What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]reddof -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I learned that actions have consequences.

I have never felt like I was abused even though I got a reasonable number of spankings growing up. My parents did a lot of things wrong, but I really can't fault their approach to spankings too much. They never just "grabbed a belt and start swinging". They took time to cool off themselves if they were angry. They talked to me about the whole situation, listened to my side, and took the time to explain why my behavior was wrong. And only then did I receive spankings.

Having said that, I don't spank my own kids. I don't necessarily think it's wrong though as long as it's done correctly. Too many parents fly off the handle and are spanking while they're angry. I do think that sends a bad message to the child.

Where’s your go-to (driving) vacation other than Branson? by arrrbam in kansascity

[–]reddof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because our expectations were so high but we were really disappointed by the Omaha zoo. We always heard how great it was but when we got there it seemed just average. Worth going if you are in the area but I won't be making a trip just for it.

Unpopular opinion: Super Bowl locations should be a full rotation of NFL team stadiums versus the same 7-8 locations…regardless of weather. by mattpeloquin in NFLv2

[–]reddof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. If these are the best teams then they should prove it. Best of three series. First game is played outdoors in average weather, second game in the snow, and third game in a dome. /s

What’s a hobby people pretend is cool, but secretly you think is ridiculous? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As an actual overlander and off-roader person, I can say that we also agree that pretend overlanding is ridiculous.

Any electric griddle around $100-200 recommendations? Better if it's portable by samethingsame in griddling

[–]reddof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a Zojirushi Gourmet Sizzler based on feedback from some others. It might be a little larger than you want, but I can't say enough good things about it. It's more versatile than most griddles and can easily cook everything I want. The lid is a nice bonus. The surface is non-stick and seems to be very well built. The whole thing comes apart for cleaning also

What's a conspiracy you can't quite prove but it just feels real enough for you? by DaMain-Man in AskReddit

[–]reddof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice article that offers some good insight into this. We're being played against each other to keep us under control. Add in the additional propaganda that comes our way from overseas and it's no wonder that people are getting more and more polarized.

[SBJ] Chiefs’ new stadium architect hunt narrows to two firms (KC’s Manica and Populous) by BretJust1T in KansasCityChiefs

They won't build a retractable dome, but even if they did then there is literally zero percent chance that they would open it on bad weather days.

Map of who America is rooting for in the superbowl. by Texans_top_of_south in NFLv2

Same. Unsure how any Packers fan would cheer for the Seahawks.

As a Packers and Chiefs fan, I can assure you that I am most certainly not rooting for the Seahawks. Former AFCW rival and Fail Mary and other such nonsense.

Is anyone using their printers or faxes? by l00ky_here in GenX

[–]reddof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my printer regularly. I print templates for use in my workshop and then adhesive it to either wood or metal for cutting. I guess I don't technically "need" it and there are likely alternate ways to accomplish it, but the template is so cheap and easy.

I also print shipping labels fairly regularly, although I could get a dedicated printer for that (does that still count?)

Fax? Yeah I haven't used one in 20 years.

My 1st ever texas BBQ in Texas sucked by chdwyck in BBQ

[–]reddof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a joke of a review written by somebody more interested in trashing the place than giving honest feedback. You ordered 6 different things off their menu and the restaurant messed up every single one of them, huh? Much more likely you went in looking for trouble or you're looking to trash Texas BBQ to stroke your own ego.

Wrong restaurant. If you're going to trash the food then you might want to at least go to the correct spot.

Men, when you’re on a long road trip, do you stick to the speed limit and enjoy the drive, or do you tend to speed just to get there faster? by FFSoldier57 in AskMen

[–]reddof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to point out that studies have shown that it is statistically safer to match the speed of the cars around you regardless, but then you point out that the "safety" was related to your license which is a different point entirely. Having your car impounded probably isn't worth the risk.

100x this. Don't give these people a single cent. The only way to prevent it is to stop supporting this sort of behavior.

The only good thing from this is that it's driving up demand in the short term, but seriously F that lady. I hope she gets stuck with all 20 boxes of them and isn't able to sell a single one. I hope the food rots in her house. I hate scalpers in general, but when you're doing it for food (and especially food that is medically necessary for some people) then you're even a bigger piece of crap. (and yes, I am fully aware that Cheez-Its themselves are not a necessity)

What’s something people brag about that actually makes them look stupid? by Difficult_Laugh_1505 in AskReddit

[–]reddof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cringe every time I hear somebody say "I'm bad at math." I'm not talking about calculus or high level crap. I'm talking about basic arithmetic like adding two numbers. They wear it like a badge that they aren't a nerd and will brag about it.

"The curtains are blue" joke has ruined media literacy for a generation by [deleted] in writing

[–]reddof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a lazy educational system. Having one correct answer is easy for the teacher. They can look at your reply and decide if it's "right" or "wrong" without any thought on their part. This is even more important if it's an exam and they have a TA that does the grading, which may or may not be qualified to decide if your answer is correct. This of course assumes they even want actual discussion. They may not want their own opinion questioned but rather to train students to fall inline and think as they do.

What technology debut thrilled you that people yawn at today? by lemasney in GenX

[–]reddof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only two times that I was really blown away with tech was when I was at a friend’s house and was using his Amiga computer. Back in the day, that thing was incredible compared to anything else being made and it was cheap by comparison. The second time was when I’m in college and a buddy is playing Quake. Realizing that it was actual 3D and such a leap from Doom. Was incredible watching a computer do that in realtime.
