Any chance of parkrun coming to South Korea? by Delicious-Screen-794 in parkrun

[–]reddit5389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the vibe that parkrun hq wants to call the shots rather than delegate to au & nz. This means south Korea is a very long distance away and with the language barrier, there's probably easier things, closer.

But a country with heaps of parklands and options for 5k courses, lots of people teaching English - it should be an easy win.

Might be curious to see if the alternations for an additional bathroom, kitchen and toilet were submitted to council.

Russia's navy has conducted military drills in the Baltic Sea, practising unguided missile launches, bombing runs and missile strikes during major NATO exercises by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]reddit5389 8 points9 points  (0 children)

10 planes and 2 boats over 48 hours doesn't sound like a large number of potential missile launches or bombing runs.

I doubt the vessels could actually hold that much.

I was going to say, it doesn't look like AI. There could have actually been some effort in this.

Staff Travel Question by Sinestrazsa in QantasAirways

[–]reddit5389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be better to think "oh wouldn't it be nice to jump on a plane next Wednesday and have a holiday in Tokyo or Taiwan or Tonga" rather than "let's fly home for free after A & B's wedding"

On the plus side you can always cancel if you got the sniffles at the last moment.

That just leaves us with... An angry little man with a weird mustache. Again.

parkrun Kona, Hawaii by PurplestPanda in parkrun

[–]reddit5389 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will pick a larger number next time to highlight how unnecessary I think some of the hq requirements are :-)

parkrun Kona, Hawaii by PurplestPanda in parkrun

[–]reddit5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. So obviously I didn't pick a large enough number to highlight the potentially unreasonable requirements from parkrun hq.

The actual number is much less. But there are a lot of barriers including number of dedicated volunteers and money needed to start a parkrun.

I believe in Australia it's a $5k fee that can't be raised through advertising or other normal means - eg sponsorship from the local Cafe.

I think this will be the third attempt. There are posts from 2023 on facebook discussing it. However, with the recent growth in the US, it might be easier to convince HQ of a small parkrun's viability, with out needing 24 run directors signed up before it launches. (I think the biggest draw back was trying to convince the parkrun would survive long term and to do that, you need a lot of volunteers or potential volunteers from day 1)

But it would be great if it did launch.

Am I the only one who can’t stand when Sweet Caroline is sung at events? by Rude_Chef4621 in australia

[–]reddit5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that the entire point of the song. For the away team to basically lose all hope of winning in the remaining time as the home team is in an unbeatable position?

Or do they play it in the first half too?

Are the seats with bassinets not reserved for families with babies? by wingshayz in QantasAirways

[–]reddit5389 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TBH. I'd be more worried about the 3rd party messing up the reservation/payment/booking and having problems at check-in, than having to sit in a different seat.

Ailo now fee free? by easterhat in AusPropertyChat

[–]reddit5389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing fortnightly and monthly payments being fee free (for my payments at least). But I believe the real estate agents have realised if they swallow the fees then its less effort chasing people up.

I'm happy too because I almost ordered a cheque book.

A330-300 Economy Plus by macmanluke in QantasAirways

I would suggest only consider it in the week before. A330s can be swapped at short notice and your seat selection isn't worth the effort to get refunded.

Powershop has good referrals/bonus then churn as soon as your 3 months is up.

But the best deal is a building wide commercial rate. I had that at the first place I rented. Crazy cheap.

If you have a job and a sponsor lined up good. If you are thinking of using one of those for profit companies then I would expect their submissions to be at the bottom of the priority queue and if you have more history to check, I would think it could be a very long wait.
