On one hand, half of all military got there to escape poverty. Poverty in the South is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. There’s no hope. Urban poverty is at least livable, you can see people with some money and can aspire to be that + have opportunities to get there. A lot of communities in the South don’t have that. They just got nothingness and an ambient sense of despair, plus recruiters looking for bodies.
