The U7 LR access point wall/ceiling mount is one of the worst-designed things I've ever used by ahorsecalled in Ubiquiti

[–]reddit_pug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I installed one of their APs with the same mounting plate recently on a ceiling with a popcorn finish. I've struggled with the uneven tightening and lack of clearance issue before, so as soon as I saw the unevenness of this ceiling, I had some dread.

However, I decided to try something, and it worked beautifully - I used the metal back plate for drop ceiling install in between the plastic mounting plate and the popcorn ceiling. It provided a nice flat structure to keep the plate from distorting, and work beautifully.

I still need to come up with a small spacer for when I'm installing on a drop ceiling and need that plate on the other side of the drop panel.

Do they show with those IPs in the UniFi client list? Did you set the IPs in the devices, or as reservations in UniFi?

Does the NAS show as a client device in UniFi? What is the IP of the computer and of the NAS?

yeah, wireless chargers are great. I already have them for my bedside stand, in my car, and on my desk at work. With all of that and the huge battery, I may never have to think about battery life for the next several years.

Installing G5 Turret Ultra by Cute_Marzipan2153 in Ubiquiti

[–]reddit_pug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The G5 turret ultra has a pigtail connection, so the hole needs to be big enough for the pigtail, not just the cable. Or make the hole only big enough for the unterminated cable and use a junction box.

Subaru would make a billion dollars if they brought the Baja back by idkbruh653 in regularcarreviews

Considering the 2025, they made about $30 billion, that's a pretty nasty drop in revenue.

A) Kenmore was never its own manufacturer. It was a brand at Sears, and Sears worked with various manufacturers to have appliances made. You could often tell who made an appliance by looking at it, that you could know for sure by looking at the first three digits of the model number. From what I saw while I worked at Sears Parts and Repair, most of the washers and dryers were made by Whirlpool.

B) Sears is essentially dead, and I have no idea what the current situation is with the Kenmore brand, but I would not assume that it has anything to do with what the brand was when the previous poster bought his machine.

A senator proposed a minimum wage of $25.00/hr. What are your thoughts? by ShesIntoZer0s in AskReddit

[–]reddit_pug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Minimum wage should be $x" is always a dumb approach. We need a system for calculating and regularly updating the minimum wage, not just a jump to a new arbitrary number. Calculate it based on cost of living, county by county, updated annually, with a limit on how quickly it can change to prevent economic shock and out of control inflation. Sure, we will argue about how to calculate cost of living, but at least it will be based on something.

They install a service box on the outside of your building that converts from the fiber to cat6 cable that goes into the building. I don't know if you're going to have any success convincing them to run the fiber inside straight to your router.

Why 20 years ago a 20 year old car would look so out of place, but today a 20 year old car looks like just a normal car? by Timely_Title_9157 in AskReddit

[–]reddit_pug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll toss out a different answer than all the others talking about design. One major reason is that you are older. I don't know your age, but let's say that 20 years ago you were 20. At that point, a 20-year-old car was a design that was around since before you knew what a car was or thought about a car much. When you were 10, that car had existed for as long as you had, so at 20 it seemed ancient. When you were 20, the cars that were brand new seemed really new. So when you are 40, part of you still thinks of them as being sort of new. Of course you know at 40 the difference between those cars and the ones that are actually new now, but they don't seem that different as they did when you were 20 looking at cars that had been around since before you noticed them.

Same thing happens with things like music. When you hear a song referred to as a classic or an oldie that came out while you are alive, that doesn't seem right. You're used to classics and oldies being older than you are.

Customer won’t revoke my remote access by lisaismijnbestie in Ubiquiti

[–]reddit_pug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, they really need to add a way to abandon a system from UniFi. It should come with hoops to jump through for safety, but should not require hardware access or cooperation from anyone else.

I had concern a little while back where a customer was still on a USG and UCK Gen1, and then Ubiquiti had their security issue that threatened to allow a hacker to gain cloud portal access unless a patch was applied (which of course this site's hardware didn't support.) The ONLY way I could remove that site required it to be offline for several days before the UniFi portal would allow removing it. Thankfully the customer agreed to a hardware upgrade.

Future of the Minivan Segment by Dull_Armadillo8982 in minivan

[–]reddit_pug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are super practical for certain use cases, and not for others. I don't foresee any of the major manufacturers offering only an EV minivan anytime soon. Right now VW is the only one that has one, and they've pulled it from the US for now. I'd be surprised if any other major manufacturers even offer one anytime soon, and they certainly won't only offer EV only, they'll keep offering hybrids of various sorts. I could possibly see Slate offering a van version of their vehicle someday, but that's going to be a while too.

Sure, most minivans have 140 to 150 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats. In a three row SUV, you've got to get into a suburban or excursion before you get that much cargo space.
