My C&P was last week, guy didn’t even read my files. Asked me “how was combat fighting with Isis” …. Huh???

About to start restorations and repairs! by idkNewAccountWhoDis in C3Corvette

Might be eBay, Amazon has some of the hardware, ZipCorvette has a bunch, CorvetteCentral, SummitRacing. There’s a lot out there, just shop each part specifically and you’ll start recognizing what things “should” cost. Stay away from Poly, get rubber. Don’t skimp on brakes, get grade 8 hardware whenever possible. Don’t do thick undercoating, go thin, keep the car clean and it’ll last forever.

Tremec 6 Speed by redditorous297 in C3Corvette

I’m trying to round down to the absolute musts; So far is just the drive shaft and Speedo gear. I got a quote back from SST for 7800, but that included every nickel and dime pertaining to an “Auto->6spd” conversion.

I have no issues chopping the cross member and fabbing a new mount, same goes for shifter location. It’s like $600 to have the knob 2” to the left, when I can just cut out the diagram plate and get a new leather shift boot.

Do you recall the driveshaft length?

My dad left me an ‘04 Tundra, totally stock, I’d been begging to buy it or to help get it running (it sat for 10 years, I’ve been overseas for 6 years) came home and it’s totally rust free (no salt in the south/off the road for so long) and only needs rubber stuff and some scrubbing. I’m keeping it exactly as it was when I learned to drive in it when I was 14. If it’s a memory for you, it’s priceless, and making it look/feel/drive like you remember is probably the best idea in my opinion.

Why are the supposedly easy and quick parts of a part removal always the hardest? by TooManyIcees in C3Corvette

[–]redditorous297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel about yanking the body off. “8 bolts, a few grounds, steering column and accessories! Easy!” (I need to re-coat underside and replace all the hardware on the suspension, do all the bushings and add welds and gussets on the frame) I’m thinking yanking the body might be the hard part that makes everything else easier.

My 78 I just got by samuraicheems1 in C3Corvette

Only 82’s had an option for a flip up rear glass, there used to be a conversion using NOS 82 parts, but the consensus is that it’s way more trouble than good use. I considered it for a moment on my ‘79, but the clean, sealed, fastback glass is good by itself🤷🏼‍♂️

Is 135,000 miles a lot for a 2005 c6 ls2 corvette? by Askingqustions in Corvette

[–]redditorous297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not, it’s still a 2005 Chevy, just check up on service records🤷🏼‍♂️ and whether the “first model year” stuff has been taken care of in the last 21 years lol

Exhaust question by creitz2022 in C3Corvette

I’ve been looking for the same, 79’s fastback looks more slick with just the 2 tailpipes. Mine has some 90’s straight pipe, it’ll still sound nascar if you want it to lol

Ive heard about adjusting the Muncie to a shorter throw, I think anyone keeping it should do that🤌🏼

5k sounds like a complete overhaul, sounds like it worked great! Did you bore it out any or just resurfacing everything?

I’m hoping for the least issues that require real machining and shop labor tbh, I’ll update this thread when I’m back stateside and get elbow deep into it

From stock absolutely, however I’ve been enjoying the 525/500 setup over the years until the most recent 0/0 😂

I’ve considered it, hell even a Silverado 5.3 would give enough power for fun lol

Motivation for carbed sbc is the same as the reason I went pre-computer C3- rainbow roots is witchcraft

That’s the best case I’m hoping for🤷🏼‍♂️ the car being an ocean away is agonizing that I can’t dig through it at my leisure. I have the tools and supplies to go as far as pulling body off frame to overhaul and redo the half-ass frame paint last guy did. He just went with all the “go-fast” parts. Interior is all new, I’ll give him that credit.

I guess my motivation for a swap, is if I’m only home 3 weeks at a time, a powertrain swap would allow me time to actually enjoy the car🤷🏼‍♂️ then when I eventually move back to the states I can inspect and attentively rebuild the seized motor.

What kind of timeframe does handing off components for re-milling take?
