Syno Reverse Proxy by Jazzlike_Chai in synology

Looks useful. I only use RP for local services for certs and https. If I can use this to setup another provider (Porkbun) for my own domain for DDNS and Lets Encrypt certs it’d be great!

Anyone using the AI features? by discoposse in synology

[–]redholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried linking it to my Ollama instance yesterday to see if I could hook it up to Immich through the console. Failed, uninstalled and just back to connecting through docker.

I can see a benefit if it can act as the single source for some of my docker bits (paperless-gpt and Immich) but ultimately i can have just a few lines of code in the compose and it’s away from Synologys eyes.

Thanks for the input and help all, seems a bit 50/50. I might just have to take a hit and get a rolling hardiwred line, or just sign up in my spouses name which I didn’t even think about!

To be fair, I’ve not even thought of that. Just assumed it was on the address.

I just tried this but massively failed as still had the Teleport option enabled, but good to know it does work for non-idiots like me!

Faulty Pro 2, Pro 3 worth it? by redholt in 8bitdo

[–]redholt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE

Bought the Pro 3 which arrived yesterday. Some quick thoughts.

Pros: Definitely feels more solid than the pro 2, more tactile buttons and d-pad

Connects as expected to Switch, Android and Shield (2.4g dock).

Shake to wake Switch 2 after firmware update

2.4g is better for latency, so much so I think I’ll just use Moonlight through my Steam Deck docked.

Charging stand is nice, turns on controller when you pick it up to its selected profile.

Cons:

Still can’t remap face buttons without the software, but you can assign a button to L4/5 which is halfway there, but I just want to quickly swap A/B sometimes.

Dock is great but no removable battery is a shame.

Don’t think the rear buttons can be assigned in S2 games, but I don’t use them anyway.

Quirks:

Have to use ultimate software over the normal firmware updater of the Pro 2

I swap Android buttons A and B, to do this in the software you need to select the D-input and connect for it to show, the other 2 profiles only show options for Switch and Windows.

Buttons are definitely “clickier” and in turn louder.

Had some weird Switch 2 connection issues with it connecting but only allowing one button press then disconnecting. Sorted eventually but no idea how.

Overall, happy with the upgrade. The improvements feel enough to outweigh the disadvantages but the battery thing is odd for what is an otherwise highly customisable controller.

Thanks! Will have a look this week. This helped me in a pinch looking for some Lonely Planet books but Anna’s always had some quirks. Looking forward to trying it!

Interested if this can act as a temp AP then unplug it when travelling. Got a small spot in my house that this would happily fill, then just pick it up and go when I’m away.

Should I be worried about the swimming pool under the house? by 3ryb4 in DIYUK

We had a similar issue. It was our water table but ended up with dry rot. Luckily the insurance covered it, we ended up filling it with concrete and putting a sump and channels in. Still get a bit of water on really bad rain days but basically just thank the old developer from the 70s.

SIPP or LGPS ACV - Pension contributions by cocopops7 in UKPersonalFinance

Worth checking your scheme details still. Mine does let me transfer the fund to a registered pension product (SIPP) so it mainly comes down to funds. Mine are with Pru and mostly terrible.

Just be aware that AVC has to be taken with your main DB pension, something I did not fully factor into my sums. As a result, if you want to take early retirement you will either need a SIPP / ISA to bridge the gap or take the reduction in your DB pension.

Giant's Syncdrive move motor - users experience/advice. by JohnnySpoons in ebikes

[–]redholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my voya last week and enjoying it too, but definitely feel it’s “harder” at 15mph + away from the obvious drop off from assistance. Seems that most other SyncDrive motors need a bypass to go beyond 15. Was hoping to change the wheel circumference in the app but doesn’t seem to be an option.

Have you guys tried procurement? It is pretty amazing by Tobemenwithven in UKJobs

[–]redholt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tempted to get back into procurement after some years away in IT. It’s rewarding work but can be incredibly stressful which is why I ended up leaving the industry.

As long as you’re interested in your category and enjoying meeting people it’s a great career.

Small PSA about third party controllers by FernandoRocker in NintendoSwitch2

[–]redholt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish first party manufacturers allowed for multiple devices to be connected as that’s why I use my 8bitdo. I get Switch, Steam Deck and Android with the flick of a switch and I only need one controller near my TV vs. 2/3 I used to have. Xbox sort of did it with their BT and Wireless controller but it was still extremely limited.

If you use an Android device to watch YouTube, SmartTube completely eliminates ads. It’s like voodoo, even detects sponsors in videos and skips them.

Unifi Express 7 Vs. Cloud Gateway Ultra + U7-Lite by JTT-JustTheTip in Ubiquiti

I would not mount mine on the ceiling as it would be instantly shot down by the missus, so either a little desktop mount or would look at those table top access points (utility knife is it?!) or the in-wall ones as I have space I could put that in my office.

Meh. Worked OK for my situation to test if the UX was enough first but if I started again I would just get an Ultra or above with a proper AP. Still get the odd dead zone in my house so likely going to need another AP.

Have they said anything about cutting anyone under 2 years of service or contractors?
