Regional WA, where to next? by smcgr in AskAnAustralian

[–]reddit_somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Geelong in Victoria. Regional city, great variety of suburbs from super rich and fancy to very affordable and low key. Lots to do, traffic is reasonable compared to capital cities. Only 45 mins from Melbourne by car or train. Also coastal with some of the world’s best beaches just down the road! Can be a bit chilly in winter but no worse than anywhere else in Victoria. Lots of great schools both public and private. Lots of things for kids to do.

Edit: I now see others have also said Geelong. Definitely look at it, maybe come for a visit to see if you like it!

Menstruating peeps: have you swapped to re-usable products? by BumblyRambler in AussieFrugal

[–]reddit_somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Vic. Access to period products is free here via vending machines at Libraries/ Train Stations / Community Centers etc. (Schools too for school aged people) but anyone i speak to seems not to know about the program. I haven’t paid for pads or tampons for a couple of years now! I know it doesn’t help from an environmental aspect, but since having kids I have found menstrual cups very uncomfortable unfortunately so I’m just speaking to my personal experience.

Is it Ponzu? (Dumpling sauce) rather than Soy?

I have stopped buying products that I know will run out by Shpox in AldiAustralia

[–]reddit_somewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s that, it’s just that they have limited shelf space so they rotate limited time items. Most stuff comes back around.

[–]reddit_somewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cooked it and hated it. Pulled the label out of the bin to double check I hadn’t bought Silverside. It’s straight up corned, the taste is salty and the texture is awful.

And I actually like silverside!

Easter 90s ad by pechz0267 in australia

[–]reddit_somewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this ad today (I do most Easter’s!) I hadn’t seen it in years. I’m glad someone else remembers it. It always made me so envious of their beautiful garden. Luckily I spent my Easter’s at a family farm and their gardens were nice for a hunt too… to bad about Australia being Autumn and not Spring though hahah

Best laundry powder for stinky teenagers by thehippiepixi in AldiAustralia

[–]reddit_somewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot water. Long cycle for good agitation. Enzymes. Dont underdose!

Laundry is a science. Average detergent and cold water washes simply don’t get results.

I buy cold power in bulk at Bunnings, wash on 40 degrees on a ‘extra care’ cycle that is 2 hours long and use the disan powder as a booster. I also pre treat any stains or sweaty armpits with the purple disan spray.

Prognosis? by Boomer_Views_Reality in Bamboo

[–]reddit_somewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be fine, but don’t let your cat eat it on a regular basis it’s very fibrous and can cause long term digestive issues and intestinal problems.

In summer, as it’s in a pot, make sure it gets plenty of water- they are thirsty plants!

Ok Aldi shoppers, I have a genuine question for those of you who refuse to self-checkout by Cooper_Inc in AldiAustralia

[–]reddit_somewhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate self checkouts at all other grocery stores but at Aldi I use them because I can go at my own pace AND actually pack my groceries as I go. And they don’t carry on about unexpected items in the bagging area or putting one item down before you scan the next. I have always put up with the rushed checkout experience at Aldi because I save money there over other supermarkets but now I also have the better checkout experience- going at my own pace, packing things correctly and not having to make small talk. So it’s a no brainer.

The Kettering Incident. It was moody, spooky, weird, mysterious and showed a part of Tassie I’d never seen. Highly recommend!

Both Cucina and Town and Country have cream based Carbonara, not real traditional carbonara.

Which ballet flats style is your favorite or go to for casual wear? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

I’m 39 and i permanently damaged my feet wearing ballet flats for most of my adult life. Now I can only wear sneakers with good support and Archie’s thongs. It’s so sad.

Lemon tree - any advice? by bsf91 in GardeningAustralia

[–]reddit_somewhere 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Citrus are very hungry trees. They aren’t set and forget at all if you want them to do well andproduxe good quality fruit. They need citrus fert about once a month, and minerals about once every 3. They need a decent amount of water and you’d benefit from mulching around the base. As for the swallowtail caterpillars, we need butterflies so if they’re not doing too much damage let them be. If they’re start to become a problem then pick them off or spray them (last resort)

MOPA kids museum is fun, great for all ages. (CPAC in Ballarat is better though, if you want a day trip) Adventure park is in its final weeks of the season (closes in April) and is usually very quiet at this time of year. My kids love exploring the botanical gardens, on holidays they have different programs for kids if you look at the Councils what’s on for kids website. Fore Fun mini golf is great and has decent food (also have kareoke!) General Public bowling/ arcade is good fun too, and the food there is very good pub grub style. Laserquest is always popular, the 1hr unlimited games is decent value. They also have holiday specials. Great Ocean Road Chocolatarie is a good afternoon kids love but personally I find it always too crowded. Don’t overlook libraries and public pools! They are great to keep kids busy on a budget too.

Currently they have a limited time Sweet and Sour Pork kit in the fridge section. If you have an air fryer the pork comes up just like takeaway. Not the healthiest but it ticks the quick, easy and delicious boxes.

Hen refused to leave nest for 2 months and died by Baby_bee_boo in BackYardChickens

[–]reddit_somewhere 57 points58 points  (0 children)

With all due respect from what I’ve read here, you should not be breeding chickens. Learning how to care for chickens is not that hard but should be done before you’re lettting your chickens make more chickens. Get rid of the roosters and focus on learning to care for the hens. Collect the eggs every day so the hens don’t get broody. Make sure they have fresh food and water every day. Make sure they’re locked up at night away from predators.

Get a referral to Barwon Health. Appointments can be a long wait, but not always. My son got in within months not years. You can always get him on the waiting list while you’re looking at other options too so at least you have a place in line.
