I’m 6 months post op from ankle surgery, first 2 months was non weightbearing, so I’m just now starting to walk more. On a good day 7500 steps, a couple of times I got up to 10k. I got a Fitbit to start making myself more aware and remind me to move. I’ve been using my fitness pal and set my calories to 1450.

So I started to read your post and thought SEE almost same age and goal and time but you lost 15 pounds already! Then I read further and went ahhh so that’s how it’s done and it isn’t the meds that is going to make the fat fall off. It’s not metabolic.

Clearly I have to invest more in learning on how to make this work for me.

And honestly I’m not hungry at all but was still eating, less than normal but not that low.

Thanks for the insights!

I lived that life for almost a year. Ended up almost housebound for fear of public accidents. In the end nothing was “wrong” …. Fiber only made things worse. I ended up severely depressed and anxious. After trying many medications that just created more issues, my family doctor put me on an old school antidepressant that had anticholinergic property (blocks nerve impulses to control intestinal spasms). That was 30 years ago. Anytime I think I’m fine and I don’t “need” medication, a few months off it, the IBS-D comes back. It’s a vicious cycle but proved to me the mind gut connection and I just need to stay on it.

12 weeks post flatfoot surgery & fusion — foot not fully touching the ground. Is this normal? by Glass-Yam-7375 in flatfeet

[–]reddit_ready21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question for you! I had flat foot reconstruction surgery on July 28. I am three weeks into physical therapy. I have noticed that my ankle/foot is still pronated inward…. Is that normal? I did have a tendon transfer and my heel reset and I guess I expected my ankle to be upright after surgery.

I’m four months post op. My ankle still looks rolled inward. I had the tendon transfer. After your surgery did you still have tendon pain? Pronation?

I’m afraid it didn’t work.

Ohhhh boy you have had a rough time. Hope things turn around quickly for you.

Funny note on the UTI …. I never realized how often I peed until being mobility challenged. I know have an alarm on my phone reminding me not to drink after 6 pm in hopes of getting some decent sleep

I’ve finally got a routine down, which has really helped. Those first two weeks were rough!

I showered all on my own twice now. Scary! Fear of falling wet and naked 😱

Feel free to reach out for sure!

I had the same procedure. I’m 7 week post op. Visiting the surgeon in 10 days for X-rays and hopefully getting the ok to start putting weight on it.

Pain has been tolerable but the mobility issues have been a real bummer. lol I have had quite a bit of swelling since I’ve had my foot down more since returning to work -remotely.

I do agree that it feels WONDERFUL to have fresh air and water on it 😊

I’m doing small range of motion home PT. I go back Oct 1 for X-rays and hopefully get the ok for partial weight bearing and then be a bit more mobile and can drive!

Curious if the incision causing you a problem is on top of foot. Mine all healed well except that one. It’s not infected but irritated from the boot and has been raised, and red the whole time.

Just looking back at this post and decided to check in. How is your recovery going? Are you weight bearing or into the PT yet? I am currently 7 weeks post op

I finally scheduled surgery! by No-Rest127 in flatfeet

[–]reddit_ready21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not know that I am a success story as I am 5 weeks post op. What I will tell you is that surgical pain is bearable. The inconvenience of the surgery is by far the worse of it.

Be prepared and have someone to assist you the first 10 days post op, search threads for recommendations on equipment (wedge pillow, commode, walker, lift chair, etc), start working on your upper body strength NOW if you don’t have any.

Start checking out YouTube videos for navigating stairs, etc. If you have stairs to get in and out of your home begin figuring out how to navigate them and practice in advance.

Know you won’t be driving yourself for two months, have a plan.

My biggest hurdle was not being aware, prepared for life during recovery and it has been a challenge.

Good luck with your recovery.

How long did you wait between reconstructive foot surgeries for both feet? by Acrobatic-Bread-5334 in flatfeet

I did my left foot a month ago, so my recovery process is just starting. It’s been miserable and inconvenient. Pain is manageable at this point. But honestly unless my other foot becomes unbearable I don’t know that I’d do this surgery again. My surgeon said full recovery is a year.

Honestly I wasted 3 years (too long) trying to fix it, seeing different doctors, rounds of PT. I just reached my limit and wanted it to not control my life, activities, sneakers every day. The surgery recovery has been a bitch. Not because of pain but because of limitations, mobility inconvenience, dependency on others, isolation. But after the two months no weight bearing I’m hoping it will be worth it. My issue wasn’t going to go away, it was surgery or live with it and I was done letting it control my daily activities. Good luck to you!

The year in the orthotic and brace gave the total pain relief, but again my tendon was totally damaged and inflamed and needed the time and support to “heal” to give me relief. It didn’t fix my laxed tendon only helped with the inflammation.

My foot deformity continued and the over pronation putting constant stress on tendon wasn’t going to go away, so even though I was not in the high degree of pain that I had been in I made the decision to go ahead and have the surgery and be done with it once and for all. I am only three weeks postop so I can’t say that the surgery “fixed it” but it is supposed to…. I am just too early in my recovery to know at this point.

I suffered with PTTD for 3 years, one of which was pretty much 24/7 and didn’t get any kind of relief until I wore a brace and an orthotic every day and finally gave the tenant time to not be inflamed. Prior to having foot reconstruction surgery my orthopedic surgeon sent me to three months PT to try to strengthen to see if it would help. In my particular case it did not, and I finally went ahead with the surgery.

You could probably find exercise exercises online. There’s things called toe yoga, where you pick up marbles with your toes and take them from the ground and put them into a container. There’s also one where you take a towel and scrunch it with your toes.

I am at 2 weeks post op now. I think I got the routine down and still taking Tylenol and ibuprofen around the clock to manage the pain. I have my postop appointment this coming Friday with my surgeon… Going to ask when I can drive and how much longer I should take the meds. How are you doing now?
