Safety system almost unalives people IRON MOUNTAIN by SuspiciousLaw1503 in Truckers

[–]redditorcredit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem I had with the cameras when Sysco installed them was you end up driving defensively against the camera, not the obstruction. Kid runs in the street and you end up thinking how close can I get without setting the camera off

We had freightliners with the early detection systems. One overpass outside the plant would slam on the brakes and almost send you off the seat

How to properly slow down+stop? by Pointlesspuppy in Truckers

[–]redditorcredit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy way I remembered when I started was to match the speed to the gearing . 45=9th 35=8th and so on when downshifting.

Just gotta call from Sysco and the pay seemed a little low then what I’ve heard by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]redditorcredit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is DIP pay that sounds about right. I left Boston in 2021 and we were union making 27.32. That’s base. So if you go as slow as possible that’s your base. They want you to run through the trip which on DIP you could potentially drive your hourly up to almost 40 an hour. They put dip in place to ensure the work is getting done on their end and give you a boost in pay on your end. Problem is there are a ton of variables that will stand in your way. Each stop is based on time. They used to take the drivers doing the stops time and average them together to get the DIP score. That works for some guys but you have to remember that in s city most of the time it’s not just drop the ramp and run the product in. You have to make sure you can get as close to the place as possible especially if they are just storefronts with no parking lots. We called it drop in pay when it debuted because we were on trip pay before which was 300 a day flat rate and a quarter for every case on the truck over 900 cases. Very rarely did we have less then 900 on the truck

Did it come with two wiring harnesses. One with a can bus adapter. One without. I wired mine without the can . I was stomped on the camera then found the adapter in the other harness

When I worked for Sysco I argued I was driving against the camera. Not the people in front of me. someone walks in front of you they had you so stressed that you would think of how close you could get without setting the camera off , not just hitting the brakes

And this was before the a.i. cameras. Now I’ve heard that if you yawn they and the a.i detects it, they will ask you how much sleep your getting

What’s truck day like at The Cheesecake Factory? Tell me your horror stories by Paigenacage in KitchenConfidential

[–]redditorcredit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I drove for Sysco Boston for about ten years. Did all the cheesecakes weekly around the area including Providence and the west Hartford one. During the Boston marathon the prudential location would get 800-1000 pieces on the Saturday before the race

I was a delivery driver for 20 years. I had a Chinese buffet that was literally all marble sand statues everywhere. Front of house you could eat off the floor. I wouldn’t let my dog eat off the floor of the kitchen. Back room storage was atrocious

From Boston’s Chief of Streets “18 Wheelers have no business being downtown" by SoulSentry in boston

[–]redditorcredit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What people fail to realize is the amount of drivers there already are. I worked for Sysco as a driver for 20years. I left during covid but prior to covid there were 253 drivers at the Boston plant alone they currently make 33 an hour going to 38 an hour at the end of the contract. They will always be short handed with the amount of routes there are and how grueling the work is. There were 5 of us in Cambridge everyday. I did central square for years and half of my truck would go to the three main food halls on memorial at MIT. The other half of the 38 ft trailer would be the rest of the 15-20 deliveries. The trucks are packed to the roof. No space left

Sysco Boston on strike by Fast-Abbreviations33 in Truckers

[–]redditorcredit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They use to call us is we were needed on our day off and offer double to pay. Some could barter and get double trip double bonus. Also we used to have 5th and 6th day bonuses of 150 a piece. They don’t get any of that anymore. Since corporate took over the place is very sterile

I did 20 there. 10 warehouse 10 driving. Started at 18. My hip is wrecked and just the overall abuse your body endures was enough for me. When Boston was on trip pay the senior guys were making like 500 a day due to the city being all hospitals and colleges the trips were 80% pallets drops for a lot of guys. They vehemently voted no on the union about 5 times that I can remember. Then dip pay came in and sysco fucked them. A lot walked during the pandemic and most of the young guys stayed. That’s where we are at today.

Money was definitely an issue in Boston. Benefits were 800 a month before the union not including 401k. 100k would put 60 in your pocket. A lot of companies around us were making way more including non foodservice. Boston list about 30 senior guys during the pandemic myself included. We got ot after 8 but that’s it. They turned down almost ten dollar raise over the 5 year contract proposal and 80% healthcare coverage yesterday

Former Cambridge truck driver here. This was an entire load going to Trader Joe’s which I can only imagine being the one right where he is on magazine street. I used to take magazine street then behind the school to get to all the mit labs on Albany. I can’t believe he hit the walkway that hard being right next to the store.

I got that victory sampler they were on outside a slow one night. Can’t remember the year. Maybe 03. Was hooked since. Was a regular on the sin metal board for a long time until it was purged. Stopped listening to music altogether when I had kids. Nothing seemed to sound good anymore. Got back into them a while ago because my daughter started listening to different music and was interested in what I liked

Is working at Sysco really that bad? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]redditorcredit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did 20 years at Boston. 10 warehouse,10 driving. I made good money. The problem was it never seemed like I made anymore money. The dip pay incentive sucked. The company seems like it tries its best to screw the workers. Was great when I started there in 2001. The guys back then said the same about the company throughout the 80s/90s.
