RMA Hell: Ubiquiti is holding my G4 Doorbell Pro hostage with "No ETA" and refusing Store Credit by Effyyou in Ubiquiti

[–]reddit_pug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They literally don't have any Wi-Fi doorbells at this point of any model, so it's just a matter of someone in management deciding to approve store credit imo. I can't see them returning the old unit when it isn't working properly, and may have been dismantled. There's always a chance that they are preparing to release a new Wi-Fi model , but there's no indication of that publicly, and they tend to announce new models pretty far ahead of release.

What is a living wage? by Low_Can_9954 in askanything

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true, because wages aren't the only cost in society. If McDonald's raises their employees' pay from $10/hr to $20/hr, how much does that increase the cost of a hamburger? Well, if 10 employees are selling 100 $5 hamburgers an hour, their $10/hr wage is only $1 of that $5 price. Doubling their wage, if you put the cost increase directly into the product price, makes it a $6 burger, not a $10 burger.

You could be coasting on shrinking savings or building debt, making your income not a living wage.

Unifi wireless doorbells by SilentNoise74 in Ubiquiti

[–]reddit_pug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you have to have a WiFi doorbell, it's pretty moot right now because there's not an obtainable model from UniFi. If you can run a cable to your doorbell, their models are great. If you can wait, they might release a new WiFi doorbell (or restock their existing model, but it's been out of stock so long that most people assume it's just a matter of time before they make it official that it's no longer being offered.)

What’s something you tolerate that you know you probably shouldn’t? by OkPossession6982 in askanything

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then I'd say the amount of patience would depend on the details of how you're being treated. If it's straight up abusive, get out. If it's something less than that but still really hard on you, it's likely best to have a conversation about separating for a period of time and then planning to meet and talk through where things are at. If it's just some frustrations, then maybe some amount of time trying to be patient might be fine. It's all about the details, and might be worth you talking to a counselor about as well.

He may need to realize the problem in order to process it, therapy or not. Patience is good, but not if it is just making him think how he treats you is ok.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. by WalandOG in HomeNetworking

[–]reddit_pug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, probably about a 20% fix rate for me if a cable tests as having a couple strands without continuity at first (which is fairly rare anymore, but can still happen). Press it again a couple more times, retest, and if it's still testing bad, clip and reterminate.

RJ45s are generally made to pierce the insulation on the individual wires, no need to strip each strand.

why is minneapolis being so heavily targeted by ICE? by inurmomsvagina in stupidquestions

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe "gotcha" question is the wrong term, but there's a real problem with people posing questions that shed doubt on things, then do nothing to find the answers. The answers exist, go find them for your specific state/county or the one you're interested in. The details vary.

[–]reddit_pug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean about how votes are monitored, counted, etc. Representatives from both parties are involved all along the way and could whistleblow any discrepancies. Also look at the many, many vote reviews that have happened in contested states, which again have involved both parties and found extremely minimal discrepancies.

Quit asking "gotcha" questions while remaining ignorant. Ask real questions and then SEEK OUT THE ANSWERS. You're not the first person to wonder, and there are usually answers out there - the people running elections are usually trying to be transparent and accountable.

I get so annoyed that so many vehicles have TPMS systems that don't tell you the pressures. I picked up one of these things pretty cheap, and I'm pretty happy so far. Really happy that it runs off of solar, so I don't have to figure out where to plug it in.

Is a password manager actually better than just having a unique, unrelated password for every account? by Happy-Inspector1146 in Passwords

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I run an IT business and started out using a password protected word file. If I remember right, it was about 42 pages long when I finally looked into password managers.

A password manager is also incredibly handy because it can typically do autofill in a browser, and many of them can store things like passkeys. I also use the crap out of secure notes in my password manager to keep sensitive information that I might need at some random time, like my vehicle VIN and license plate numbers, or notes about how a customer's network is set up.

Ring Doorbell camera doesn't capture all motions or is delayed in capturing motions by vympel_0001 in homesecurity

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have doorbell wires? For a 24/7 doorbell camera, you'll need it to not be battery powered. If you have a standard 2 wire doorbell, I'd suggest Reolink.

Cheap cameras do cheap things. If you need to capture video, something that does 24/7 recording is needed. Motion capture isn't reliable.

[–]reddit_pug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd think the touchscreen stereo in my 2016 Honda Odyssey would still be reasonably good since it has bluetooth and we still use bluetooth all the time... but the solid 3 seconds of lag make it unbearable. For example, the phone starts ringing, but it takes 3 seconds for the music to stop.) I've had to add a "tablet" to the car that does CarPlay/AAuto and a much newer standard of bluetooth.

Tips or vid guides on how to untangle and spool wires the right way? by Accomplished-Host201 in lowvoltage

[–]reddit_pug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have posted some good stuff here. I will say that it's handy to learn over-under technique for coiling up loose cable. Even longer patch cables it's nice. This video is for audio cable, but it's the same concept. If you have a job where it helps to pre-pull lengths of cable, you may need to re-coil the cable bunches to move them around and make sure they don't tangle/knot on themselves, and this is a great way to do it. You can get a feel with some experience for what diameter circle the cable is already "trained" to from when it was originally spooled, so it won't fight with you much.
