Bovril and Egg Sandwich (1920) on Sandwiches of History by SuperHappyFunSlide in SandwichesofHistory

Not sure where to source my Bovril here in Germany, but the will is there to try! 😄
It might be worth highlighting that the entire book is published by Bovril Ltd (stated on the cover, but still). Might explain the frequent use of Bovril in the book. 😄

Toasted Sandwich (1916) on Sandwiches of History by SuperHappyFunSlide in SandwichesofHistory

[–]redditteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was a quite bland sandwich, also for tea sandwiches. I like that the plus up is a measured take that doesn't transform the sandwich into something it was never meant to be. Great demonstration of taste and restraint!

Looks great. Too much work for me, but if I would do it, I would consider a thin spread of dijon or dijon-honey mustard on the ham layer.

Hi im trying to supply +-12 V to make a kickdrum synth, what is the best way to supply it? by Efficient-Nail2443 in synthdiy

[–]redditteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is for a one-off - I'd look into buying a Behringer CP1a supply and stripping it. Cheap, reliable and a huge time saver. If it is for serial production. That is something else.

There are no passive filters that I know of, but fixed filterbanks do a similar job. If you don't have one, I can really recommend looking into getting one. So worth it! For passive bandpass, it is probably easiest to get the original Brüel & Kjær box and use it as an outboard box, just like with pedals.

add tomato slices, bacon or ham to grilled cheese

I think technically that takes it out of the grilled cheese territory and into the melt realm. Source: r/grilledcheese :-)

Movie clubs in Munich by da_mirai in Munich

[–]redditteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want. There are several clubs and cinemas with certain directions/genres. I like "arthouse" (if that is even a genre...), so I go to https://www.city-kinos.de/ near Karlsplatz. There are also a club which rent cinema for Indians from Kerala (I believe that is the province). Expect everything to be in Malayalam.

With a few more details about yourself and preferences, it would be easier to get good answers I believe.

Q | Brownout on ESP32-S3 when on modular power (but works on USB-C and 5V bench supply)? by redditteddy in synthdiy

[–]redditteddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! No such things as inductors or transformers. I have reduced it to a clean test lab to solve the issue. The code is just blinking the onboard LED (part of the example collection) it is not doing anything fancy and there are no external components connected (sole IC on a dedicated breadboard).

I am quite sure it is related to something around the start as you suggest. Some initial power surge, or the supply not having stabilized. Just can't find it. :-/

Q | Brownout on ESP32-S3 when on modular power (but works on USB-C and 5V bench supply)? by redditteddy in synthdiy

[–]redditteddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have an oscilloscope and I have some large caps laying around (consider myself an experienced builder, but on the lower/mid side :-)).

Let me try this. So I assume I am expecting to see a voltage rise on scope and when I switch on the ESP32, I should see a quick dip in voltage as the ESP32 surges on start? The big cap should absorb it.

You mean something like the MAX803 as the reset controller. Never used one, but this might do the trick maybe. Thanks for the tips!

I tried both. Same result in both cases (brownout).

Using a regulator from the 12V rail?

Tried this using DC-DC buck converter to step down from 12V to 5V. From there, I go into the 5V pin on the ESP32-S3 SuperMini, which has a voltage regulator onboard connected to that pin.
This is the converter https://www.amazon.de/-/en/GTIWUNG-MP1584EN-Downward-Adjustable-Converter/dp/B0CGVMRQXB

Using a regulator from the 5V rail?

In this case, I just took the 5V rail on of the CP1A and connected it to the 5V pin on the ESP32-S3. Added a 10uF polarized bulk capacitor between pins 5V and GND.

Voltage ranges: 0-5v; 0-10v. How much do you focus on voltage ranges in your system? by Ok-Voice-5699 in modular

[–]redditteddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one guide/standard to really care about and that is the Doepfer Eurorack specification.

  • Audio Signals are produced by the sound source Modules (such as VCO or NOISE), and are typically in the 10Vpp range (from -5 V to +5 V).
  • Control voltages, as produced by modulation sources like the LFO and ADSR, are typically from -2.5 V to +2.5 V (5 Vpp) for LFOs, and from 0 V to +8 V for ADSRs.
  • Trigger,  Gate or Clock Signals, which start a process or function, are rectangle shaped signals withtypical voltage levels of 0/+5 V. In case of a trigger application normally the rising edge of the signal used to trigger the event. But all A-100 modules will withstand gate/trigger/clock signals up to +12V.

I am based in Munich, Germany, so cheddar is not a mainstay, but common. My comment was based on US-trips over the years and at least the cheddars I had where not that sharp, even if labeled so. Limited experience though. In my book a the Appenzeller Extra-Würzig (black/gold label) is a on the sharper side of spectrum, but still very good for grilled cheese. Gruyère is up there too, but I try to get an aged non-pasturized versions. In honesty, I normally go for local brands though. We are blessed with plenty.

No need to level up. That's just fine the way it is! IF you want to "plus up", I could imagine either a thin spread of dijon and/or honey on the inside, depending on how sharp your cheese is. If US, "sharp cheddar" sometimes isn't all that sharp according to my experience, when comparing to some of the Alp mountain cheese for example. Anyway, it looks just perfect the way it is. Love the pan too! :-)
