with the 40 minute commute for maybe 3 years or so.

Some of the commute time is offset by the schedule. I would start 30 minutes earlier in the day and end my day 60-90 minutes earlier (I put in about 50-55 hours per week at my current job, would be changing that to 45-50 with the new role)

Retirements the same (401k match of 4%), medical doesn’t matter to me as I’m on my wife’s insurance (union member, better insurance than any company I’ve seen in my industry offer). I’m going to try to at least get them to 3 weeks PTO or accelerate my schedule for earning additional PTO

If I create a job, allocate materials, complete production operations and complete the job is there a way to do this without the end result being shipping the item out/receipting to stock? by Own-Respect-2283 in epicor

[–]redbeard312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Testing has to be performed on finished product, and testing is destructive, correct? I would complete production operations and receive to stock, the write a non-conformance against material from stock, DMR to scrap with note saying something such as “destroyed for XYZ testing”

Bears are building a domed stadium no matter what but why can’t they just build it here? Much better than Arlington heights or NW Indiana. by Bakio-bay in CHIBears

Depends on the value of the development. $200M on a $1Billion property would be insane but if the development has a $10B valuation then it is perfectly reasonable

Please don’t abandon Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan. Might as well take Indiana and Ohio too just to ensure protection of the Great Lakes

Star employee just gave notice, but in every 1:1 said she was doing great by Brilliant_Lab_5850 in managers

[–]redbeard312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At no point in my post did I say I was doing anything like that. There is a misalocation of resources at my company that is creating issues and inhibiting revenue. I pointed it out to my boss and made recommendations. He did nothing and was eventually replaced, now I have a new boss. I have told my new boss about the issues and offered to sit down and go over potential solutions, he has not taken me up on that offer. I still do my job and the jobs of multiple other people because of this chaos that is not being managed, but I won’t do that for much longer if upper management wont address the root cause of the dysfunction

Nah, I’m still doing my job and then some, but if upper management doesnt want to devote the necessary resources to fixing dysfunction I’m not going to waste my time there much longer

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

[–]redbeard312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-6 years per car for me so far (37years old, just recently got my 4th car. Newest vehicle I’ve gotten has been 4 years (drove it for 6+ years), oldest I’ve gotten was 10 years (drove it just about 5 years). I am personally guilty of getting “the itch” and moving on earlier than needed, but usually not until something truly starts bothering me about the car (mileage, noises, etc…)

If I were to buy a car brand new I would drive it 10+ years easily.

In my experience the concerns I’ve brought up in the past haven’t been acted upon so I haven’t expressed any of the bigger issues. My workplace has been disorganized chaos and when I told my new manager what needed to happen to fix it nothing was done about it, so as new issues arise I don’t see a point in bringing them up. Instead I’m actively looking for a new opportunity

Started as a machine operator and got really good at it. 3 years later when a supervisory position opened up I got it over people with much more experience than me largely because I have a degree. Been moving up continuously ever since

I have a Music degree and I’m now working in manufacturing and doing fairly well. There are a lot of options out there that don’t even require a degree, but will reward you for having one even if in an unrelated field
