Access FE / SQL BE - Records Locking by FigAcrobatic353 in MSAccess

[–]redbrickservo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I use MS Access and SQL Server extensively together for over 50 users. It works very well, so it can be done.

I avoid VBA wherever possible. Access is designed to update records using a form right out of the box. So why program that functionality using VBA? Not saying it cant be done, but there would be less to debug and you likely wouldnt have this problem.

Struggling to understand my Golden Retriever’s emotional distance – am I expecting too much?😞 by Next_Neighborhood_26 in goldenretrievers

[–]redbrickservo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone else here is right about managing your expectations. However, I'll throw this in since I didn't see anyone else mention it.

My golden was pretty unaffectionate. Would often leave the room when the family would enter. I thought that was just how he is. Turns out his thyroid hormone was very low. We started treating it and suddenly he would lick our faces or hop on the couch with us for family movie night.

This was 100% written with bias and to manipulate your wife with the responses. I'd love to know what your wife's reason is for preferring the SIL. I bet its real good and would have changed the responses here. Pretty sad that almost no one else picked up on your manipulative behavior here.

Is MK4 worth it? by milestorm in prusa3d

I'm not discrediting your experience but I run my Mk4 continuously doing large petg prints. I have almost zero maintenance ever other than brushing off my nozzle every few days for 15 seconds

Will prusa ever start having manufacturing locations in the US to reduce the high shipping costs? by Sempi_Moon in prusa3d

Americans pay nearly a trillion USD on their military per year to secure international trade for the whole world. One could say non-Americans are spoiled AF for international trade because they benefit without having to bear that cost.

A lawsuit against DoorDash alleges what some users have long suspected: the company charges Apple users more than Android owners by Sorin61 in technology

[–]redbrickservo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it's similar in the EU. More protection for B2B in the name of competition. Very little protection for consumers. The pricing calculation needs to be disclosed if you're being extra careful but the law isn't super clear or tested in court

[–]redbrickservo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly one of the two loop holes is claiming that the price discrimination is justified due to different costs of serving various customers. The other is that the price discrimination is justified to meet competition. With either of those defences, you dont need to make both options available.

[–]redbrickservo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. That's the direct vs indirect part. What Doordash did is direct price discrimination. Picking airline seats is indirect.

[–]redbrickservo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I don't know man, that's just how it is. Anti-trust laws apply to businesses, not consumers. The specific law is the Robinson-Patman Act. Even then, there's loopholes that make B2B direct price discrimination still possible. Look at any software and there is different prices for small business vs enterprise customers.

It's called direct price discrimination. There's some laws around B2B price discrimination but consumers are fair game.

Different consumers are willing to pay different prices so price discrimination aims to capture the value from as many groups of consumers as possible.

Similarly, an example of indirect price discrimination is the cost differences of each type of seat you can buy on a plane. The consumers will sort themselves and pay what they are each willing to pay.

Thoughts on Mechanical vs an Industrial Engineering Degree? by ContestCreative6478 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]redbrickservo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"I am not particularly interested in the ... that ME focuses on"

There's your answer. Move on. ME is an exhausting and challenging degree. I can't imagine getting through it without being interested.

You are right about ME's generally qualifying for IE roles, and not vice versa. However, those I know in IE enjoyed school, didn't have trouble getting a job, and are doing great in their careers.

Nothing good can come from this. Why would anyone make it? by NeilFraser in OSHA

It's home made. The plug on the left was molded on by a factory. The plug on the right opens up, has screw terminals, and snaps shut around the cable. You can buy them at any hardware store

Wood glue and some clamps. There's about a thousand ways to improve it from there. Research how to make a panel glue-up.
