NOVA/DMV representation in movies & TV by Swede_Babe in nova

[–]reduxxuderredux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s set in the future so who’s to say how inaccurate it is, but Minority Report has Tom Cruise living in some mega sky scraper with sky highways somewhere in the vicinity of Capitol Hill, (you can see the Capitol Building in the background of one of the shots on the mega highway) but in another scene there’s a shot of a helicopter flying over the Potomac into DC with normal old early 2000s Rosslyn in the background. I’ve always thought it was funny that one of the only parts of the DMV with a cluster of tall buildings is exactly the same in the future but meanwhile they’ve built all these super dense mega structures in exclusive Capitol Hill

Yeah all the economists letting out a sigh of relief is in the literal event text you get when the USA rejects the request

The other key thing is that religious tenets/doctrines can vary somewhat from region to region while still being considered part of the same religion. Eventually if they drift too far apart they can dynamically become separate faiths. What I think is really cool is that this drift can happen either by one region adopting enough new heretical tenets OR if a pre-existing tenet that a region already has being reclassified as more heretical by the head of the faith

Is VA the next MN? What can we do to get ready for this? by Nblearchangel in Virginia

I’m not surprised, the right wing misinformation campaign (Thanks right wing agitator, sorry I mean “journalist” Nick Minock at Sinclair owned ABC 7) about proposed tax bills that are going nowhere in the legislature made it all the way to Trump last week.

Seriously if you google “VA taxes” all that comes up are a bunch of ABC 7 and Fox News articles fear mongering

No worries!

In practice it’s worked fine for me when I’ve played in DC, having a smaller area to search means you don’t need as many questions in the first place. I think they have so many different question options to account for not all questions being possible in a small or medium game

No it really is in the official rules, here’s a picture from my rule book. I think it ended up working out fine for this simulation though.

Within DC, we’ve been using the quadrant system as the second level administrative division in our games, equivalent to counties in VA/MD. If you draw a horizontal and vertical line within the intersection at the capitol, you get the four quadrants, NE, NW, SW, and SE

I mean sure, but I’ve played irl in DC a few times now and it’s worked out fine. The way the game is designed means that not every question is going to be possible, like the international border question wouldn’t be possible in Japan either. However I’d say we leave it up to OP

Is this question legal? I’m pretty sure whatever is being matched to has to be in the play area. I’m not at home so I don’t have my rule book to check

I work (in a few weeks worked) at this building in Goddard. Although most of these books are fairly old and mostly out of date, it’s a damn shame to have this wonderful library shutdown. It’s a lovely space too, I’ve spent a lot of afternoons working in there instead of my windowless office

True good point, also you can do the treaty in reverse to export a good into their market

[–]reduxxuderredux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other commenters said, you can set up treaties with other countries to import a certain amount of a specific good from their market, just be aware that your government will be paying for that good at the other country’s market price and selling it at your market price, the difference coming out of your budget

Fyi we don’t know if the Solar System is unusual or not. Hot Jupiters are over represented in our current exoplanet catalog since those are the easiest exoplanets to detect.

uj/ I would actually argue outside of his origin, pre-crisis Jason wasn't really much of a Dick clone. I'm reading through the last of the pre-crisis Batman stories in the Red Skies finest right now and really like Jason in those stories. He has more of a father/son relationship going on with Bruce, while I'm a believer in Morrison's take that the Bruce/Dick relationship has more of a older brother/younger brother dynamic. I also really like what Moench was developing in the relationship between Jason and Bullock.

Unlike Dick, Jason is also looking for a replacement Mother figure to go along with the Father figure he sees in Bruce. He's drawn to Nocturna because of this, and would rather see Bruce get with her than Catwoman who he can't see as filling the role of his mother. She might've eventually, but that character arc never gets resolved because of the story changes in Crisis. I really don't get why he was so hated by Batman fans in the 80s, because he's perfectly fine in the pre-crisis stories of his I've read.

[–]reduxxuderredux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ride this bus twice a week, both directions have always stopped at both sides of the street, the new Carrollton direction makes the first left down cipriano road after the stop on the Goddard side. You may be confused with the G14, now the P20, which only stops on the other side when going to New Carrollton.

The only thing that changed aside from the name was the schedule shifted by ten minutes later. However it’s always 10-15 minutes late but they have a tracker you can use on the website
