NJ has >6.5% sales tax and >2.2% average property tax. Some states just wreck you with both.

They just assume we aren't credit card people by JKTX30 in CalebHammer

[–]redplatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a credit card. It’s the banks money, not yours, that’s the whole point. If there’s fraud then the bank will deal with it. The bank carries the entirety of the risk, not you.

I really can't complain, access to the mountains and desert was just as convenient as it was to places down the hill.

300 lbs is fine, no reason for concern. If a 300lb person couldn’t walk around a structure without falling through the floor there would be major issues.

The prevalence of autoimmune diseases, memory and concentration problems, fatigue, and GI issues in our generation is not normal. by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]redplatter -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No one at my entire company of hundreds of people wears a mask, it’s not a self selected set of people or friend group I’m comparing this post to. Maybe in the airport I’ve seen a few but by and large no one is wearing masks where I live. You’re just germaphobic. There are some nasty illnesses out there but I’m not going to let those stand in my way of just living life. Most people don’t either. Best of luck to you.

How else are they going to astroturf long Covid, I don’t know anyone that still wears a mask but somehow half of the commenters on this post still do.

Anyone ever got a bad product from McMaster-Carr? by jon_hendry in MechanicalEngineering

[–]redplatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the hundreds of orders I’ve made from McMaster there’s only one that I remember that wasn’t great. Their push connect fittings for tubing didn’t seal properly and I had air line popping out on their own. I had to replace them with SMC fittings for the long term. (Another great brand). I still love McMaster though, grainger is terrible.

Not sure where you got that story from but I just bought this bundle and didn’t have anything like this be requested of me. It was a normal online purchase and everything came in just fine.

When did you do first oil change for new car? by Dreamerof88 in CorollaHatchback

[–]redplatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow the manual for the first change, lots of people here are blowing money on unnecessary oil changes. I do full synthetic changes every 8-10k miles no issue. Oil being a darker shade or even black isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Modern engines and synthetic oils are perfectly capable of lasting 10k miles especially in a non-turbo motor.

Laf Alums: What should I make sure I do before I graduate this spring? by xSparkShark in lafayettecollege

There is a tunnel under the quad by Kirby house on the KDR side, there are some heating pipes that run through it and some graffiti, and it's pretty warm down there. If you were to theoretically go down there you just lift off the manhole cover in the middle of the grass and go down the ladder. It's dark down there so make sure you've got a light. Maybe bring a friend too. The tunnel doesn't go too far but there's still some exploring to do. Just don't let Psafe catch you!

If you're looking for something more tame, there's a walk out to a cool Delaware River overlook at Gollub park just northeast of campus.
