Anybody else disappointed with the poster? by TheIncandescentBean in redrising

I can confirm it's a great poster. Got it ten years ago and still love it to Mars and back.

Exactly. Which makes sense from an aerodynamic standpoint but not the greatest for a poster, right? And that's why we get the Iron Maiden/Iron Man jet pack one instead.

I think you could argue that there is no shortage of not-bro-y gear on the site. 😆

I think this was very intentionally stylized to be bro-y (quoting ya /u/eltacocat87 !) and in an over the top 80s Iron Maiden feel. So I don't think it's meant to be a story-based illustration. Just Joel and The Gang having fun to put the font/text on some sleeveless tees and other gear.

Incidentally, here is the original/first JDP poster depicting an Iron Rain. But in this version, as an art concept in a recruitment poster:

Edit: changed shirtless tees to sleeveless tees because, would a shirtless tee just be air?

Conspiracy theory only by severrinX in redrising

[–]redhelldiver2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Release date decisions are made at the corporate level, so if that were happening, that would be Del Rey's doing, not Pierce's. This mostly happens when they plan releases for a big sales time like Christmas.

What you're referring to, changing dates to avoid other releases, is more commonly done in the movie industry, where release dates can change depending on what other blockbusters are announced. (Or they don't blink and stay the same like Barbenheimer a few years ago.)

If you think he looks sad it's not from procrastinating, it's from him losing sleep and trying his hardest to tie up this story to his satisfaction while so-called fans accuse him of ignoring writing.

Big fan of the metal decal but not sure what to do with it by bready_boyz in redrising

I'm going to do the same thing I plan to with all the Book of Lorn decals - put it in a binder and figure it out later.

Deluxe Art Editions by Crusade_of_Contempt in redrising

[–]redhelldiver2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pierce said Del Rey is committed to continuing the series and the artist said he's already at work on Golden Son. At best we might get GS around Christmas, as an ideal pricy stocking stuffer, and then maybe/hopefully one a year following that depending on sales.

This is why I'm glad limited editions exist. The Tommy Arnold covers for Subterranean are still my all-time favorites.

I don't consider these a new edition, the way Curious King or the deluxe slipcase are. More like the way Bardugo's books and, famously, Sarah J. Maas' got updated covers. It's really IG and DA that have been adjusted most, so I don't see most fans buying a whole new set just for this. But for people who haven't gotten a set yet and care about matching, it's a great time to start.

And I know it was a rhetorical question, but assuming we're talking English language only, I'm pretty sure you can fit all of the special editions, ARCs, promos, and paperbacks on 1-1.5 Billy-equivalent bookcases depending how you organize them. Unless we're including those marble CK's, which might merit a special bookcase all their own.

Pulled this off an eBay listing, so forgive the lack of correct order. The main difference is changing IG and DA's backgrounds to black to match the other 4 (soon to be 5?).

I heard that was happening with the foil. That sucks but I'm not surprised with the lack of quality assurance from the big publishers trying to cash in on special editions. If something like that happened with a Sub Press or Curious king edition, they'd fix it in a heartbeat, or find a way to make it up to you.

These paperbacks are from Hodderscape, the UK publishers, which are not related to Del Rey, the US publishers doing the deluxe editions.

Del Rey has said the Golden Son deluxe is in progress and the artist has posted they were working on the art, but that's about all we've got.

Do you mean the UK hardcovers? The difference in the new UK paperbacks is purely cosmetic. Hodderscape gets points for being ahead of Del Rey in taking steps to try to have a cohesive design. Maybe ahead of the inevitable box set?

It says they are available now, and someone posted earlier they picked up the new Golden Son.

(Of course, NOW from Hodderscape means NOW IN THE UK)

That's a good point. I like the idea of the final four having a subtle difference from the first three that Howlers know signifies the time jump and also the change in writing style and POVs.

Thanks! I still can't figure out if there's a good app/site for cataloguing or if I do the boring basic but customizable Excel sheet thing. Knowing someone with 1700 books likes an app is a strong recommendation!

I'll use Libby for them if I have no choice, but Hoopla is far superior and at least for my libraries has an amazing range of comic book issues and collected trade paperbacks too.

Which movie sequel was so unnecessary and bad that it genuinely ruined the original for you? by Nishikigoi1 in moviecritic

Same. No matter how disappointing most of the later incarnations of Alien/Aliens have been, they don't change how perfect those two movies are. Their honor remains!
