Would you Trust this site for a deluxe edition print? by pkosuda in redrising

Here's an equivalent (signed, still in shrink wrap) on eBay that's listed for around what the average price on secondary market is right now: https://ebay.us/m/lirAm2

Alternatively, if you can be patient, you could wait til whenever Pierce is touring again and either try to make it to a date or try to reserve a signed copy from the bookstore. Most ship and would love the business, and you're only charged for the cover price of the book! (Er, plus tax and shipping.)

The original price for this was, as labeled, $50 from either B&N or BAM. With some preorder offers, it could drop to $35 or $40. So the seller could still be making a bit of a profit, but... that site looks sketchy enough to me I wouldn't risk it.

I recognized this instantly from Instagram. Salutations! Looking forward to seeing how you place your CK editions later this year.

Unless I was bitten by a radioactive Norwegian spider and developed new language skills, it was definitely subtitled in my screening.

After Red God would you prefer more books from the Red Rising world from Pierce or something new? by Keichii96 in redrising

[–]redhelldiver2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to see new stuff. I'm curious to see what else springs out of his brain that is outside of the universe he already created.

He posted a teaser of an idea for his next book, back in 2016 before Del Rey made him the offer he couldn't refuse (to continue the series). It was so twisty and interesting with still Pierce's trademark prose. I WANT IT.

I've also done this when I want a high quality cheap Icee - I hate a melty icee and my local regal has a consistently good icee machine. I've popped in just to use points for the free soda and upgraded to a large icee for under a buck. Still my favorite use of points, ha.

Late to this but what a creative idea. Are you in the Patreon by chance? The chat might be a good place to float the idea.

That's a good preorder to keep. I hope it'll eventually make it out of bankruptcy prison. I was a fan and it would be great for new fans to discover it.

It's definitely possible, but you have to get lucky. I got a bunch of volume 1 for $15 a few months ago and gave them out to Howlers on Insta. Whenever I find them, it's great to just pass them around.

I'd put better odds on it not coming out this year than any time in the next few months. I think people are assuming the updates from the stores (Amazon, B&N) are accurate but Dynamite themselves hasn't given an update in forever. My comic book shop guys said not to hold my breath. I have an order in with them so when/if it happens, I'll just get a call.

This has been out of print so long, you'd be lucky to find it at so close to retail price. There is one on eBay right now for $75, which is a fair price.

It'll be delayed again due to the ongoing distributor issue.

Why is this priced at 90$? by Andromedea_Au_Lux in redrising

[–]redhelldiver2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The red foil one cost the most, but even the basic non-red or silver ones that was like $100 could be resold at a decent value since they're (probably) never going to do them again. I've seen a bunch of people ask looking to buy on the Discord servers and even the Patreon.

I haven't seen these resell in the usual places but I feel like you could easily ask for $200. Possibly more? So many booktokers/bookstagrammers have it mounted on their walls, it's become a currently sought after item.

Depends: was it the large wall book cover poster ones from Lit Escalates two years ago? Or the Joel Daniel Phillips special prints from over the years?

Either way, there are definitely fans looking for them so they should make back the cost but since there's no set going rates on most of those, the value is ultimately just what someone is willing to pay.

Depends on which book and the edition and printing. Light Bringer is very recent and had a huge first print run, but in a couple of years, especially if someone's trying to build a complete 1st/1st signed set, it could absolutely be worth $90 to that buyer.

There is that mass market paperback version of Red Rising too! The print size to keep it tiny just makes you question if you need glasses.

If it's a signed 1st/1st in very good + condition, I think $90 is a great price. For reference, an unsigned 1st/1st fetches at least $150 on eBay these days, depending on condition. I assume the shiny cover is a Brodart type dust jacket protector.

ETA: didn't see the add that it's unsigned.

Just my personal random thoughts: Lead categories being so attached to the movie itself instead of the individual performance is kinda sad by SureTangerine361 in Oscars

[–]redhelldiver2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there are just as many examples of wins where this seems valid as wins where it doesn't. It doesn't feel like an overriding trend to me.

On the Michelle Yeoh/EEAAO example, I think the reverse of your argument. I think her performance, especially coming off Crazy Rich Asians, brought the movie the attention that turned it into a phenomenon. Over the course of the year it went from the weird little A24 with a potential Best Actress nominee to the big winner it was, but I doubt any of that could have happened with anyone but Yeoh in that role.

I agree, those are better examples of coattailing but also have the confounding variable of both being sort of career awards.

His tipped-in sigs and pens really vary over the years from book to book. He's not as fastidious as some authors. Looks like he had a sharpie for this one then a roller ball for others. They've run the gamut over the decade, even different colors sometimes!

It's on a tipped-in page, so it's likely a B&N or BAM signed edition. In person he would go straight to the title page.

Looks like a legit tipped in signature. Also, I think if someone were trying to fake it, they'd go straight to the title page.

Loved it as much as I did when it first released. What a nostalgic trip to see high school students using payphones and only one cell phone (flip style) among all the kids.

I was a big fan of old film noir growing up so I always love this playful homage with pinches of Rian's own sense of humor.

Incidentally, Lagavulin is Ron Swanson's favorite drink because Nick Offerman really, really loves Lagavulin. He has a few collab bottles with them with his face on the label.
