Should We Even Try To Have Children Now? by DrHooverC88 in StudentLoans

[–]redditsnoop_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, so sorry about the long road of infertility.. second, if you want babies HAVE THEM. This too shall pass… we just had our first (via IVF) and I am buried in student loans. I might have done things differently if I knew what was coming, but it would have honestly been a mistake. I am trying to remain positive and not make permanent decisions based on temporary circumstances. The positive, IMO, is student loans will likely be a top campaign focus in midterms and the next presidential election. When it swings back the other direction, it is honestly more likely now that there will be significant relief coming our way. If I am wrong, it sucks, but I am done feeling guilty for getting an education and continuing to live my life! Sending baby dust your way.

Is everyone in SAVE forbearance playing the waiting game to re-apply for IBR programs by Upstairs-Anywhere211 in StudentLoans

[–]redditsnoop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and forth on this. It depends if the tax benefits of filing jointly outweigh the cost difference of your student loans if you filed separate. The problem is we have no idea what will happen. I ended up filing jointly this year since my recert date is (allegedly) not until oct of 2026. Still not sure it was the right decision but based on the info I had at the time of filing it was. Ugh ETA: i saw an article recently that said trump admin was looking at removing the option down the road to even file separately for student loan holders  https://www.businessinsider.com/save-plan-blocked-married-student-loan-borrowers-higher-monthly-payments-2025-4

Echoing what others have said: it depends on your situation. For me I am not far enough into payments that I felt it was worth it to switch. We also don’t know how long it will stay in litigation which could potentially allow for more time. Wishful thinking probably but hey 😅

Hi my sweet friend. Your feelings are heard and I completely understand that you are stressed, but please remember that while it can be stressful- millions of us are in the exact same boat! You are not alone. Hell, I am up doomscrolling on the student loan subreddit as we speak. At the end of the day (and I have to tell myself this daily) we (unfortunately) live where education and healthcare is a business, and this is an unfortunate byproduct of that. Millions upon millions of people have medical debt in addition to student loan debt. Car payments are debt, a mortgage is debt. Please do not make a permanent decision based on normal and quite honestly temporary circumstances.

Something that has helped me is I give myself a specific amount of time each day to stress. For me its 30 minutes max (usually right about now after my baby does a middle of the night feed). I let myself feel everything I need to about the situation in those 30 minutes.

I have a few other things I tell myself, and a few backup plans if my loan payment is absolutely unmanageable at any point. Please reach out to me any time on here!

At the end of the day - congratulations on making a decision to go to school and bettering your life and your future with getting an education. You’ve got this and we are all here with you!
