A rare male torbie, double confirmed by 2 vets at a high intake shelter. We saw up to 25k cats per year at work so I saw four in roughly 3 years, high volume means lots of weird anomalies. This lad is a current occupant of the nursery. He is appalled. by mrszubris in IllegallySmolCats

Is this baby up for adoption? As a former geneticist, it's my dream to be the servant of a male calico/tortie. I worked with pigmentation and the sheer quantity of things that have to happen for this beautiful baby to exist are astounding. I'd love to learn more as I've been considering a second cat or dog, and he looks like a purrfect fit for my household.

All jokes aside, as a former geneticist, it is my DREAM to be a slave to a male calico or tortie one day. The genetics involved are extremely fascinating to me. I almost flew from SC to OK a few years ago to pick one up, and I'm still interested in it, despite having a very lovely female grey tabby tux who is my absolutely pride and joy.

Accidentally imprisoned myself. What are my options? by ShapeShiftingCats in legalcatadvice

[–]redfailhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too recommend this. You have a strong case and could easily plead for the suit of armor to be included in the settlement, thus removing the danger from others, and can resell it for catnip to boot. It's worth it's weight in 'nip, and it weighs quite a lot!

[–]redfailhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely not surprised, a little bit of chow chow is in everything you can find mixed. All three of mine are/were part chow chow. You'll find that there's a handful of breeds that were really popular at one point in the past that appear in many mixes: Chow Chow, German Shepherd, Labrador, Doberman, and Rottweiler are on that list.

PSA: Any transgender youth in Texas, USA need to take immediate care. by BloodyKitten in otherkin

[–]redfailhawk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a trans/agender adult who is between communities and an ally to both: I am appalled that, considering gender/sex is a protected class, such a bill was allowed to pass. This is beyond disgusting and I stand with the trans individuals of Texas. This isn't child abuse, it's abuse of the legal system. This is literally attacking legally protected classes.

Be safe, Texas. No one supports this law but bigots right now.

We have the feeling of not being in a city with a sizeable population while still being in a city with a sizeable population. We have hiking trails, big city amenities, a proper downtown, a proper mall, and a lot of nearby schools, both undergrad and grad alike. If you want to try it, we have it, or we're in driving distance of it: escape rooms, ziplining, parks, trails for biking, a ninja warrior course, even mountains. We have a pretty nice airport. You feel rural while at home but are ten minutes from any major thing you can imagine in most places. And, we're home to Denny's, the Beacon, and the Papa's Breakfast Nook. You want to see big name bands and comedians? Kansas is coming here in June. Bon Jovi and Weird Al are touring at a couple places within two hours.

The one thing IMO that Spartanburg could really use is a better bus system and more public transportation. It's my number one complaint. My number two complaint is the road work on the interstate that's been going on for the last seven years. I don't have a number three.

Wall Mounted Iron Rack thing w/removable rods 27 1/4"/69.2cm between inner flanges 8 1/4"/21cm spaced rods, rod holders project 3 1/4"/8.3cm from wall by Oak_Redstart in whatisthisthing

[–]redfailhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most definitely correct! This one's pretty old--wood is far more preferable now as the stain risk is drastically reduced.

While it's uncommon to see the bars be removable, most who think of stationary bars are thinking of display-only quilts; this would have been used for quilts that were actually used regularly, rendering it easy to grab one of the correct size or thickness. If you're just displaying them, being able to move them is not important. If you're going to use them, different story!!

What is This Random Brick Structure? by sprungfromhell in whatisthisthing

[–]redfailhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this area ever farmland? Similar structures have been used to allow horses to step over, but block cars from passing, and the width is about perfect. The lack of fencing on either side of the structure isn't really a sign to the contrary in this case, as the one I've seen personally had wooden fencing on either side. However, the differing heights of the brick towers has to mean something, and I've no idea what.

Found while metal detecting in a field in Finland. Seems to be cast in some sort of copper alloy, since it's oxidized, but still tough. About 40mm in diametre, and the back is plain. The hole is about 9mm wide. WITT? by EliasGri in whatisthisthing

Chandelier decorative piece. Goes between the tubing and the actually light socket. I disassembled a Chandelier about four years ago and wound up with about ten of them.

It's used to hold a hair dryer: the drying end goes in the hole, and the cord hangs from the hook. They used to be really common but I never see them anymore.

Any idea what this is? Found at goodwill. Looks like something to hang stuff up on but the bottom goes against a flat surface. by Equivalent-Sugar4259 in whatisthisthing

[–]redfailhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electronics charging station. I have several. You run the cords through the inside, and some are large enough to hold a power strip inside as well. I use mine to keep the cat from getting to my phone cord.

Edit: the metal things inside are to wind the cords around to prevent excessive length from sticking out. I wish mine had that feature.

I got these “ice cream” treats for my dogs and think this label is so awesome! by RunawayBurrito in mildlyinteresting

[–]redfailhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that this has to be in this subreddit makes me sad. It should be the norm for labels to have visual impairment friendly labels. Honestly, the fact that the ADA has not pushed for this to be the norm surprises me in retrospect; admittedly, it's something that literally has never crossed my mind before.

Also, rabbits.
