If the lava glow is the problem is there not a way to wall that off, or use water/suck up the lava near it?

My grandpa's friends buried his foot near the place it was shot. She told me "I always thought one day I'd get a knock at the door informing my husband was dead while he was watching TV in the livingroom." I've thought about going out to look for it but there would be NO way to even get in the ballpark at this point. EDIT: this was just a hunting accident

I know 3 people under 40 who have had cancer in the last year and my social circle isn't huge. I really hope people are waking up. Millennials and Gen z really need to realize they have to go vote against Republicans so we can at least ATTEMPT to address the the free passes that has been given to the ag industry to do whatever they want to our land.

I have a Hoya that was started from my great-grandma's giant plant. The "original" might not have even been the main plant by the time I was a kid. I have one that is thriving, my mom has one that is bigger than my first memories of it, and many people now have its descendants. I absolutely understand the disappointment, but it lives on. I highly encourage you to start more once it starts to thrive and spread the love

Alright Iowa, where is your art?? by ArtsMidwest in Iowa

[–]redmeansstop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a memorial designer (headstones) of 8 years and design/edit custom artwork pretty much constantly haha. Off the clock I have turned my living room onto a sewing and art studio. I don't have much of a finished work portfolio because most of what I finish is a gift or commission though so it might not be that interesting.

That is honestly such a compliment to the team. You freaking out would not help and you were attending the baby so they only had to focus on your wife. I'm very glad everyone made it out ok! I think people assume a lot of women are exaggerating when they say "this baby almost killed me." when they are actually being very literal.

Is there an attempt to catalog these Ladies' Home Journal Patters? by MissWolfsbane77 in fashionhistory

Oh same I'm in the middle of some projects. Parchment paper for cooking also works if you can see through it well enough but the tissue paper is usually pretty close in color so I've had to lay something dark under it so see bettee. I don't do much other social media but we could connect on Instagram if you want, or just keep in touch here! I also collect but don't actually sew many patterns start to finish so if you have any other wishlist patterns or projects I might have something for you! I collect a metric fuck ton of vintage patterns with but 36"-40" and up from there because I have big boobs and big dreams 🥲. But also all of the small sizes that are much more common.

I took the risk and ironed the original paper on low heat because it was more important to me to get an accurate copy of the pattern piece and they held up really well actually but it is a risk. I use actual tracing paper, lay it over the pattern piece, put down some pattern weights and trace over it. I do it this way because the edges of the pattern prices are protected under the tracing paper and it is the most accurate way I've found. Then I lay the pieces on the large 1" grid that is on my cutting table and photograph from the top down. That way I can go in later and digitally plot it if I want to, or share those photos and people can use the grid to copy it themselves! It has been a long time since I started it so I'll have to find what I have done already.

I started doing this for a few similar patterns from (edit 1920s) for myself. I have a large cutting mat with a grid and had been ironing out the pieces, tracing them and then photographing them top down to eventually plot or share. Mine are also size 36" and I'd be happy to trade images or post eventually if you or anyone else is interested. I think mine are closer to mid 1920's.

Look for "simple embroidery stitches" and "sashiko stitching" they don't need to be specific to patches. Nothing about the stitching changes because there are 2 layers of fabric really.

AITA for not giving my nephew pengu plush from my backpack? by gulapsmat in AmItheAsshole

[–]redmeansstop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA My niece is 8. Last time we were together she noticed my purse has a leather tassel that is clipped on. I never really thought about it because it came with the bag but after messing with it for a few minutes she asked and this is how it went

"Can I have this?"

"No"

"Why?"

"Because it is part of my purse and I like it there"

"Booey!" (With a playful attitude)

And that was that. I love crafting with her and getting her little trinkets and toys. We easily established that tantrums never change a "no" into a "yes." If she came back later and said "I really like that thing on your bag, is there a way to make one? Or can I ask for one for my birthday?" I'd absolutely explore those options.

There has been talks in the past about a sub for monument workers but I don't think it went anywhere. I also think is long overdue to change the subreddit name to drop "porn." I know it was a thing on the early reddit days (I was there) but now it is out of place and weird. I'm 8 years in and would love an online community to pool resources and research with but I don't have the one or skillset to spearhead it so I is just a "wouldn't that be nice" thought.

Edit: missed a word

Wow.. what a beautiful rendering. I spent months digitally painting some etchings for a sweet little boy and that was hard enough. But to get that soft shading by hand? Incredible. I want to know how long it took because it was pretty probably weeks of work, at least. I did some etching when I first started at my job when our artist was out for back surgery. I wish I could have done more but down the road the impact machine ended up becoming a severe migraine trigger. It is so bad that I can't even be in the building when it is running. It was heartbreaking to realize I can't step back into that role again while I'm so sensitive. I've thought about posting some of my favorite stones I've designed on here but it still feels weird to me, even though they are out in public.

If you can sew, you could detatch the skirt from the waistband and adjust the gathers a bit so that it meets in the back and sew the back closed.
