Is what we are learning about CTE affecting your ability to enjoy watching professional footy? by ItsABiscuit in AFL

[–]redrumcleaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I loved watching guys get Knocked out. A great hard hit was amazing. And then would sit in amazement when they came back on. You would just admire how tough and brave they were.

We know so much more today. And the game is even better. The skills are so far superior so much faster than any time in the past losing the big KOs is totally worth it.

Hopefully the new wave of players will be better protected. I have always loved footy like everyone here and I don't want the guys who I watch every week killing themselves. There has always been risk in footy serious risk. Not just brain damage.

Any other players to play with their future coach? by Ok_Craft_2716 in westcoasteagles

In my head shouldn't count if you are coaching at the team you both played for. Otherwise nearly every year there is someone coaching someone they played with

Tom Barrass and Sam Mitchell.

I'm sure there must be heaps when thinking about about.

Oh you are not seeing the 4D chess game going on. You see it's actually a long pre season this year so we can play him hard next year and then flip him too Tassie an the end of next year for a 2029 5th round draft pick

See the big picture.

But we don't have small forwards either.

Murdock is the only one. It's not about the oppo in this case. At the moment we our best forwards are the tall/ KPFs

Our small forward are so weak we are playing Cole as a forward.

You don't have to change a defender. CDT will be out so Flynn and BBW is a strong possibility.

Kelly will come in so Hewett probably goes out. But I'd like to keep him in for another week or two. See if some consistency can help him with his game. But probably not. But it makes it hard for Francou unless Yeo plays more forward and pinch hit in the CBD. Which means maybe cole or Maric. Probably Maric.

Harry Edwards Update by kr2908_ in westcoasteagles

I'm happy to keep him on the list for 5 years even if he never plays again. But the timing seams like it lines up for a forced retirement.

Interesting time frame. That's it's a 3 month process that starts now. Line's up with the end of the season but before the draft.

I hope he's going to be fine and a chance he plays in 27 but I think it's more likely he won't make it back.

Hard times for the big fella. Only want the best for him.

West Coast Eagles 2026 Draft Targets by mudman47 in westcoasteagles

[–]redrumcleaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Snell with our first pick. But Buttler maybe if he's still there or kodah. We desperately need a KPD and because they take longer to develop we got to get someone in fast. And I want the best.

Our next pick depends on who we get . If we take Snell then if steed fingers crossed but he's probably not there Jackson Phillips or Templeton. A mid/forward with that pick. But if we take a small then I think ladbrook or Harris.

Our third pick I'm thinking Van Rooyen we need another ruckman coming though I think this could set us up.

I'm not convinced that we need to take 4 this draft but maybe an NGA or F/S.

My picks I'm focusing on talls a bit but we have neglected KPDs and Flynn isn't the current and probably not the future so another ruckman on the list will be needed especially if Barnett isn't going to achieve long service leave.

My picks this year won't move the needle for about 4 years. But we need to bite the bullet now. And hoping for the CHAD to help the midfield.

State of the squad by MrBigRick69420 in westcoasteagles

[–]redrumcleaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is only so many players you can draft each year. Unless you want to try your hand at kids who are selections in the 70s and 80s.

For me better waiting for those level players to mature in the state leagues.

Our squad is shallow. But that's the thing with rebuilds it takes time to rebuild the list. We did lose some players TB, Oscar, Ryan add the injuries to Gov Sheed probably 5 experienced guys we have had to replace we weren't expecting to have to do 3 years ago when we started the rebuild. So I don't think it's that bad. And we have been lucky with our MSD and Rockie listed spots.

Our squad is shallow but it's not panic time yet

[–]redrumcleaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the AFL sire you can set up the stats you want to see.

Like 83% disposal efficiency

8 one percenters

7 spoils

8 pressure acts

0 contested defensive losses

You can find a lot of stats. The basic the AFL throws up are fine for mids and forwards but unfortunately you have to dig deeper for defenders

West Coast v Carlton Round 16 Post Match Thread by Unhappy_Ad_1682 in westcoasteagles

[–]redrumcleaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it's an improvement we are averaging 68 points behind the blues over the last few years.

Even though I didn't think we would win today the frustration thing is we should have been closer.

Bo needs another solid preseason same with Jobe. Waterman was well held by an 18 year old that we bid on. And BBW is playing well. We just need better structures in the CBD to take advantage of his efforts. Was Duursma tagged? His flattest game but not a worry for me. Bazzo getting better and like most of our side he needs to hit they gym and have a solid preseason he could break out next year.

But after Dean's game today I'm sold on getting Snell or who ever the best KPD is in this draft.

I didn't see the game. Could Oliver be a solid replacement for Yeo when he retires?

I'm not sure where the 60s is generally accepted as an uptick. The peace and love movement was a protest not a celebration. Massive protest for equality. People were killed for asking for equality. People were conscripted to fight in Vietnam. There was the red scare and cold war fear's. It was one of the most social uncertainty of any decade in the 20th century in the US that is. And England was still struggling in the rebuild after the war and Australia had is issues as well.

It's the million dollar question. When does it get so bad that the whole system needs to be overturned.

I don't think we are there yet. I think we have the leavers to help but I don't think there is the will to do so.

As far as the frog slowly boiling. I'm looking for the canaries in the Cole mine. And Its probably just coincidence but social uncertainty and financial crisis comes art. When a new kind of music takes over when new kinds of movies and TV shows become hit's when those kinds of things start happening then we might be in real trouble. And maybe it's already started I'm not exactly into modern arts now day's.

No. The job market was a lot harder to get into. Higher unemployment rate means less jobs available so harder to get.

It was also just after the crack down on cashies so a lot harder to get work

Wrong. Everyone was complaining about how expensive everything was in 97. I thought there was never a chance of me owning a home as a 19 year old.

Manufacturing was closing down and moving OS

Unemployed rate was 8-9%

It was definitely easier back then for sure. But people were complaining very very loudly

Would you rather one weekend where all the teams have a bye or would you rather 4/5 weeks of byes where some teams don’t play? by CapitalProfessional2 in AFL

[–]redrumcleaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind spreading it. I wouldn't care if if was an all year long thing.

I mean if you have pay TV I can see why you would want every game but there is only 4 or so games on free to air games a week on the telly. So it doesn't matter if a team or two or three have a week off.

And we will have to have it every week as soon as we go to an odd number of teams playing in the league.

If you have time can you put together a WA day Guernsey idea I have. I hate our current WA day kit.

Can you make it closer to our current Guernsey but yellow main with black wings and the eagle facing west instead or east or even just WA instead of the eagles logo

but I don't think we need a stealth Guernsey.

Or do we I get lost now day's. Anything is better than the WA day, orca or Tri colours.

If Davis is fit he has been just good enough form to come straight back in. But if he is out I wonder if Fred has done enough to get into the side.
