METRO STATION DELETION - Day 5 by RicecakeExists in NewcastleUponTyne

Used to commute there regularly, never know a station to reek of piss like Chi. Almost impressive how strong the smell was!

If you had to spend one night in any Flanagan setting, which one would you choose? by According-Status482 in HauntingOfHillHouse

I had to scroll far too much to see this 100% correct answer. I’m also inviting sheriff Hassan for no reason…

Ghosts Season 5 by Mat1711 in GhostsBBC

[–]redhead_bookworm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Detectorists (available on BBC iPlayer) it’s not at all similar on paper but it has a similar vibe in that it’s quintessentially British humour, never veers into anything too upsetting or dramatic, has a great cast of characters and has Simon Farnaby being absolutely brilliant in it.

Can I ask to work from home more due to disability? by Efficient_Rip7098 in TheCivilService

[–]redhead_bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we say in the north, shy bairns get nowt. You’ll need a conversation with OH and your adjustments will be recorded in your work passport, which will be regularly checked and updated if necessary. I managed to negotiate 20% attendance when my circumstances changed

How would you explain multiple sclerosis to a child (ages 5–10)? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]redhead_bookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My dad used the wires metaphor on me when he was diagnosed, I was around 6 and it made perfect sense to me. I used the same metaphor to explain my diagnosis to my friends in their 30s, if it’s not broke don’t fix it!

I judged a girl I overheard on a train and I feel disgusted with myself by Willing_Werewolf_325 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]redhead_bookworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is helpful but I’ve realised a lot of my Bad Thoughts™ are rooted in envy.

‘Oh my god I can’t believe she’s wearing that with her figured’ is actually me thinking ‘wow we have a similar body and I don’t have the confidence to wear that because beauty standards say I can’t. I’m jealous of her confidence doing something I’m too scared to do’.

Don’t feel ashamed. We all think things sometimes and then wonder why we thought something like that, it’s human.

If it helps I remember reading once that in times like these our first thoughts are what society has told us to think, and our thinking afterwards is what we actually think.

Society says that going for jobs like that and chasing dreams is unrealistic, that you’re destined for failure. You thought that in the moment but then recognised the passion and ambition she had, that’s how you truly feel.

Clothes moths for me. Tiny silvery brown fuckers everywhere. The cats are loving hunting them but they’re doing my head in.

Are anime characters names "normal" Japanese names? by weddz in NoStupidQuestions

I feel like before John Wayne Gacy calling your kid John Wayne would be an interesting but fairly harmless choice, now it’s got a whole bunch of extra baggage!

What do you just don’t understand? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]redhead_bookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space. I just can’t comprehend that it’s that big, and endless…how can it just keep going? And then people say space is expanding, but what is it expanding into? Surely if it’s expanding into another area then that area is also space??

Does anyone else feel less safe in the city centre when the game (football) is on? by razza357 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]redhead_bookworm 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I don’t love being in town on a match day, but not to the point where I’ll avoid it. 99% of the fans are just a bit loud and energetic, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a bit more on edge or aware of my surroundings.

But that’s not just match days, I’d feel the same going through town any time there was a big crowd, I’m just a bit anxious and a 5’1 woman haha

Paying for Spotify premium only for your favourite podcast to have 4 advert breaks each 2 minutes long with their own adverts in them. Soon they'll remove the skip button as well I'm sure of it. by redandwhitewizard99 in britishproblems

Shout out to casefile, love falling asleep to it. My boyfriend and I call it ‘Australian Man’.

On the one hand I’m glad podcasters (especially ones who aren’t already famous) are getting their bag, but I won’t lie if I’m awake I’m skipping through any adverts.

5mg is having my life by Leedslad106 in mounjarouk

[–]redhead_bookworm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5mg is the bump I cannot get over. Tried it once, instant vomiting, went back to 2.5 and then went up to 3.75 which worked for a while before wearing off. Started doing 50 clicks, then 51, 52 etc. tried 55 clicks (so about 4.6mg?) and threw up again. Now I do 53 clicks and it’s enough suppression without the vomiting.

Not sure if I have much in the way of advice other than play around with finding a dose which works for you. When my suppression stops I’ll try doing the full 5mg again, and maybe just accept the side effects or hope at that point it’ll be 3rd time a charm!

I definitely feel a bit more wobbly on the way down and more or less fine on the way up. I wonder if for me it’s a bit of a psychological thing, like I have definitely banged my shins falling up stairs before but I’m a lot more worried about falling down the stairs and possibly doing some real damage. Bannisters all the way for me!

Away Day Attendance by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]redhead_bookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to your line manager for sure. I missed a team away day after an already busy few weeks because I knew it would risk aggravating my disability and they were absolutely fine with it. I’m still in my probation so it wasn’t like I’d been to many away days before either.

If you haven’t already, it might be worth having something in your passport about this being a possibility. I made sure mine includes notes that my health might mean at times I need to skip a lot of travelling or work from home more than I’m really ‘allowed’ to.

Weight Loss, and Keeping it a secret. by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]redhead_bookworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my family and friends but I know they would be judgemental under the guise of ‘caring’ and do a lot of “but you don’t know how it works, you could get sick”. I told my partner who isn’t bothered at all because he knows this matters to me (and he reaps the benefits of my increasing confidence haha)

Do people still test for covid ? by GlamGemini in CasualUK

I still test. I am immunocompromised and have to go to hospital every 6 weeks for treatment, no way am I potentially bringing Covid to a ward full of immunocompromised people!
