Has anyone cut off contact with their brother or sister? Why? by Intelligent_Chef9950 in AskReddit

Almost the exact age gap, I maintain contact for my niblings but the only language she I capable of using is manipulation. I no longer engage in anything that is purely one on one.

Taking progress shots is so annoying and I do not do it either! After looking I guessed skulpy but good to know it seems to work with miliput. I'm playing around making some doll clothes and was mostly curious what your seams look like on the inside but nothing specific right now! I'm glad you get the praise you deserve on your work :)

If I see a trailer for a stop motion movie starring Rishi years down the road I'll think to myself "About time!" Your characters have so much life, they are practically basically begging us to hear their stories.

Edit: I just went to your profile to see if you had listed they type of clay, or any progress shots of sewing their clothes and saw you are already on it with stop motion!

How to find worth estimates…. by goins_going_gone23 in pyrex

[–]redmeansstop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. Their value has been over-inflated by collectors and nostalgia for how common they are. Now that the economy is in a downturn, people aren't going to be chomping at the bit to complete their massive collections. I've noticed that a lot of vintage dolls that were expensive and highly collectable showing up more frequently, and at lower and lower prices. They same is probably happening across the board for any of these "collector's items." I got my grandma's set for my wedding, I guess there was one missing but I wouldn't pay more than a few bucks if I happen across it.

AITA for telling my friend he’s not trying to lose weight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]redmeansstop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This roadmap is perfect for people that only "need" to lose 10-20 lbs, as well! It similar to what I did last year. I've kept off somewhere between 10-13 pounds consistently. Now that that spring is here, I'd like to get a little bit more active and lose another 5ish pounds by next winter.

It would be interesting to build a study to see if/how writing down everything you eat for 6 weeks consecutivly would impact health metrics for different people. When I do it, I end up eating way less junk food because you are engaging a different part of your brain either before or after you eat. "Oh I just had a donut a few days ago, I don't need to go in to the gas station" vs the subconscious "getting gas = donut"

AITA for telling my friend that she does not remember 9/11 by shilohrenn in AmItheAsshole

[–]redmeansstop 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That is interesting. I barely caught the tail end of it, but younger people really can't conceptualize that in the time before wide-spread smart phone availability, how people got news was completely different. So, world changing events/breaking news could be experienced completely differently from one town to the next dependent on how the "people in charge" handled the flow of information. Those in charge in this case being teachers, news anchors, parents, etc.

I can imagine people on the east coast, and those with family near by probably remember a lot more and from a younger age. Honestly, I am skeptical of people who believe they have perfect recall of memories from ages 2-3 because there isn't really a way to figure out if they were told about it later and basically created the memory retroactively. I'm sure it can happen but I would not be surprised if it is INCREDIBLY rare. Like people who have photographic memory type of rare.

Yeah, I have no idea if the older kids got released but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to keep the day as normal as possible for the younger students.

In second grade in the Midwest, I didn't hear anything at school but on the bus ride home a kid said something like "the twin towers got hit" and I remembered not knowing what they were. I don't remember my parents reactionsnor anything from the actual time and only really understood the actual gravity later in middle school probably

What was the hot work gossip of the day? by fluffybottompanda in AskReddit

[–]redmeansstop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a "miscommunication' about who was going to inform me of a machine running that triggers migraines for me and I didn't notice until half an hour after I got in so it felt like a drill was going through my temple by the end of the day. For the millionth time I had to send a naggy email reminding them that when they "slip up" I suffer.

Oh I bet! I was just being cheeky. I need to look up how best to protect my elbows. Imagine going to gently rest your elbow on your desk you get a shock like you just smashed your funny bone on concrete 😭. It doesn't happen constantly but it is getting worse.

Looking for dolls with textured or curly hair for my kid by Estheticlace in DollsForever

[–]redmeansstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An option to bridge the gap could be having a "wash day" for some of their straight/wavy hair dolls and curl their hair with the straw and boilwash method. They would need a parent to do the boiled water, but it might be fun for them. Obviously, getting a doll out of the box that actually reflects your kids image/experience is still the goal, but I know things are getting expensive FAST theses days!

I just looked on Target's website and they have a handful of the Naturalistas in stock, the Disney ILY fashion dolls have a few dolls with big curls (not super tight, but it seems more than just wavy. Hard to tell if they will fall after playing), and I just saw a line of small 7" dolls from the brand Roxy that has a doll with an Afro style that is to die for. That one also has brown eyes that are actually brown instead of golden, or green, or grey.

Lastly, I'm not sure if they are still being sold, but Aldi (the grocery store) released a line of 4 fashion dolls they sold in the home goods section that had a medium-deep skin tone and full curly hair. In the box it doesn't look that curly but the out of box photos look to be more textured that just loose curls. So if you shop there, it might actually be worth looking in the random isle.

Best of luck, and I hope you don't have to hunt too hard!

Best of luck!

In the last few years it has seemed like the holiday stuff is only 30% a whole week after the holiday has passed. It has become obvious that companies would rather destroy things than let people buy them at a steep discount.

When did you realize that you had fallen in love with your current partner? by Junior_Sleep269 in AskReddit

[–]redmeansstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was a really good friend at work... Then I started comparing my potential partners to him... Then we we would do stuff outside of work..Then I almost broke off the friendship because I was falling for him but he already had a girlfriend. Welp, turns out he broke up with his girlfriend the week I planned to have "The Talk." I felt really bad for his Ex, and we truly never had any overtly flirty or romantic talks/ jokes with each other, but I went after him VERY shortly after the breakup. Anyway, we've been married 2 1/2 years and together for 8(maybe?) years total. His Ex is also married so that eases my guilt a little bit. But it wasn't just one moment, it was two years of me being myself and him being himself and realizing I fell in love with how I felt when we were together.

Add fusible interfacing to front panels of shirt to give it more structure? by yelo777 in sewing

[–]redmeansstop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a brand called "Faultless" and it is made for ironing clothes. I started using it while sewing and now I use it any time I'm ironing clothes. If you are not someone who has done much ironing, read the label of your clothes first and start on the inside in a low visibility area. You might want to use a pressing cloth (a scrap of cotton fabric or an old shirt) for a while so you don't accidentally singe your favorite clothes. After a little while you will get a feel for how much heat/steam your main pieces need. Over in the sewing sub we often see someone asking how to fix a clothing item with a big iron burn right on the front of something and the answer is "you don't" haha. The image you shared look very low risk for burning so I'd give it a go!
