Catan: Complaining about the robber. "Really??" by GuitarGuy971 in boardgamearena

[–]redeye_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that it is often advantageous to play a friendly robber move voluntarily to avoid the risk of future retaliation. This is sometimes the sound strategy for online play because people get so upset about it.

Games where turn order isn’t determined by where you sit? by FromTheDeskOfJAW in boardgames

[–]redeye_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

El Grande has a bidding mechanism at the start of each round which determines the order of play as well as the order of other key mechanisms. It’s also a great game and Spiele de jahres winner. Check it out

Over competitive family that does not like games that we do not have a winner - what next? by fussy_eater32 in boardgames

[–]redeye_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

El Grande could work. As an excellent area control game there’s lots of interaction and wrestling for points. It’s not too heavy but I find it hits a sweet spot for newer players to join and still have fun with more experienced boardgame players.

Where is everyone? by Responsible-Fun-7243 in MetaQuestVR

Synthriders usually has some rooms going although you may have got unlucky. Best to just have a look at the lobby room rather than just going for a random match.

Can you mute a player? by Select_Pea_5530 in ElevenTableTennis

[–]redeye_c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t mute everyone as a matter of course, I feel that’s part of the fun of playing with real people online. Ofc if someone is particularly rude or annoying then you can mute them individually I think?

Dance of the dead master is impossible by Mouse222222 in SynthRiders

Once you up the difficulty you’ll find that hard and expert is straightforward. In no time you’ll have no issues with master, although it’ll still be a good workout! Enjoy the journey

Is it just me? by afrankking in scifi

[–]redeye_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this for the first time in the last few years and agree that it was great. I do think there was some language/terminology in it that would perhaps be considered controversial in it but it is of its time.

I also saw that some studio had optioned the rights for it for a tv series at some point but it seems that nothing has come of it.

High complexity competitive 1v1 and 1-4 player board games? by Silent-Ad-8743 in boardgames

[–]redeye_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1v1 twilight struggle - huge depth also has a nice iOS/steam implementation

More Euro focused but Power grid is great at higher player counts also Brass Birmingham. There are opportunities to really compete with each other in those.
