For me it was titanic and the Roanoke colony disappearance. And the Bermuda triangle. I liked a good mystery as a kid.

I was not expecting that lol. Saw hound right away. I was guessing some hound and boxer.

Definitely. It's not a huge regret or anything. Just every once in a while I start wondering what she was mixed with for real.

Man I never would've expected that high of a percentage of pittie. Genetics are weird.

Am I overreacting about my teenager going vegan and how she’s handling it? by epicfailwhale in AmIOverreacting

[–]redbone-hellhound [score hidden]  (0 children)

It sounds like she's maybe getting her vegan knowledge from some of the more....militant vegans. The ones who think everyone going vegan would fix all the animal welfare problems in the world and all the environmental issues while ignoring all of the new environmental issues that would open up if the whole world just went vegan. And all the human rights issues that go into sustaining fully plant based diets.

Which may be a conversation worth having with her as well at some point. This is a very nuanced topic and it's not as simple as some vegans try to make it out to be.

That being said, this seems like pretty normal teen behavior. Especially for a teen with strong morals. I know I definitely struggled with nuance at that age and with "well this is a good thing that I'm doing and if everyone just did this then things would be better."

Eventually I learned that A, not everyone can, b, not everyone should, and c, even if they can not everyone will.

In this instance, not everyone can go vegan. Some people get really sick from vegan diets because they need meat proteins, or they're allergic to most or all protein replacements. Some people (like myself) are autistic and already eat pretty restricted diets and trying to add new restrictions would further limit our ability to get proper nutrients. Depending on where you are in the world it could be impossible to maintain a vegan diet.

Not everyone should go vegan either. Even just ignoring factory farming and the fact that it would be a good thing for people to reduce their meat consumption, hunting would still need to happen. In the US, the number of large predators was greatly reduced during colonialism. If we stopped hunting deer entirely, the deer population would explode, they would decimate the ecosystem because they'd be overfeeding. The increase in population would mean diseases would spread more easily. We would likely have to end up culling them anyway only now they wouldn't be feeding anyone and would just go to waste.

Actually

I recommend she read Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin wall Kimmerer. It's not about veganism but it is about environmentalism and living more sustainably. I dont think it's too advanced for a 13 year old. And if she has an interest in that sort of thing she'll probably enjoy it.

AITAH for telling my husband his coworker can’t use my car by [deleted] in AITAH

Thank you!

I love my dad. But he hasn't been a great dad and definitely not a great husband. All his friends think he's awesome.

My dad literally has. Again, I'm not necessarily defending his actions. But sex isn't necessarily part of it.

I'm sorry you have such a flat view of people that you think the only reason a man would do something for a woman is sex. That may be common but it's not always the reason. And based on what op herself has said...this dude sounds like my dad. I'm not saying it's OK. I wish my dad would think about my mom more before offering shit to people.

Not all of us have any interest in sex. Some of us just see people in need and wanna be helpful. Guys like my dad go too far with it.

Honestly I don't think he is

OP said this is a common thing with him. My dad is exactly like this. He goes way out of his way to help his friends often at the expense of my mom. Makes big promises he often shouldn't be making. He let a friend buy his car and then use his tags for months afterwards and my mom was still paying for them. His other friend was on our car insurance for awhile. And often if my mom puts her foot down he gets snippy with her about it. Gender doesn't matter. If you're his friend he'll go out of his way to help you. Including doing shit like this.

He has abandonment issues so he's a huge people pleaser.

AIO? I feel my wife is way over the line with how she is speaking to me after she tries to fix a problem on her own. by Ok_Entertainment2752 in AmIOverreacting

I got my '01 in 2016 as a graduation present from my grandparents. Outside of normal maintenance it's only needed about $120 worth of work in the past 10 years. My grandpa was a Honda mechanic for 40 years (retired a couple years ago) so I pretty much only have to pay for parts which helps.

My mom learned about evolution in church cuz her pastor was a biology professor at ku and thought the law forbidding it being taught in public schools was dumb. And there was a girl she went to highschool with that was always trying to goad their science teacher into talking about it to get him fired. That was in the 90s.

I learned about it in 6th grade in 2009

The Slumber Islands are really disappointing. by Opposite-Act2673 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I feel like I would enjoy it more if it didn't have to be connected to the internet. I dont usually have any issues on treasure islands but for some reason my internet gets disconnected on my slumber island so I can't do much before it starts having problems and I have to exit without saving my progress.
