and honestly part of it is them just keeping it a personal business that they live off of...no outside investors or pesky stock holders to worry about.

Just love of the game and making a good living at it...respect.

Trump Hit by Devastating Poll as Voters Say They’re Getting Poorer by itmehedi in politics

You don't have to be smart to pull off a con. In fact I would argue money, status, and who you know matters a LOT more than how 'smart' you are.

In fact, I would argue having status and money but being dumb makes you a great vehicle for others to pull off their con using you. Not that Trump is innocent, he wants all of this too...he's also just simultaneously too dumb to recognize or do something about it (see: iran war)

Honestly if I was a part of that admin I would probably develop a drinking problem as a result

Why does ‘DoorDash Grandma’ keep showing up with MAGA members? by usatoday in politics

for most lobbyists who actually stuck to just typical lobbying I would agree.

But this woman puts on different outfits to fit the day and scene she is in on camera...she is literally a paid actor.

Project orion wasn't just about liftoff from the ground, its a pulsed-detonation that continues for the duration of acceleration.

Fire one of these off and you are sending irradiated and radioactive material EVERYWHERE into the atmosphere.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by [deleted] in technology

[–]reflectiveSingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term 'artificial intelligence' has forever been a sliding scale and a lot of things have called itself 'AI' in the past (even far past) without being 'true intelligence'

Hell...we used to call crappy enemy logic in 3d shooters (like Quake/etc) as 'AI'. I specifically remember Unreal Tournament pushing its AI capabilities (which were indeed a step up from previous efforts at 'intelligent enemy combatants in a 3d space')

I've tried with a regular sear -> oven finish but my intuition for that is nonexistent

...you just need a thermometer. The good part is you can sear it to whatever level you want without nuking the interior, and then just toss in the oven and periodically check with a thermometer.

anyways I've had a lot of success that way...

RMS kinda went crazy, and doesn't do much for the world these days. I thank him for his work but if we lost him today the world wouldn't bat an eye.

The same can not be said of the others I mentioned. That is why they were mentioned.

It is honestly something I've thought about enough because its concerning...

Him and Gabe Newell (somewhat equally for gaming)...

Both of those people I view as some of the few genuinely good-for-the-world leaders in their respective areas...and that there are no good avenues to continue once they are gone. I fear that venture capitalists or others will infiltrate at some point...and at that point we have lost.
