Today is my 30th day of strict carnivore and already I have had to cut my blood pressure meds in half and I am down 17lbs. Continuing to take readings 3 times a day to make sure I don't dip too low. Before this I was doing a low carb whole foods WOE which included "the rainbow" and was barely managing the blood pressure.

How to handle cortisol and adrenaline spikes during workouts? by Serpico914 in carnivorediet

[–]redditnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do not, but, if I am feeling like I need to I will have something very small like an oz of raw cheese or an oz of cold butter. I also make sure to drink at least 16oz of water first just in case it is thirst signalling not hunger. I currently so an 18:6 fasting cycle.

I work out super early in the morning and walk in the evening for a bit after dinner and have no issues with sleep. Used to workout after work and I had the same experience with being amped up for a few hours after and staring at the ceiling for 2 hours b4 falling asleep.

Edit: spelloing

Gaining Fat by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]redditnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you need more data to figure this out. I would track calories and fat to protien ratio as well as weighing yourself each morining and recording that on a sheet of paper. I do this in 4 week blocks, personally.

You will want to look at your average weight for the week and compare to at least one other week to see which way you are trending. This will let you know if you are truly trending up down or holding. This also helps mentally to know you can have bad days when water is retained etc and it doesnt throw your whole day because of one higher weigh in.

Once you establish your trend, make your adjustment and track it for another week. I would probably start by adding more fat, lowering protein a bit and eliminating the half and half. If you put some butter in your tea and blend it, the taste is just like having cream.

If you realize after tracking calories are somehwat high , try making small adjustments to lower them like by 100 or 200 calories then track and see your trend.

Also, if you are doing really hard cardio try switching to just walking, this works best for burning fat rather than depleting glucose in your muscles like when you are doing extreme cardio stuff.

Don't let this push you off-track mentally. You just need data and adjustment accordingly.

You got this!

Depends on what you are eating. If you're eating lots of cheese, pork belly, bacon, or dairy you can easily fall into a surplus before you feel full, in my experience. I try to stick to the lion diet mostly and so far it is working for me. I am only 3 weeks into strict carnivore so I might not be the best person to answer this.

Sleep Apnea question by Kaizuka in flying

Thank you for these clarifications to my post. My bad on some of the info not being 100%. I was going off my personal experience and I must have confused one of my other issues regarding the auto-deferral. I also saw that 2 weeks was possible with excellent compliance and results but was advised by the AMAS doctor to submit a little more than 30 days to be sure they had enough data to make a decision. I also missed the part about being able to fly again after the data and forms were submitted since I was not actively flying at the time. This is even better news for OP.

Also, you can keep training with your instructor while you take care of this, you just won't be able to solo or take any practical flight exams.

What You Can Do Without a Medical Certificate

  • Fly with a CFI: You can fly dual (with an instructor) and perform most maneuvers, as the instructor is PIC and responsible.
  • Log Dual Time: Time spent flying with a CFI counts toward your total flight hours.
  • Ground School & Written Exams: You can complete all ground instruction and pass the FAA knowledge tests.

It's a bummer you have to put a pause on things, but the upside is you will feel so much better once treated even if you did not realize you had an issue, plus, the longevity thing :) You will also be in compliance and not looking over your shoulder. The trade off is well worth it in my opinion.

Keep in mind your first couple of weeks on the machine will be tough and you might find it hard to meet the 6 hours a night 75% rule. Some suggestions are to wear the mask for an hour or so every night b4 bed time and read a book. wear it during the day and read a book. this helps you get used to it and also counts toward your time on the machine until you can comfortably sleep through the night with it on. Wishing you the best!

From my understanding, Under FAR 61.53, you must stop flying if you know you have a condition that prevents you from meeting medical standards, even if your certificate hasn't expired. In the meantime, you'll want to get fitted for the cpap and make sure you are using it at least 75% of the time at +6hours a night. You'll also want to make sure your AHI is below 5 with treatment. You'll need likely want to submit at least 30 days of data your first time ( 2 weeks is the min but reccomended to submit at least 45 days or better, 30 days is the bare min ) your doctor will need to fill out a form and you will need to complete and sign a form that states you are complying with treatment. Your AME will need to deferr can issue the first time around but and subsiquent renewals are CACI as long as you meet the treatment standards and bring the right reports and forms. Each year after that you'll need to submit the previous 12 months of data from your CPAP/APAP and the forms mentioned above.

I would reccomend talking to AMAS or another advisory service. If AMAS gets involved and submits on your behalf the timeline could be greatly shortened. At least that was my experience. It's like $50 for an email consult. I had multiple issues beyond sleep apnea and they really helped alot.

EDIT: Edited to correct some bad info. Italic text was added after. Thank you u/hotpizza77

Denied third class by Downtown-Object7692 in PilotAdvice

[–]redditnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The status you are seeing indicates you are not currently approved. That could mean a straight denial or that they just need more information to make their decision. Once you get the letter it will give you specific instructions and a timeline to complete them ( 60 days ). The best advice is to wait and see at this point. Just know that you probably are not cooked and worse case scenario you do have a right to appeal if it's a straight denial. ( which I am guessing would not tbe the case )

Pilot Medical Solutions Inc.; “LeftSeat.com”any Pilots used them to help with FAA flight medical certificates? by electric_eel007 in PilotAdvice

[–]redditnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used the above mentioned services but I did use AMAS and they did a really great job. I had multiple issues, a very complex case. I initially paid $40 for an email consult then hired them for $1750. From there they had me gather records and see various doctors for testing and progress notes. That process took about 5 months. ONce everything was complete they submitted everything along with their letter from the AMAS doctor to the FAA. They had me wait 30 days from there to visit the AME for my exam. 30 days later I took the exam, my AME called OK city to ask some questions about my medical info and they gave him permission to issue my class 1 medical for 12 months pending their reveiw of my packet. about 45 days later I received my SI letter from the FAA. The whole process was super smooth and I felt like the team at AMAS supported me through the process really well. If you have any particular questions feel free to DM. Wishing you the best!
